National Pie Week - What's your fave filling?

So this week has been National Pie Week.

I do love a good pie, especially when eating it in a good country pub.

 

What is your favourite filling?

 

Mine has to be Steak and Ale. I like a good crusty pastry with deep filling and plenty of gravy on the top.

Topped off with some vegetables and either mash or chips.

 

Closely in second place I'd go for a Chicken, Bacon, and Mushroom.

I'm hungry already!

Butter pie. It's a bit of a regional thing here in my part of Lancashire. It has a potato and onion filling (sometimes with cheese added) and is delicious. A weeks worth of carbs in a lovely pastry case.

It tastes a lot better than you'd expect and is great either hot or cold and I usually have mine with baked beans.

Don't get me wrong, I love a savoury pie as well, but would it be too uncouth to say apple pie or mince pie? If I had to pick a savoury pie, then I'd probably go a little different and say cottage pie - But a pastry-based pie is also good!

I don't really mind what type of pie it is, so long as it's actually a pie and not a dish with a pastry lid as per numerous local pubs/eateries.

Would be something like Steak & Kidney or Stead & Ale for me, anything with meat in is good, not a big fan of pastry though!!

Oh yes! I do love a Mince pie warmed up under the grill and then pour over a drop of Jack Daniels on the top. Beautiful.

I like a good Scotch pie too. Again, with baked beans.

You have to get the pastry just right though as it gets hard and brittle very easily if overcooked.

Here's one I prepared earlier (snake and pygmy) and yes, it was a proper pie not just a lid on a dish.

My dad always brings home butter pies and more when he visits family in Preston!

I absolutely have to give a shout-out to Securly here. Securly organised a couple of pie and beer nights and all of the pies were just fantastic. @Securly_Marc or @Chanelle_Securly or will correct me if I recall incorrectly, but I think they came from https://www.mypie.london/. Now I'm a regular meat eater, but the one pie that stood out above the others was a veg one. The pie was Mushroom, Spinach & Truffle Oil and amazing. They were doing nationwide deliveries but their website suggests that's stopped currently, but if you are in their area, I'd absolutely recommend them. As for another Securly Pie and Beer evening - do we want one? - absolutely yes!
