We've just invested in a system from Parago.co.uk, it's a hosted asset management solution and supports barcode and QR codes. We have an app on our iPhones and Andriod phones to manage the system, it's exceptionally good, but it does come at a price... Worth looking into though if your serious about asset management and auditing not just within your IT estate but as an asset/insurance claim system across your entire school.

Sorry it's took me ages to post back @JAB1a, since originally posting on here a couple of months back I've had LOTS of fun with my quadcopter... I've probably been through 20+ props, many crashes, a few arms and many modifications to the setup. However I am now flying it really well, found a nice constant with the MultiWii code with very high PID's for a super tight locked in feeling, flying in Acro mode only I'm finally pulling flips at 40 meters altitude easily with lots of head room for stalling With a 4500mah Zippy I get about 9 minutes of mixed mode flight which I'm very happy with, next on the agenda is FPV kit from FatShark and a TBS Disco frame I've also got lots of build and crash pictures if anyone wants to see them

We use Ops Manager 2012 and also use Cacti for server monitoring. Both work a treat, Ops Manager is a nightmare to get running form the grass roots but its worth the effort in the long ruyn, especially if your using all the Systems Center products as it ties in very nicely with DPM, SCCM and SCOM. Cacti is good for the monitors we have on the wall in our office, lots of pretty graphs etc for people to look and go 'oohhh ahhhh'

How did you copy/move the data? Have the permissions moved correctly? Also, are you using DFS namespaces? If so, are the namespace shares using ABE? Oh one more thing, are your clients using any 'offline files' settings for shares they map to?

Same idea here Chris, we stuck a QNAP TS-1279U-RP (the BIG end of the QNAP range) in our DR site during the summer just gone, we have both its NIC's in a LACP trunk to the SAN switches and we filled it to 24TB. DMP 2012 on a PoweEdge connected both to the SAN and the LAN, so far it's been excellent. We've used EMC iSCSI vaults in the past, we are still using Dell PowerVaults in our main campus server estate and I can honestly say that the TS-1279's are feature packed, reasonably priced and good quality hardware. I have my sights on two more in the next two years, one for each server room on our campus, all purely used for DMP backup volumes over iSCSI.

Finally got mine in the air over the weekend... I've quickly realized that it's worth stocking lots of spare props and prop adapters when your first starting out! Ended up buying Turnigy AeroDrive 2822's @ 1100kv, decided to play it safe with the ESC's and got the Turnigy Plush 30A's from HK (SimonK's firmware is going on them this week). 8x4.5 props seem to be working nicely with very little heat from the ESC's when left at full throttle for a while. I'm running the MultiWii 2.1 code on my FC and my next challenge is to figure out all the PID tweaking for stable mode, plus hook up the I2C magnometer and barometer I have ordered from SparkFun.

Looking good indeed, are those frames heavy? Are you using Mystery motors there? What do you think of them?

Not had much time to get on here today, I'm two men down and we're having some issues with our macs and to add to the mix our main software distribution point for SCCM has decided to have a heart attack... At least it's Friday! I bought myself a HK MultiWii Lite with the 2.0 firmware, probably not the best decision I've ever made because it is pretty basic. But I've got myself a magnometer and barometer from SparkFun and I'm going to add them to the I2C bus as soon as I figure out all this 3v3 to 5v conversion stuff! As far as FPV goes I'm actually using something a little different, I have a 2.4Ghz CCTV camera/monitor which I've stripped down to bare minimum, but I'm sure there will be too much noise on the video feed but I won't know for sure until I actually do a test flight. If it is pants I'll then look to buy a proper 5Ghz solution, it's worth a try though I guess. Motors and ESC's are starting to really get on nerves, the minute I think I've found the right combination for the right price I then see something else and completely change my mind! I really want some Turnigy G series motors but the price on them is ridiculous! I've found some E-Max 2212's that look nice, apparently they are the same motors that DJI ship with their FlameWheel F450 just rebranded and they get some really good reviews. But yeah, nice video there, those Hubsan's look really nimble don't they

Hi guys, I started my quadcopter project a few weeks back and I've been all over Google researching and it was nice to find a thread on here about the subject. So far I've got my frame, FC, FPV kit, and LiPo's & PDB. I really can't wait to get mine in the air after watching all the YouTube FPV videos! Just waiting for payday to arrive and I'm going to order my motors, ESC's and props... I feel like a kid again I'm that excited! We built our network from the ground up after leaving a BSF Managed Service over the summer just gone - We decided to go with a Smoothwall UTM-1000 appliance, soon realising how awesome the UTM 1000's OS was we decided to buy a basic Dell PowerEdge and install the Smoothwall UTM software on it and run both in an active-active failover array. So far we have been extremely impressed with the setup, we throw a LOT of traffic at the array and it handles it with ease, only a few times during peak hours has the UTM-1000 reported high resource usage on CPU load. The filtering is spot on, better than most of the other products we played with when evaluating appliances over the summer. We have recently purchased six more UTM series OS licences and six HP microservers to install into our parter primary schools - The plan is to mave all six remote Smoothwall UTM's monitoerd, updated and managed from our central UTM array We also use TMG/UAG for remote access and webapps, although its earmarked for end of life I'm not worried about it and it will be fit for purpose for a while to come.

Hi guys, we have just started using OTRS, its open source and extremely powerful - OTRS Help Desk software - OTRS IT Service Management software - Free Open Source Help Desk - Problem Management System - Customer Interaction Software | OTRS Started using it at the start of the September term to log all support incidents via email or the web interface for staff users, we needed something powerful and flexible enough to replace the BSF provided helpdesk system now we have gone in-house. So far we have almost reached 1000 tickets closed and its working like a dream. We have some good monthly reports coming out if it too so the SLT get to see lots of pretty graphs and charts to show now we are holding up against our SLAs Highly recommend using OTRS to anyone, I'd recommend giving it it's own VM to run on. Our facilities team are also considering having their own OTRS instance for incident logging too

Good advise OverWorked - I do the same thing when packaging, it saves so much time. Before Vm'ing I used to re-image a test workstation everytime I messed up the MSI package. But yeah, Winstall LE is great for packaging, and Orca is also good for clean up tasks like removing unwanted Current User keys the package may want to insert into the registry.

With £4000 to spend I would do it 'home brew' personally! For your cash you could easily build two 2U rack boxes with enough RAID-5 storage to see you through the next two years (plus keeping some spares on the shelf). With a £4000 budget considering the very small amount of data you are dealing with then you may as well do the most you can with it

We have setup a rather complicated system for our web design students. To cut a long story short the web design students have a 'W Drive' mapped that is the root of their web space. This can only be viewed internally though, for their web space to be accessed externally the site has to be verified my their course tutor. The tutor can then use a section of the staff intranet to enable the website for external access, this is done in the background using VB scripting. Personally the setup has to many complications and breaks to many times for my liking. We also have secure FTP access internally too, this is so the students can setup a site within Dreamweaver emulating 'real life' so to speak. Thinking of going down the Apache route as soon as I get the time, possibly creating a cPanel style management system.

We have just started to plan our new WiFi network. We are currently using a home-brew setup that is basically a VLAN with about 18 Linksys WAP4400N access points hooked up to a ZeroShell Linux box that acts as a Captive Portal with Kerberos authentication. Just purchased a 3Com managed WiFi solution, looks very nice out of the box, 1U management switch and some rather funky looking access points. I'm looking forward to having a proper play as soon as I get the time! Anyone else using 3Com managed WiFi kit here?

Have you got Pcounter just logging prints or logging prints and deducting credits? If it's just logging it will continue to allow users to print after reaching 0 credit. We have also found that when a user sends a job that will cost for example 20p, and they only have 16p on their account then Pcounter will still let them finish the job!

For projector supplies and installs we use... audio visual supplier in west yorkshire We have used them for six years now and would recommend them to anyone - Excellent level of service and never had a bad experience with them

Hi there, We have used Librium for as long as I can remember, it's simple and does the job just fine. We have looked at other products in the freeman's arena and to be honest we couldn't find anything else that we could use at such a simple level and still be able to drill onto and customise to our needs. We have Exchange 2007 here and Librium works just fine. With Librium being such an old product we originally had issues getting it to work with an SQL server and IIS6 (at first we had it running on an XP box with IIS5 and a Access database). In terms of email configuration we use the host boxes IIS service to create an SMTP smart host that forwards generated emails to the Exchange Hub Transport servers.

I've also had this problem with a site I've worked on recently. In the end I changed the template, it was the quickest way to fix the problem without having to drill to deep into things! Yes I know that is just lazy but I didn't have the time to investigate it properly!

Nice idea, good looking little site you have there. Seen as I am about to embark on new employment at a BSF campus I'm sure I will be coming across a fair amount of articles worth posting!

We have an internal and external server for multiplay gaming, the internal server is only ever used for basic development and is only accessible by the appropriate student user groups (and during specific times) for classes where 'online gaming' is covered in the courses modules. The external server is used for CS:S, DoD and CTF2 Steam games but is only fired up outside of office hours (and is always password protected), we also run a 24 hour TeamSpeak2 server for our clan members to keep in touch All hardware is ex-production server kit, home-made too! The internal box is a Dual AMD MP 1.7 Ghz with 3 GB RAM and the external box is a Intel P4 HT 2.2 Ghz with 4GB RAM running Win2k8. Best bet is to look for all the free games, anything that is open source if Okay - We do have a number of copies of Unreal Tourny but to be honest the students are usually more interested in making their own maps then testing them out!

Good question ICTNUT, I wouldn't mind knowing how to do this myself. I also have a number of Apache/MySQL web services that need to be placed in a failover cluster. For the time being I have just been doing nightly Robocopies and if a failure occurs I will change DNS to the backup server. Could do with something proper though to be honest!
