[ms office - 2010] Word GPO - disabling check spelling as you type
theeldergeek replied to capncrunch's topic in Office Software
Can't help you much more than I already have tried to unfortunately, or even investigate solutions from this end as we have a completely different desktop delivery to our client machines than you do, so I can't even begin to replicate the problem. I'll keep looking, but it sounds as if you have explored most avenues anyway. -

Blimey, you haven't been let loose in AD have you?!? Which version of Office, 2010? -
In 'modern' times, firing rockets from the towers in the first Command & Conquer game! Aside from that, probably Quake, as I'd never seen anything quite like the 3D graphics before. Before that, I was thoroughly impressed by Monkey Island! I keep telling SWMBO that I'm going to get an Xbox for Black Ops... she subtlely points a finger at the Wii we've had for a couple of years which sits at the side of the telly, unused.... oh well.

Just wondered how many others have to work Saturday's? I work in a private school, and have to do 1 in 4 Saturday mornings, which I actually don't mind too much, as it means I get 2 half days per week! Although, it does make it a long week when I am on Feel sorry for the students who have to have lessons on a Saturday though, they should be watching "Swap Shop" on Saturday morning TV! *for those of you under 40, Swap Shop

Are you using Workgroup Manager, if so, have you allowed these applications through Workgroup Manager?

More expensive to print to an inkjet than a laser, I'm sure.

Only tried AR as installing additional software here is a bit of a 'hike' due to our managed desktops environment. However, it did work using my unmanaged desktop which is also AR. Suspect the issue potentially lies somewhere in the Powerfuse desktop.

Our Exams Officer is having a problem printing PDF's that I just cannot answer. What happens is, she has to go to the AQA website and open several series of PDF's, roughly 4 in each series, but directly from the site*, not opened, saved as etc etc. She can then print, say the first 3 in the series once they've each opened, but the last one will only ever print 2 pages and then causes her printer to error. This happens on every series of PDF's she is opening; it's always the last file that will not print. It also isn't the same file in each of the series; each series has it's own set of files. The first few print, but it is always the last one that will not. Her printer is a local HP1350 USB, but we also tried printing to a mahoosive network Ricoh in the Bursary, with the same problem! She logged onto my machine as me, logged into the AQA web site as her, and printed all her PDF's to my very old networked HP without issue! She also got onto AQA technical 'sport, and they were able to log in as her, and print the files that wouldn't print to their own printer. That, in my opinion rules out the files as being a problem. It has to be something on her machine that is causing the problem, but what? Why can she print 3 of 4 (for example), but not complete the 4th? Anyone? *Rules are that they are not allowed to 'download' the PDF's per se (even though it is probably cached somewhere locally anyway!) so I can't get hold of the file to test it independently on different machines.

How much to "charge" for printer installation?

You don't then? -
We use RES Powerfuse here. Not without its problems, but it is a brilliant way to manage users. I'm still on a steep learning curve as I've only been here a couple of weeks, so don't ask me any questions on it just yet!

How far do you travel to work, how long does it take?
theeldergeek replied to jonny_2010's topic in Educational IT Jobs
I used to have a 35 mile round trip which would usually take me 30 mins each way, save any accidents, traffic jams etc. Recently changed jobs, and now I'm about 4 miles away which is about 9 minutes drive, at least thus far, that is the longest it has taken me! Bliss! -
Unable to do that. My network connection is locked down tighter than a tight thing, so I can't download anything. I'm new here, so don't yet quite know how things tick. Might be the school policy to have such restrictions in place, or just my access through the firewall needs configuring. Not entirely sure yet.

I don't know if it is our Sophos firewall, or something else, but I can't seem to get a list of the forums when on the main forum page. The page shows everything but the forum list. If I go to "new posts" or something like that, I can see lists of new posts, and this is how I got to this forum. I suspect it is due to ads being blocked, as there is reference to Yahoo below - this is the error detail (I get the "page completed with errors" in the bottom left hand corner of IE) Webpage error details User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; InfoPath.2; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E) Timestamp: Wed, 8 Sep 2010 13:12:04 UTC Message: 'YAHOO.plugin.Dispatcher' is null or not an object Line: 80 Char: 39 Code: 0 URI: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/ Is it likely to be our firewall, and if so, what am I looking to get unblocked?
