I'm currently in isolation with mild symptoms.

 

I can empathise with those concerned about parents and other loved ones.

My dad died on Monday. Nothing to do with this virus, he was very ill and his passing is something of a relief.

Where this blasted thing does hurt though is in the aftermath of such an event. I didn't make it to the hospital in time to see him before he went, but even if I had I would not have been allowed in. I spent a hour in the car park with my mum and my sister, both desperately upset, and I couldn't hug them. Nor will I be able to for some time.

 

And now we're moving on to the necessary arrangements, but uncertainty clouds everything. Will we even be able to have a funeral? We cannot possibly invite dad's friends and former colleagues because they're all over 70. Scenes from Italy with bodies being moved for mass cremation play on my mind.

 

My only hope is that I do have the virus, and I can get tested to prove I've had it. Then, at least, I can see my family without fear of passing something on.

 

Sorry if this is inappropriate, I had to get it off my chest.

My worst fear at the moment - there is going to be a lot of this and a lot of people will be affected in some way, the psychological fallout of this will be immense

On my bike ride today I went past a pub

 

quite a few people outside at tables - OK fine

 

lots of noise inside suggesting that the inside was busy - and the pub is tiny so it must have been full

My wife has said at the rate they are going it looks like they will have more pupils in school on Monday than at any other time! Apparently one of the pupils who has been signed up will increase their attendance by 100% just by turning up on Monday... Edited March 20, 2020 by elsiegee40

Cool thing of the week.

 

I got remote support software deployed just before staff got sent home earlier in the week.

Then I setup a phone number for parents and students to call their teachers at home during school hours without teachers giving out their personal details. If the teacher doesn’t want calls, they can still call in and check their school voice mail.

We have been providing online lessons most of the week.

I worked from home today and was able to remote into staff PCs for support who were also at home. Very cool.

A few the same staff, I feel, would not have given me the time of day or a reasonably polite word just a few days ago!

It's fairly broad. Point number one, is if you can keep kids at home, then do. Heads are going be having some tough conversations

My school has said that all teaching staff and all TAs are to go in as normal. They have created a timetable of who will be teaching the expected few children, and planning and such for the teachers. The TAs have a job list as long as your arm - displays, tidying, shredding etc

 

I cant help feeling that this is not right - we are supposed to be keeping a couple of metres apart if possible and that isnt going to happen.

 

I wont be in anyway as I am in the same position as Mike - well controlled asthma but considered vulnerable

 

I was fine until I read something from somebody at Imperial College who has said that we are going to have to do this for 18 months at least. That isnt possible, is it? My grandson is due in early June and I cannot bear the thought of him coming into all this = and his first couple of years be marred by not being able to do all the things you do with a baby - joining groups, meeting other mums, that sort of thing.

I think realistically? I can see this being a fairly long term thing, yeah. If we let up on the distancing stuff early, it'll just cause an increase again. I believe Wuhan have started easing their restrictions, so we'll see in a a few weeks!

I'm doing my best to do eveything I can to protect others, I'm washing my hands reguarly for 20 seconds a time. Issue is they don't tell you what to do if you suffer with Eczema and I can get it pretty severly on my hands! Anti Bacterial Soap and Hand Sanitizer is awful on my skin and if you where to see my hands now they look burnt, but there's no advice for this kind of thing. I've been trying to use my own soap which is better but I can only get away with a Dove Bar which is impossible to carry everywhere but even excessive washing with that causes my hands to peel!

Europe haven't been easing restrictions, so it isn't any sort of indicator of whether there are an uptick of cases once restrictions are lifted. Only China has done that.

True but how truthful are they. Guess its wait and see and any information from any source can be used.

It looks like Ageas will not pay out for our cancelled holiday.

Really upset - that's a lot of money.

Yes we could rebook, but for when? And we cant get insurance anyway now

Travel agent have offered a credit note - but will they be in business next year? I doubt it

I know, I know - first world problems - but after the worries about my soon to be born grandson (will we be able to see him?) this is possibly the last straw.

 

The absolute worst thing was getting a automatic email from the insurance company we booked with LAST year (cover has run out) stating that they will pay out for our holiday.
