HarryMonkey Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 stevenewman - do you not get time off at all for hospital appointments then? The reason I ask is that' it's never been a problem here thankfully, as I had quite a few visits last year due to eye torubles. I have had some time off this year, however, I have been told that if I want any more time off it will have to be via annual leave or unpaid. The problem lies in the fact it is my wife going to the hospital, not me. and that's where they raise the objection.
teejay Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 School completely shut 23rd - 2nd inclusive, so cannot get in even if I wanted to. As others have said, Xmas is one of the holidays I always take off anyway. After years working in jobs where I only got Christmas Day off I really do like having a proper Christmas break
Zimmer Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Yup I'm working over Christmas unfortunately. Thankfully nothing major to do other than build a few replacement servers and do a spot of DR drilling - All in all it's going to be a nice and relaxing Christmas at the office! Plus this year I'm going to dress my desk up with tinsel and lights even more than I did last year!

Some places are more flexible than others when it comes to it being another members of the family.
Silvor Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Unfortunately, it seems like we don't have much of an option. They are opening the school 22nd - but the rest of the time it will be closed. We either use our holidays or we don't get paid.
IanT Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 are you in during the festive break! I am and its sad im looking forward too it, peace and quiet, get some progressive work done
laserblazer Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Nope, last year I spent most of the holiday installing two new ICT Suites, 8am tomorrow I'm on a flight to Faro (weather permitting)
BJC Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 not me. Don't think the school will even be open after today.
BrianG Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Not me.. all my schools are shut after today
jcollings Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Nope - I figured all my guys had worked so hard this term that we could all be off for the full 2 weeks. School is only open here until 23rd then it's shutdown til 4th Jan anyway.
john Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Were in till the 24th, plenty of work to do, and with today being a snow day thats another days work on top of the usual holiday jobs, blasted weather!
azrael78 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I'm in until 24th. School here doesn't re-open until 4th anyway. I'm the only full-timer except for manglement, so it should be nice and peaceful, get some odd-jobs done that require people to be out of the system... all that sorta stuff. Az
Jamman960 Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Working till the 23rd then return on the 4th, I had planned to take the whole lot off but I've got to be around for our phone system install :/
nicholab Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I got a similar issue I needed to go and take my wife to a couple of hospital appointments one I got as compassionate leave. What ever happened to two become one when you marry someone. I see my wife as being the same as me!! I think it must cost them more having the school open during the holiday then it would to give you some more time off.
sidewinder Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Dont usually come in at all at Xmas, but in next Mon/Tues to do some minor bits, anything major can wait though
witch Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 What ever happened to two become one when you marry someone. I see my wife as being the same as me!! Ahhhhhhhh.Bless

stitch Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Off for the whole fortnight. Roll on the end of the day Have a merry christmas and a happy new year.
leon999uk Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 working up until christmas eve then off until 4th jan
Sirbendy Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I'll be in monday as we're having a total power shutdown and it's the first in here, so we want to be sure the BMS/Servers/UPS/windows/roof/theatre control/AVID suite/AMX come back online afterwards. That apart, I intend to use some holiday (not taken any this year except for 8 days paternity extension) and try to stay off until the 4th to spend it with the missus and my 5 week old. That still leaves me plenty for easter, and some for the 6 week break (which I'll be in for quite a bit anyway).
sparkeh Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Yep in next week. Jobs include: 1) Moving server out of my office and back into cabinet. 2) Upgrading all IWB to latest version of SMART software 3) Updating the inventory 4) Cleaning my office (its a tip) but most importantly: Connecting my Wii up to Hall projector, strapping on my Guitar Hero controller and Rocking Out! 1
