For those who provide a 'special' printer is this because of push back from the Exams Officer or other reasons?

That was a reply to Andy_B As its SEND, pupils finish at different times but I'm pushing for the invigilator (one of two in the room) to go and release/collect the jobs for signing. I want to resist having a special 'exams' printer before that escalates to a 'special' pastoral printer and a 'special' KS3 office printer.

Its not the technical setup its the physical. If there is no printer in the room and you have follow on printing what do you do about printing the exam scripts during the exam.

So we are moving to follow on printing and finally getting rid of the majority of the 55 printers that we have. The plan is not to have printers in the IT suits. The Exam Officer has got wind of the plan and is in a flap. We do a few exams for SEND pupils using ExamPro and on completion they print the scripts (X2) and the student then signs each page. Anyone do something similar without the printer in the exam room and how does the Exam people handle it?

yes you can set the permissions on the sharepoint side. I'd create a sharepoint site for this rather than teams but this should work in teams. On the sahrepoint part of the team click on the gear icon -> Site permissions -> advanced settings. Click permission levels -> ass a permission level. Give it a name such as drop box or something similar. Check Add Items and View items and uncheck edit, delete and open items and save it. Make a new folder in the document library (this is why i would use Sharepoint rather than teams) and stop inheriting permissions, assign your users/groups and the new custom permission (dropbox) level.

Maybe the DfE doesn't have a clue either! As for coursework kids can cut and paste from the internet as it is so the problem is the same but in a different wrapper. My solution for course work would be to change the criteria and make each pupil do a 10 minute Q&A where they are asked questions about their piece of work. That would show up those who haven't done the leg work. Of course here would be pupils who had but had SEND issues such as elective mute but there must be some kind of provision for this?

In INSET meeting today the school was informed that we have a grant that allows us to use Blackout for free for 5 years and it will be rolled out in stages with a view to three scenarios: 1. No Phone 2. Brick 3. Blackout phone for medical use. no mention of IT input as yet.

Reading all of the reply's to the OP my take on it is that in the UK a scheme like this hasn't been widely taken up is because each school or MAT is attempting to do it whilst in the OP's example it is the state (LEA/GOV) that is driving it.

Some people could see it as an additional burden to keep a stock of devices and have to loan them out and then get them back when a device goes for repair. If there is something concrete in place then I'm sure this mindset would change.

So does the school/local gov provide a temporary replacement or is it a case of tough you will be without until its fixed? The perceived need to have 'spares' is another blocking point IMO.

Interesting re replacement/repairs as looking at all of the posts that seems to be one of the biggest bugbears. Offsite filtering is mandatoery? Guess state government read MAT for Intune. Question - is this directed from state level with state level funding and support? If so over here the lack of state (LEA) control would probably be the main reason for slow uptake as each school or MAT is having to re invent the wheel so to speak.

Interesting to see how the 'push back' on screen time will effect 1:1 schemes.

Because we've always done it the old way? Just like trying to move onto the cloud or adopt paperless teaching people in power seem to hold on to the way it was before. I'd be asking why/how does it work in places like Australia and ~New Zealand then try and adopt those practices.

OK how about you add the email address automatically then use power automate to send a notification to their main email when the second account receives new mail. I did this for a member of staff who wanted something similar and it works fine.

Bit like outlook online, you have to open another tab to see another mailbox that you have access to whereas in Outlook they appear on the same screen. Staff hate that!

If your using 365 its better to use calendars linked to Teams or SharePoint sites, its the new way of working. Don't shoot the messenger, I know how difficult it is to get people to work in teams or Sharepoint when they have been using email and shared calendars. I still think your problem is the clash between new Outlook and old.

Can only say that with ours it was limitation in new outlook on how it handled shared calendars. Moved staff away from old outlook and it was fine. If you are saying that everyone is on new outlook then maybe there is a complex permissions thing going on that it can't handle. We used Co Pilot and Claude to sort it out.

Are you using the outlook app or just the web? We had an issue where users on the old app couldn't see new calendar events on the new app and visa versa.

We have been using Signin App successfully for this for the last year.
