Best gaming moments

Staying up till 4 in the morning on Guild Wars When I was 16 to Join my guild in Taking the Hall of Hero's and holding it for two hours. The conversations in between battles were amazing.

Installing it on Friday evening straight after school and then looking out of the window and realising the sun was coming up, it is now dawn on Saturday and you didn't even notice!

For me it has to be FFVII - the whole game. I was never into a game as much as that one before or since, just completely immersed in the storyline. I'd spend all day at school fantasizing over what might happen next, I'd get home at 4, play til midnight, then back up at 5 to play until I had to leave for school again at 8.30: that went on for about 4 months! I still play back through it now about once a year, just a truly fantastic game.

Full Throttle for the PC. I loved that game. The initial cutscene with the Gone Jackals song playing over it was awesome. If you've never heard of it, go find it and buy it, it's a cult classic that's relatively unknown.

What are your best gaming moments? The bits in a game (playable not cutscene) where you just think WOW!

 

In 'modern' times, firing rockets from the towers in the first Command & Conquer game! Aside from that, probably Quake, as I'd never seen anything quite like the 3D graphics before. Before that, I was thoroughly impressed by Monkey Island!

 

I keep telling SWMBO that I'm going to get an Xbox for Black Ops... she subtlely points a finger at the Wii we've had for a couple of years which sits at the side of the telly, unused.... oh well.

Multiplayer mode in the first Medal of Honor game. Best multiplayer FPS ever! The maps where just right for some good action. Especially the map with the central church, trying to hold the bell tower with a snippers rifle while your mights launch rockets at you...

 

Driving two Austin Martin DB9's in a head on collision at the Nurberg Ring in another XBox 360 driving game (name escapes me EDIT: It was Forza Motorsport)

Ah yes, I remember crossfire now. Sadly missed a lot of the online DM action of HL, as I was big into CS at the time (but never any good at it!)

not a moment as such, but Quake done Quick was simply amazing. watching these guys go through the hardest of levels in a matter of seconds was awesome.

that said, i think the first rocket jump in quake for me was great. being able to do that just added a whole new twist to online play.

To be honest, I only ever once tried to play Syndicate but my PC wouldn't load it. I wasn't savvy enough to work it out at the time. So my only experience was Syndicate Wars, which I loved.

When you first step out onto Hyrule Field in Ocarina of Time

When you first become Adult Link in Ocarina of Time

 

When you climb down the rope out of Midgar and step out onto the world map for the first time in Final Fantasy 7

Aerith's death cut-scene (the stabby one and the one where Cloud puts her in the water)

 

Playing the "Golden Gun" mode on GoldenEye on the N64

 

The SNES Mario Kart, spent months of my life on that thing when I was a kid!

 

The first chainsaw battle you get into Gears of War 2, such an awesome addition to the game

 

Everything in Mirror's Edge and Portal

Quake 3 CTF: my gaming group got to gather "fragLANd" for a weekend.. playing some Q3 CTF i got the RailGun, i was doing a bit of sniper work on the red team and i just happen to be sat between to red team members when i lined up for a head shot on the flag runner, fired and a spit secon later "on the left hand side was the flag runner and on the right was his cover and the flag runner was in front of him." the flag runner exploded was spectacular on both sides. you had to be there to see it.. them where the days.. red bull, crisp and curry is all you need for a weekend.

Personally, thrashing the pants of the UK's best Quake 2 player in a duel on my favourite map with twice the ping. I wasn't particularly great at the game but just had one of those matches where everything fell right.

 

Otherwise, when I went out and bought Carmageddon: Max Pack along with a 3DFX card. Days were wasted. I grew a liking of hard rock/metal music.

Another racer, Motorhead. Seeing that in its 3D (although basic) glory and its trance beats - absolutely loved it. Played from start to finish and still have the finishing credits music in my mp3 collection

Half Life - All of them. Absolutely love the series and was hooked right from that tram ride.

C&C Red Alert... 4v4 multiplayer on 56k dial up... awesome!

 

Diablo 2 clan matches 4v4... also really good

 

Then Counter Strike @ various LANs getting beat... was still good fun though

The first big game I played after Half-Life was Unreal - I totally love the Unreal series - and it was when I had my first 3D card (a Voodoo Gfx card).

 

I loaded Unreal and was simply stunned at the menu screen with the 3D fly-by of the Unreal castle! Not cutting edge now, but at the time, I was INSTANTLY hooked! The reflections in the shiny paths, the burning torches, I loved it!

 

Then, about 30 mins in to the game and your in a mine and walk down a corridor and a barrier comes down and traps you in. They one at a time, the lights turn off. Your in pitch black darkness then red warning lights flash and you get jumped by a Skaarj! I s**t myself! I just loved the game for being so atmospheric!

 

Oh, and when you battle your first Titan in game and it's about 30 times your size!!!

 

1 more thing, first game I played with a death match mode against bots!

I agree alot of Half-life was memorable especially that opening train ride.

I used to just love the ps2 james bond games.

 

One of the first games I played was The incredible machine, a game in which you had a series of items you linked togeather to create some sort of pointless rungolberg device, oh hours of fun! Max payne was the first 3rd person game I played and that was very impressive when it came out (still fun today)

The Incredible Machine reminds me of Gary's Mod for HL2 - I also wasted hours and hours building random, pointless stuff in it! Good fun though.

 

This also reminds me about this mod I had for Gary's Mod (can't remember what it was called) but basically you spawn in a massive flat open map with unlimited guns and ammo boxes all around you, along with a big switch. You start by building a fort/strong hold with the grav gun around your ammo supplies, and when you think your safe, turn the switch and loads of HL2 nasties spawn all around the edge of the map and work their way towards you, and you have to survive as long as possible.

Many hours of my life disappeared to playing Blackhawk Down online, only stopped after breaking a leg on holiday, meaning I couldnt actually get to my PC for 4 months. Once I could get back to playing, I had lost the need.

Age of empires 2 on zone.com - some epic custom games!

 

Or, Age of empires 2 with 2 people in the same room, building a massive army, assembling on the battlefield and then removing your alliances and watching the lagfest war that followed! (longbowmen > all)
