  4. Morning y'all, anyone come across this error before? Add operation failed. Unable to extract deployment information from the package. Run validation on the package to ensure the package is correct. The GPO cannot be created. It's a recently setup DC, new domain etc. software was deployed when everything was set up no problem, now this is popping up when trying to add any .msi to a gpo. Ta, Ozzy.

  6. Morning all, longtime since I've posted, been that busy working freelance. I've been setting up a new school that has inherited a load of new gear from the middle school that was closed. There is a terastation pro there Which I would like to use for storage. No one has any idea of what the user name or password is, so even using the red button to reset the password I'm still no further with without the user name. Is there a way to reset this? Or is it a case of clean install of the whole box? Any thoughts would be great. Cheers, Ozzy
  7. Hey Guy's, it's been years since I've delt with this sort of stuff. I've been asked by a couple of schools that have ditched the last of their XP machines for 7 if it is possible to move their Vista machines to 7. Could anyone advise as to the best course for this? I doubt that it'll be £13 or £14 per licence as it was in the passed. So just looking at at options for them. An idea of cost per licence, supplier etc. would be just swell. Cheers.
  8. Morning all, I have been doing some work for a local primary school, they have bought some reconditioned vista machines to put in classrooms for the whiteboards. The rest of the school has XP and everything is fine. I have installed Ranger on the Vista clients without any problems, when logging on the user gets their desktop, start menu, mapped drives and printers but it will not load the users profile just getting the standard message that windows could not load you profile and has loaded a temp one. Although the machines are usable it is causing problems with the documents folder redirection and a few other little niggley things. Not being an expert with Ranger by any stretch I have had a look around and found a setting in Windows Ranger> Groups> Staff standard, Pupils etc> settings> Enviroment. There is a place to enter the window profile root. For XP it has where to load it from, however there is nothing in the same place for Vista, and I am unable to enter anything in the box as it is greyed out. Am I missing something simple here? Sorry if this is a boy vague but I'm writing from memory as I left my notes at the school (dumb ass) Any help would be greatly accepted Ozzy
  9. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-vista/97583-windows-update-blocking-internet-access.html Try uninstalling update KB2699988, as per the the above link that I started, the symptoms sound the same and it sorted the problem.
  10. Just if anyone is interested the problem was caused by Internet explorer security update KB2699988, quite common problem so I've read on a few forum's
  11. Got a Vista pro machine that is having problems accessing the Internet via ie9 and firefox after running windows update, defo has an Internet connection and Skype works fine so it must be down to a update, if I restore the machine to a couple of weeks ago the all is fine. I'll have to uninstall all the recent updates one by one till I find the one causing the problem. Before I start has anyone else come across this and if so what update is causing the problem? Ozzy
  12. Newcastle was a complete washout, 5hrs to drive 4 miles, got home to find a new river flowing along the path at the front of our house and the lake at the back had risen by 3ft in a couple of hours. We had a knock at the door from a council official telling us to get packed to leave for the night. It was within 1/2 inch of coming through the from door at the highest point but luckily never got in. It's the end of the world coming I recon. 2012 phenomenon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  13. Having read this thread with intrest I'm looking into a school wide wireless network for a primary school and can't quite believe what is being said about this kit. It looks and sounds great (£1500 for Unifi or £7000 for other makes!!!!). Is there any of the suppliers on edugeek that can get this? if so could you pm me.
  14. Morning to you all, after being out of touch buying hardware for the last couple of years I'm about to start a new project at one of my schools, it's a very small first school with only 6 staff in three classrooms, they want new desktops to use on the whiteboards. They require a small server running server2008 but the budget is only around £1000 for this ( not much I know) can anyone recommend a bit of hardware at this price. It will be nothing more than a DC, DHCP, DNS and print server for 6 win 7 machines. Any ideas would be great. Ozzy

  16. I'm on the Hunt for a graphics card for a my old Powermac G4 AGP model, like a ATI Radeon 9800 PRO Mac Edition AGP 256MB or something like it without paying stupid money from eBay etc. Does anyone have an idea where I might get one from or even have one I could purchase or trade, the computer is in great condition with 2gb memory running OS X Tiger and I would love to continue using it but the original graphics card needs to be updated. Regards Ozzy
  17. Hello everyone, can anyone point me in the direction of a download for Activprimary 3, without having to download the seperate fles from the Prohethean website? any help please. Ozzy
  18. Good afternoon all, on my visit to one of the schools I support today. I found that none of the computers would not connect to the internet. The school has a small peer to peer network so none of these settings are applied by group policy. When I checked the settings the automaticaly detect settings box had been unchecked and use proxy server had been checked, so as you will know internet explorer was looking for a proxy that was'nt there (nothing entered in to the fields for a proxy server). Once I'd changed things back I spoke to the HT and asked if anyone had been in to change anything from the LEA but no. when I rebooted several machines the settings were as the should be after resetting them and connecting fine so I've ruled that out, however Policy central client would not start and was showing a error box on screen. This is installed by the LEA and I have not had a chance to speak to anyone from there re this problem but I have a feeling that there has been some sort of update to this that has screwed things up. Has anyone come accross this before with computers running policy centeral or no for that matter. A thoughts or Ideas would be great. Many thanks, Ozzy
  19. Thanks Tony, I'm going to buy one today so I know soon enough:rolleyes:
  20. I have several apple tv's set up in the house connected to the hifi via fibre optic and tv via hdmi in the rooms to play music around the house, so when only playing music I don't need the tv's on. I would like to extend this to the kitchen, The stereo in the kitchen does not have a fibre connection, I could use another another apple tv connected to the tv in there but I would rather not have the tv on when playing music using the multiple speakers in iTunes or via iPad. So the question is this, if I buy a airport express that has the phono audio connection for a stereo, will this appear in the multiple speakers in iTunes? The same as the apple tv's do. I called in to the apple store in Newcastle today and the sales person was as much use as a chocolate fire guard when I asked him this, even after showing him what I needed to know on his iPad and in iTunes on one of the computers. Have any of you got this setup with both apple tv and airport express or seen it set up like this? Thanks in advance, Ozzy
  21. Just to dig this old one up. Got my ticket for this year with the first batch on sale before Xmas, so what do you guy's think of the line up so far?
  22. I'd be bet that they have the info from your test, do you not have a copy of the slip you got when you passed your test? that isif you still get one. 25 years since I passed mine:( Just a admin error more than likley.
  23. Maybe Microsoft works? you can but that for around £7-8.
  24. This is the local poclicy you need, discovered this worked when I was deploying software over our wireless network. Local Computer policy>Computer Configuration>Addministrative Templates>System>Logon>Always wait for the network at start up and logon. This is a local machine policy if you apply it via AD it will not work.
