I'm really worried about my parents, both vulnerable, co-morbidities (>70) and they live in a top floor flat - It's mothers day this weekend so what do we do ? I can't get over the thought I may never see them again except for talking on the phone

We've had our meeting and effectively are open as normal on monday - with only the keyworkers/vulnerable kids in. All staff in though which is odd, although I suspect its all subject to change

 

I also have parents who have illnesses that make them vulnerable, so will have to just phone them for the time being.

 

My daughter was due to sit her GCSEs this year, she's devastated :-( and I can't do anything to help that

Sending sympathy for everyone in this situation - it must be tough

 

 

Mother Day is going to be a difficult time for a lot of people this year

 

we were only saying last night that it is kinda good that my mother-in-law died in August because all this would worry her sick and not seeing her family in person would be torture for her

and when she got sick she got confused - so it would have been terrible

Really bad for those who should have been sitting exams

 

WHen I used to teacher Year 11 there were always kids (normally boys) who coasted up to mocks and were behind with coursework etc etc etc

then panicked just before coursework deadline date and just managed to work like hell and get something sorted

then worked like hell again and get the exam stuff sorted

 

those kids are now screwed

 

saw it happen to a few every year - ill on exam day etc etc etc - but they never listened

 

and also - I can imagine that quite a few teachers (especially in 'some' schools) will meet their targets regarding results - that may not otherwise have done so

still - dunno what else they can do otehr than trust the teachers to submit honest stuff

and - to be fair - the vast majority of teacher will be fair and honest

I'm sure the exam boards will ensure grade distributions will largely follow annual trends. Doing so will be a challenge, but having worked in what is now AQA, the have a strong department of statisticians and I'm sure they will come up with something that as fair as it possibly can be.

Re Mothers Day, people are just going to go anyway which could potentially cause a huge issue - don't think I've heard anything about this on the news

Indeed - while obviously we want to be close to our loved ones at a time of stress, perhaps it would be best to call or use videoconferencing this year. This is particularly important if your parent/s are in a doubly vulnerable group (e.g. asthma, heart disease, etc.).

I have never reset so many Kerboodle passwords as I have these last two days. We closed to Yrs7-9 from yesterday and I--supposedly on a day off, using holiday I booked a month ago because I was going to lose it otherwise--ended up sending over 60 emails between 8am and 8pm. It'll all calm down next week once everyone is off, I expect, but right now it's panic stations.

 

HAP+ had a bit of a wobble yesterday morning, but it proved to be one of those "god I love virtualization" moments as we just bumped its processor cores and RAM allocation. Actual bloody magic. Love it.

 

I'm working from home now, anyway (my daughter gets the flu vaccine), and already these two small children are driving me insane. Turns out autistic kids don't appreciate changes to their routine, who'd have known. Tesco at 8am was madness this morning--queues like it was Christmas Eve, at 8:10am on a random Thursday morning--but I did manage to get the last pack of loo roll off the shelf. First I've seen in a week!

Some will, and I can only hope they understand the risk they are introducing, not to themselves, but to there parents. I do wonder how many will take heed though. My MIL and FIL, who are very family focused, went in to full lock down very quickly, slightly to my surprise. My mother has also taken it on board to a greater extent than I thought she might. There's two distinct factors here - i) avoiding spread to the more vulnerable ii) slowing the nation wide spread by isolating.

Ah - Kerboodle password resets - that was part of my last job - I don't miss it! If there was an app that need to allow the user to self reset a password (either via there school email account) or personal - this was it!

So far there is lots of unknown, HT said they can't predict how many kids will be in school on Monday. So he asks everyone who can to show up on Monday and we will take from there. There is talk about staff rotation and such.

We were given questionaire to fill in, asking if we or people we live with have any underling conditions - I guess if anyone do, they will not ask that person to be on rotation.

 

Lots of password changes to kerboodle and other services, teachers are waking up and try to use services they supposed to use for the last few months. Of course everything is expected asap/on the spot. We are busy. Most annoying part is, that there is little guidance from central government DfE.

It would make sense - if teachers are supposed to be in school to teach/mind kids of key workers then their own kids need to be somewhere as well

It would make more sense if teachers' kids went to the same school with their parents for the duration, rather than doubling the social contact through two schools.

could work if they are a similar age group - and if the insurance company is prepared to be flexible

 

it doesn't work too well if the kid is Primary and the pupils are secondary
