None of mine are. Or, if they are, no-one has told me.

 

That said, I'd probably only know when I get a phone call asking me where I put the laptops that were allocated to pupils 3 weeks ago. ;)

I'm just curious if schools are actually making any preparations for this or is the BBC making something out of nothing?

 

I have (literally) just added a post to our website asking critical workers to complete a registration form, just to keep our records up to date, as part of our contingency plan. *Staff have also been looking at online materials from earlier this year in case we need to use them again.

 

EDIT: *This started earlier this week and isn't in response to the BBC story.

Only preparation I have made is giving a fresh set of login labels to the classes as the kids can't remember their details and they keep losing things (Primary School so remembering an email address and password is hard for most here). Wasn't asked to do it but thought it was only sensible. No news here regarding setting any machines up etc and since I am on my own this time, I would like to know a bit more in advance if they know something i don't in management.

A friend of mine school (primary) has told all teachers to prepare work to be done remotely as well as in school.

 

Here, I am not sure what they have told teachers but the general feeling is we will be back regardless.

Nothing has been mentioned here about any potential working from home scenario. New head starts in January so she may well have to make these decisions before she has got to her office!

It was mentioned in passing during our staff briefing this morning (between staff leavers and apparently it's going to snow next week), but I'm pretty sure no-one really took it in. TBH the idea is that the staff should be doing it all the time anyway for isolating students. - I've been trying to push the whole "build your in-school lessons using Office 365/ online resources and then it's no extra work" idea.

 

 

Does anyone know what the official stance on LFDs over the holidays is? Our Testing Manager told everyone we didn't need keep up regular testing over the holidays (just test if you'd need to for going out like everyone else) and test before we come back. Then in the briefing this morning we were told to keep twice weekly testing as normal.

The DfE bulletin this afternoon confirmed LFD test to be done evening /morning before return in January and then twice per week. There are no school related obligations for LFD tests during the break.

Saw something on the TV this morning saying the R number for the new varient is thought to be between 3 and 5

 

which is quite scary but just confirms what we already know

My friend’s daughter (aged 27) is a nurse and lives with my friend. My friend is immunosuppressed.

 

The daughter is due to be a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding on Saturday. She is dreading it. The bride has stipulated that no masks are to be worn at the wedding.

 

Daughter has decided that, despite the bride’s orders, she is wearing a mask except when walking down the aisle and for photos.

My emails from one school has gone mad today, asking for webcams, Chromebooks the lot

I'm like calm-down until it's official let's hold tight

 

What did they do for the first lockdown? I know our teachers eat headsets or something, but shouldn't they have some of this stuff already?

Last day today for students and teachers - thank any lord!

 

Message from Snr Techie last night to say his teenage son had tested +ve LFT so they're off for PCR in the morning, I've told techie to work from home today - no need for the rest of us to take any risks when school finishes at 12.30!

And our NM has a positive LFT, PCR ordered. (He's largely asymptomatic, luckily) The other two of us in the team are taking LFTs daily now just in case. I can just see Christmas getting cancelled. I've got a booster booked for two days time so fingers crossed!

So will schools come back for just 1 day in Jan like this year, or a whole week so the kids can infect each other and then their families better?

 

It has to be a week so we can complete our phased return and test all the students before they go home again.

I get the feeling we will see a lot of denialism till they realise we can't go ahead with New Years... So they'll let us have Christmas and I think we might see a panic before the schools return, as we're likely to be in the 200,000 a day range at that point.

 

Then it'll be the opinion of Conservative Backbenchers vs the pressure of the public and the scientific consensus.

Or omicron peaks in a couple of days and drops off as quickly as it spiked, and everything's back within "acceptable limits" by Christmas.
