Many thanks for everything you have done for Edugeek over the years, the time and effort given to get edugeek as far as it has come has been phenomenal.

Enjoy the break - no doubt you'll still lend a hand now and again :D

Good luck to you Tony - No eulogy better than a superbly pulled off BETT!

Your voice of reality & reason, helping us to think outside of our own techie confines, and see the bigger education picture - is a big reason I think EduGeek has been such the success it has.

You will be missed as EduAdmin, but very glad you're staying around!

Let me start with little story...

Before the name Edugeek.net became the bane of my life. I was over at an education forum and I saw post from a guy called who was spouting some rubbish about technical staff having to be accountable and that we had to think about teaching and learning (to be fair don’t think we were using that phrase at time but you get the drift). Anyway my first thought was who is this guy has he ever worked in a school closed my browser in disgust.

The Problem was the next few weeks’ lot of things started to change my thinking and at each time my thoughts came back to that post. I lurked on the forum and watched unfolding debate between this guy called Tony and other members of the forum.

Edugeek.net was created (was it in 7 days), I joined and look who should be there but this Tony. Since that first post Tony has pushed my thinking ever time it would be understatement to say that in great words of CJ “I didn't get where I am without Tony Sheppard.”

Like many I owe lot to Tony not only for his hard work on edugeek.net but also the knowledge, experience and influence has had over my career.

As I said to Tony at BETT as always it has been a pleasure.

Russ

p.s

It is first time Tony has heard that story.

p.p.s

This was material that I was going to use for his Obituary so please Tony don’t go and meet the great geek in sky until I have thought of some more material. ;)

I'd say good luck but I think you've actually totally gone over to the Dark Side now :p and even a half-hearted Jedi warrior is better than being a Sith :p

But thanks for all the help and effort you've put into this place over the years and remember there's always a green light-sabre waiting for you, if you return :-)

regards

Just to add to the thanks above...

Your "stop and think" approach to administration has been very useful to me both on here professionally as well as helped me with other sites where I'm the guy in the hotseat. Useful example most of the time and definitely be interesting to see how things pan out without you.

Best of luck...

Argh! You'd better still post your like you do now. Edugeek wouldn't be the same without your insightful, thought out posts!

As an admin, you've been superb, so I hope you come back at some point in the future!

I look forward to being able to sit back and heckle, even coming down off the fence.

Ah, now we get to know what you really think. Sorry, got a book of quotes for Christmas, this one comes to mind (from, seemingly, Mike from the Young Ones - it was a cheap book of quotes, you understand):

"A social conscience is like a garden fence, you try to eat it, it'll get stuck in your throat."

I say we should all chip in for a retirement present for Tony. With his love for champagne truffles I'm sure something like a Tasting Club Gift Membership from Hotel Chocolat would make a great gift.

The likeness is uncanny, even down to the bald head. (Pot calling kettle..)

To echo the above: It's been a huge learning experience Tony. You'll be sorely missed as admin. Thanks for your support and friendship so far. A dream IT boss if ever there was one.
