The announcement of it being GA being on a bugs and issues page is quite funny to me.

I saw the pop up on my PC last night, and given the bugs and issues on that page have been cleared I might give it a shot by the end of the week.

Showing as Feature Update within Intune....

No immediate rush to update, as 25H2 supported until October 2028 as previously mentioned.

So far so good - will say I've noticed around a 10% - 20% RAM usage drop on our 8GB machines running 26H2 compared to 25H2, and I've been told by the few staff that performance has improved. A welcome update for a change! Won't be moving the entire site over to it for a goodwhile but optimistic so far.

I have been installing 26h2 on any repaired laptops. All good so far.

It was noticeably faster on my laptop at home, it seemed a lot snappier than before.

Installed it on a 4GB laptop and need to confirm how it runs compared to another of the same model but simple things like the start menu actually load now on a fresh login where as before you would have to wait for the machine to settle down.

So it seems this new version does run better on machines with lower amounts of RAM - due to prices etc I bought 8GB laptops hoping RAM might go down and I can buy some DIMMS later;  have had some complaints from staff (with 50 tabs open) of poor performance on 8GB 25h2.  So good to hear this version helps that.

It goes to show how little effort MS has made so far to make a well crafted, usable OS when they had to wait for a global war to work on it, 8GB of RAM being "small" when NT4 did not that much less on almost 1000 times less.  But now hopefully with this RAM crisis we will see lean, well optimised software again.

not too much notable in this version though I did like how in 25H2 they started adding a little bit of colour back into the UI e.g. the battery icon is now green/orange/red so you notice it a bit more. Why they ever got rid of this (one of those dumb UI fads we see here and there like the skeuomorphoclasm nonsense we had before)

Microsoft (in the past) have been quite clear that they do not want to be in the Operating Systems market for too much longer as the future for them is with Cloud Services such as M365.  Their ideal situation would be for some sort of very lightweight OS on a Laptop or Desktop that loads straight from the Cloud straight in to the M365 subscription service.  Who knows if that will be the case in my/our lifetimes or it may just be around the corner with AI doing it all for them - who knows?!

Exactly like that but we're a little way off that I think at the moment.

A large amount of code in Windows is Open Source so they're not even writing all of their own code any more!  In fact (apparently) in their T&Cs it says if you send them $5 they will post you all the open source code in the mail!!
