Hello

As above really.

Currently looking at purchasing iPads (96 of them.....) and like to hear recommendations for using MDM with them?

Thanks in advance

We use Jamf, really really powerful and quick. Profiles apply pretty much immediately and its easy enough to secure them. Also useful to apply policies and reset passcodes!!

Lightspeed: Wasn't very impressed. Switched to...

Mosyle (free): Does what we need and they were a great help with the set up. Seems to be a bit laggy on updating information, but it's free! If we were going "all in" on iPads (I hope not!) I'd consider the paid version.

The favourite seems to be JAMF, but I've not tried it.

If you have Microsoft licensing and cost is your biggest factor, Intune will likely come out the cheapest. It's probably not the best, but it does the job for us (though we only have ~200 iPads and we don't make that many changes).

We use ManageEngine Endpoint Central MDM installed on an onsite server. Quite competitive on cost and convenient since we use if for managing Windows devices however I suspect there are probably better cloud/hosted options out there these days.

Do any of you use MDM's with offsite filtering to prevent pupil's accessing inappropriate websites on school issued devices when at home/etc? We're currently looking at providing school issued devices to some pupils next year, but I don't think the ManageEngine MDM has any kind of integrated web filtering to block specific categories (VPNS, Adult content, etc)? Are there any standalone products which would do this if we don't want to change our MDM?

We're about to move from Lightspeed (wouldn't recommend) to JAMF (looks good from the trial I had).

I've also used Meraki but their licensing cost was horrendous to move to the paid version and Mosyle free version which is OK and will do most things without you needing to pay for it.

JAMF is the best but also most expensive,

Mosyle should do what you need to do and is cheaper :)

I am using Jamf School which is a lot cheaper than the regular Jamf.

Since we purchased brand new iPads I decided to get the perpetual licences which work out to £18.00 per device from Albion. There are also annual licences available for £6.00 per device per year.

Mosyle has always done what we've needed it to over the years. One of our schools has had a 5 year plan with Meraki not sure yet if it will just be renewed or moved to Mosyle (probably).

Meraki is quite good, but doesn't really do anything for us that really stands out above and beyond Mosyle.

I do miss the old Mosyle interface, new one I'm not a massive fan of.

Jamf School here.1800 devices over 19 schools

Once you get your head around it easy peasy, and applies policies, profiles and settings very quickly. Any commands you run reach the iPad very quickly usually.

Used to use Mosyle, which as said above, did the job but interface is slow and can be slow to send commands. Support was super quick though if I did have any issues.

Recently started using Jamf at the place I’m at now and I wouldn’t look back. So much quicker, interface works a whole lot better. Commands and profiles send out pretty much immediately. The big one for me was being able to go onto a device and just install an app to it from there, with Mosyle you’d have to create a whole new profile just to install for one device.

Very handy when you’ve got a queue of pupils outside your room all having issues with iPads!

Yeah Lightspeed as an MDM is clunky, and I preferred Meraki in my last role, but secured a 200 device free account when they were available and we use Lightspeed for filtering in my new place.

It does a good job though, but I recently seem to have issues with app updates failing and them being stuck mid install.

I used to use Lightspeed but made the switch to Meraki primarily because it was free (through LGFL)

Lightspeed support is not he best but at least you have a number to dial as opposed to raising a ticket with Meraki and it repeatedly disappearing and the support it not existent

The company I work for, we use Mosyle.

Support is fantastic, as others have said it can be slow but we have thousands of devices and its used everyday to manage devices.

Not sure about other MDMs but Moysle is linked to Apple Business Manager and we can import a device with about two clicks

Seen Mosyle in two places, cryptic and unworkably slow/unreliable sending commands. Or indeed doing anything.

Went with Jamf over Christmas and not looked back, it's been super.

Jamf School at £5.00 per device is NOT the most expensive, get a quote for the fully paid for version of Mosyle so like for like it's £7.00 and you have to have a minimum number of devices.

We renewed our Meraki licenses for staff and naughty students (managed IDs) in April, just under £40 for 5 years (£10/year paid annually). Come to add another 350 licenses for our new Year 7 intake with ASM/managed IDs and the price is £60 for 5 years (£22/year paid annually) which blows our budget - turns out we were wrongly quoted in April!

We currently use Airwatch for students which are £11/year but we hate it and are moving away each as we renew each years' intake.

Grateful to this thread as we're now trialling JAMF School for £6.90/year paid annually or other nice prices for 3year or perpetual.

Should be able to get Jamf for £5 per license, at least the two suppliers (SYNC/KRCS) I've been with that's always been the default price.
