I have Artiseer, V4.* which I purchased ages ago (and have just kept upgrading) for Joomla. I've never used it since! :-( But for the design aspect, certainly worth it!

I'm getting started with Wordpress - have a hosting provider (CS New Media) who uses an 'auto install' solution (but will progress, I hope, to manually installing it!). I use CS New Media for a small commercial web site I support, and as they give you 2 domains with the package I'm on, I thought it was a good idea to utilise such for practise I'm looking for free tutorials which will teach me Wordpress. Unfortunately, most of the Google searches return paid for tuition! Does anyone have any good, free resources that can help me please? The aim is to become proficient enough in Wordpress to be able to support users in updating department web sites, adding content, and so on.

We use the Ubiquiti system around this site, and have circa 60 AP's dotted all over. The ability to have 4 x SSID's on separate VLAN's is pretty neat. I am just in the throws of setting up the built in Hotspot facility so that one of our SSID's is going to be available via a voucher system for any guest visitors we have on site. We have had some issues when the controller software on the server wouldn't start, but a bit of head scratching and recording the MAC addresses of each of the AP's has sorted that out should it ever happen again! Overall, very pleased, but I don't have any experience of other 'professional' systems for comparison.

At which point I realise I should have mentioned that I am running a client XP machine (SP3) and trying to open DNS and AD via MMC on the client. From what I can see via a Google search, Remote Server Administration Tools aren't available for XP Feeling clueless...

My boss gets a bit fidgety because I log into a server to open/view DNS. He wants me to use MMC instead. I have no clue, can someone advise? The server is called EC-DNS1 (this is the server I normally log into and then access DNS off the START menu). I can run MMC on my local machine, but at that point I am clueless as to what I need to do next. Help!

User RDP's into a machine, selects pictures in folder, preview, then runs slideshow. There is a batch file that they then run when quitting that calls TSMON.EXE However, this method actually stops the slideshow from running, and the screen in actual fact goes back to just a single picture in the previewer. Any suggestions?

Yeah, did do, and the last hop is "vl192.ar8.bllon.isp.sky.com [89.200.133.96]" before it times out, which doesn't tell me a lot, but was hoping for a geeky web page with lots of bars, graphs and dials on it!

We had an Internet outage at work earlier today, and our provider told us there was a mass outage at one of the London Data Centre's. I have no reason to disbelieve them, but is there any way I, as an ordinary member of the public, can check network statuses of various data centres? I'm accessing the Internet from home via my own ISP (Sky/Easynet) now, but I understand the office is still affected; they have a commercial 100MB line through Griffin Internet as I understand. Just be interesting to actually see various ISP/backbone provider statuses on one page.

We have a Onelan NTB650 and NTB650M The 650 is the publisher and the 650M is the subscriber. 2 screens are running off each. With that configuration, is it possible to have 2 screens displaying one layout design and info, whilst the other 2 display something entirely different? If so, before my colleague's stress levels reach 'something will get smashed up in a minute' levels, is their an easy guide on how to achieve this anywhere?

That'd be one way, I guess, but I can't see how to do that on the switches in question, Cisco SG2xx series, if at all. Another factor is that the technician in question doesn't have (and I'm not going to give them) administrator access to the switches, so they can't log into them and make any changes. You obviously didn't know that prior to your suggestion 'cos I never told you! Ideally, this is a 'look see' exercise to see what goes to where as opposed to administration of switches.

Thanks guys - helpful info, especially as the technician at the remote site already has one of the Test-Um kits! Shame he doesn't yet know how to use it... Following on from that though, is there such a freeware utility such as I described that will do this sort of thing? It'd be damn useful to have installed on my technician laptop!

I currently use a Fluke tester for much of my day to day network diagnostics, but at roughly £1000 a piece, a 2nd one for a technician at a remote site isn't about to happen any time soon... So, on the Fluke I do have, there is the facility to make a network switch port 'flash' in such a way so you can tell which data node goes to which port on the switch. I simply plug the Fluke into a node, set the correct mode on the Fluke, and the port on the switch 'flashes' (differently to how they normally flash with data so it's easy to recognise which port is being polled). Great for mapping rooms where no prior knowledge of what goes where is known! I am looking for a freeware software utility to run under Windows XP/7 that may be able to do the same; something the 2nd technician can run on a laptop. They could plug the laptop into the node, run the software, and it will flash the LED lights in such a way so they can see which port their node terminates at on the switch. Hope that makes sense? Any ideas?

We have some APC UPS's running 24×7 which power a bunch of servers running Server 2008 R2. Each UPS only has the option for one USB cable to be connected to a device, but there is more than one device being powered on each UPS. This means, as far as I can tell, only one device can be shut down by the UPS in the event of a power failure. We could purchase additional expansion cards and go down the network management route, however we didn’t really want to pay hundreds of pounds just for this privilege. We'd need 11 of these things, at an approx cost of £170 each... I've Googled this problem, and see it has real potential to be done, but I'm afraid I'm not into scripting by any means, so much of it is over my head. The aim is obviously to get the UPS to shut down the directly connected machine in the event of a power failure, but for the machine shutting down to also send out a command (batch file?) to other servers instructing them to shut down as well. Can anyone point me to a working model of this sort of set up, or help in putting something together? Thanks in advance.

My scenario? Basic desk at work, but have fluorescent ceiling lighting which is just over-powering. I'd like to know what other folks use, and have found best suited.

The negative rep was not from me. I have something to say, I do it via a direct reply or to your face.

I'm not suggesting the rep given was unfair (each is entitled to his/her own opinion), but if someone has something to say to me, I'd prefer it was said out in the open rather than in some pusillanimous manner. The rep system is widely abused on this forum and has been a bone of contention on more than one occasion.

Totally agree. I can't help noting that those who are apparently in favour of lax safety of the roads rarely have any sort of argument to justify it other than "I know my limits". As I understand it, given that overtaking stationery vehicles is prohibited on zig-zags, bikers 'filtering' could be seen in the same view; whatever the case, certainly passing the lead vehicle on a zig-zagged area leading up to a crossing is a definite no-no. It is this arrogance demonstrated by 'can do' bikers at the expense of road safety in general that I question.
