enjay Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Next week for all the schools round here, except my wife's one which has a two week half term - was not impressed to be heading out into the dark and rain this morning while she still lay snoozing! Will probably take most if not all of next week off. Not much to do during this holiday, so I generally take it off and save the working days for Easter hols and July when I can get more done.

One of only about 13 weeks of the year that I can actually get proper work done without kids/staff around to interupt! BTW, I noticed you work for a Uni. I remember from my uni days that half term was called 'reading week' and I seem to recall most semester lasting no more than 8 weeks total. What is it, 1 month off over christmas, 1 month for easter and 2 over the summer, plus reading weeks. I think I was away from uni more than there!

What is it, 1 month off over christmas, 1 month for easter and 2 over the summer, plus reading weeks. I think I was away from uni more than there! No such thing as reading weeks (officially) here. Induction week was 22/09, with teaching starting the week after. 12 weeks of teaching, 3 weeks off at Christmas, then another 12 weeks of teaching, then 3 weeks off for Easter. Then 3 weeks of exams, a couple of weeks of hanging around waiting for exams to be marked, then resits and that's the beginning of July when the students officially finish. In reality many will have disappeared after the first lot of exams.
