tech_guy Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Could just do with a day off tomorrow (Thursday) with the college shut due to snow. I could: catch up on sleep have a day off to make up for the fact that I came in to work every day last week despite feeling like death watch crap daytime tv eat rubbish food finish a website I should have finished last week cook an evening meal for my wife except she won't be there as she'll be working as usual We're south Warwickshire so we might just have heavy rain
Sylv3r Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Its rumoured that were getting heavy snow here in the North East tomorrow. I hope if its coming it comes before I actually leave the house rather then get to school and have to come back once the decision is made that the school is closed. I think we had a Carol service planned in a local church tomorrow night which has now been cancelled, whats the betting we don't get any snow at all!
FN-GM Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 All schools in Rochdale are closed tomorrow. Day off
ChrisH Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 We have been off for 2 days although I did make my way to work today to get some stuff to work on. Took me ages and had to walk the last bit. Severe weather warning tonight so probably off tommorow as well.....
john Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 School closed tomorrow in advance due to the nasty weather warnings which I personally think is a good thing planning ahead and preventing any risk of bus crashes, children slipping and breaking bones, staff crashing cars etc etc Very commendable of the head, and all well timed with the external access to webmail coming online today and the Term Server also coming online heh, still in testing though so just us on it, if we were to work at home.
Jackd Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I hope it snows, havent had a day off due to snow in my whole time in secondary school so far...were due one me thinks
Little-Miss Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 It's supposed to snow here.....but it never does...
Guest frances Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I would love some snow. I am so tired and I could do with a day off. Still we been forcast rain. What would be a nightmare though is if it snows at school and I have to drive home.
tech_guy Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 What would be a nightmare though is if it snows at school and I have to drive home. Yeah, that's what I'm dreading - especially as I live 20 miles away from the school.
Simcfc73 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 My head asked if I would put a message on the website in the morning if the school is closed.. I asked him to send me a text message but he insisted on phoning as he is useless with technology.
Gatt Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 living in rochdale, but work way over in Salford - where all schools are open And after Tuesday's fiasco I would image Rochdale have been out gritting (As will be Oldham) Anyway got up this mornign to find its just sleeting So off to work I go...
SteveT Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Plenty spare here!!! Back under the duvet now :p:p
dezt Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Well, it's snowed here, but we are still open, it feels like the only school in lancashire that is open......
K.C.Leblanc Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 No snow here, I expect we'll get about 8 feet of the stuff on friday afternoon and it'll all be gone by monday.
elsiegee40 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I hope it snows, havent had a day off due to snow in my whole time in secondary school so far...were due one me thinks I grew up in North Yorkshire - Harrogate - and in the 70s we had deep snow for long periods every winter. My schools never closed for snow. The only concession was that the kids from Nidderdale go to go home early (usually 3pm instead of 3.55pm) if their bus company decided that they needed an early start to get up the dale. The kids who came on buses from other directions never got that. They had to wait until 5 to 4 like the rest of us. A friend moved to Ashford, Kent and wrote an astonished letter to me saying her school hasd been closed for snow and there was only a couple of inches down. It would be nice to get proper snow again... but I probably wouldn't feel the same about it now I'm a grown up. It's more fun when you're a kid!
webman Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Few inches of snow here in Bishop Auckland. At 7:30 the school was closed to students only; but half an hour later that was changed to include staff as well. Shame
witch Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I'm sorry - what is this 'snow' of which you speak?
Hightower Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 We are off here , cos of the snow ) I drove past your place this morning on the way to work.... the roads weren't even bad! You jammy devil! Got a message off the boss at 7.30 saying "school open" - guess I'd better pull my sorry ass out of bed then. Walked through the office and everyone is manning the phones with the amount of staff that can't get in. I'm like "Wha?!! It was a doddle" - I don't know, some people just don't make the effort anymore. Anyhow, point of my post? Hopefully my efforts of getting here will be rewarded by being told to go home.....
Hightower Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Oh, and if the school is closed don't you have to go and report to your nearest LEA school? (Might be different rules for you Sylv3r). When i worked in Peterlee I couldn't make it in once, I rang up and was told I had to go round my nearest school asking if they needed staff. Was told most of the time the head says they are ok and to go home, but I did choose the school with a bitch of a head and she asked me to stay and TEACH!
gwendes Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Plenty spare here!!! Back under the duvet now :p:p I actually, actually want to kill you.
tech_guy Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 No snow here only rain and people driving like muppets because of it.
