Morning y'all, anyone come across this error before? Add operation failed. Unable to extract deployment information from the package. Run validation on the package to ensure the package is correct. The GPO cannot be created. It's a recently setup DC, new domain etc. software was deployed when everything was set up no problem, now this is popping up when trying to add any .msi to a gpo. Ta, Ozzy.

Morning all, longtime since I've posted, been that busy working freelance. I've been setting up a new school that has inherited a load of new gear from the middle school that was closed. There is a terastation pro there Which I would like to use for storage. No one has any idea of what the user name or password is, so even using the red button to reset the password I'm still no further with without the user name. Is there a way to reset this? Or is it a case of clean install of the whole box? Any thoughts would be great. Cheers, Ozzy

Hey Guy's, it's been years since I've delt with this sort of stuff. I've been asked by a couple of schools that have ditched the last of their XP machines for 7 if it is possible to move their Vista machines to 7. Could anyone advise as to the best course for this? I doubt that it'll be £13 or £14 per licence as it was in the passed. So just looking at at options for them. An idea of cost per licence, supplier etc. would be just swell. Cheers.

Morning all, I have been doing some work for a local primary school, they have bought some reconditioned vista machines to put in classrooms for the whiteboards. The rest of the school has XP and everything is fine. I have installed Ranger on the Vista clients without any problems, when logging on the user gets their desktop, start menu, mapped drives and printers but it will not load the users profile just getting the standard message that windows could not load you profile and has loaded a temp one. Although the machines are usable it is causing problems with the documents folder redirection and a few other little niggley things. Not being an expert with Ranger by any stretch I have had a look around and found a setting in Windows Ranger> Groups> Staff standard, Pupils etc> settings> Enviroment. There is a place to enter the window profile root. For XP it has where to load it from, however there is nothing in the same place for Vista, and I am unable to enter anything in the box as it is greyed out. Am I missing something simple here? Sorry if this is a boy vague but I'm writing from memory as I left my notes at the school (dumb ass) Any help would be greatly accepted Ozzy

http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-vista/97583-windows-update-blocking-internet-access.html Try uninstalling update KB2699988, as per the the above link that I started, the symptoms sound the same and it sorted the problem.

Got a Vista pro machine that is having problems accessing the Internet via ie9 and firefox after running windows update, defo has an Internet connection and Skype works fine so it must be down to a update, if I restore the machine to a couple of weeks ago the all is fine. I'll have to uninstall all the recent updates one by one till I find the one causing the problem. Before I start has anyone else come across this and if so what update is causing the problem? Ozzy

Newcastle was a complete washout, 5hrs to drive 4 miles, got home to find a new river flowing along the path at the front of our house and the lake at the back had risen by 3ft in a couple of hours. We had a knock at the door from a council official telling us to get packed to leave for the night. It was within 1/2 inch of coming through the from door at the highest point but luckily never got in. It's the end of the world coming I recon. 2012 phenomenon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morning to you all, after being out of touch buying hardware for the last couple of years I'm about to start a new project at one of my schools, it's a very small first school with only 6 staff in three classrooms, they want new desktops to use on the whiteboards. They require a small server running server2008 but the budget is only around £1000 for this ( not much I know) can anyone recommend a bit of hardware at this price. It will be nothing more than a DC, DHCP, DNS and print server for 6 win 7 machines. Any ideas would be great. Ozzy
