I have just booked my Booster as I am eligible in a couple of weeks. Double vaccine is already mandatory at work (working with the vulnerable) so it’s only a matter of time before 3 vaccines are mandatory.

 

It was an easy process to book online. You can also pick any approved vaccine you like - it was like a buffet menu. I am curious to know if you have the choice in the UK?

AZ for 1 & 2.

Booster was Moderna.

 

They had Pfizer for those getting their first or second doses.

 

There wasn't a choice behind offered. You took what you were given. Not that I asked as I was just pleased to be getting the booster.

 

The side effects were fairly minor. Mostly just a sore arm. I was exhausted over the weekend, but I've had what I think is a mild long COVID, so that's been normal for most of the last 2 years.

Best to have a different vaccine for you booster than you had for initial jabs, it seems. I don't know if in the UK that is factored into what the booking system offers people online. My booster was at a walk-in that only offered Pfizer (I had AZ previously). I'm guessing they wouldn't turn anyone away from being boostered with the same vaccine that they've already had.

All three Pfizer for me. Pfizer and Moderna are both mRNA based vaccines. An interesting study comparing these two can be found at https://www.the-scientist.com/news-opinion/moderna-vs-pfizer-is-there-a-best-mrna-vaccine-69229. One point I didn't realise until I read this article, is that Moderna has over 3 times the amount of mRNA in it per dose than Pfizer and appears to make a difference. The time between first and second dose looks to be a factor too but is still a lot of research to be completed.

Had my booster just before Christmas. Pfizer, like the first two. Didn't have much issue with the first two but this one put me in bed for about 3 days with major joint pain.

 

However I was also getting over the tail end of a cold and probably should have waited until I was 100% again before getting it.

Read something this morning ( sorry no link) saying that the UK was better at fighting off infections - and one reason may be that we have more AZ vacs than most countries

 

AZ is not - it said - the same as the rna vaccines but is more traditional and it may be that it lasts longer

 

 

 

anyway - that is what I remmeber

Apparently everybody an' their mums is packin' 1 in 5 hospital patients have COVID round 'ere.

Apparently, also, hospitals are putting holds on non-urgent surgeries due to shortages from their staff isolating.

 

And the government is going to relax the testing/isolating rules.

Apparently, if you have a positive LFT but don't show symptoms, you don't get a PCR test any more, or so they're about to announce

But nothing about if you do show symptoms?

So essentially if you're full of the symptoms, stay off, but if you've got stealth-covid, you're not allowed to confirm it properly?

(All this from BBC radio this morning)

 

So instead of, y'know, fixing the actual problem of not having enough tests to go around, we're just gonna decide people don't need them any more? :doh:

If you're ill, feverish and coughing up a lung; I don't care if you've had a negative PCR test. You're still ill. Go home. Stay away.

Is that unreasonable?

Well, if you dont test, you have more tests available, people dont have to isolate and the stats show less positives... its win, win, win!! (If your a prime minister trying to show control over spiralling numbers and hide a shortage of tests... :rolleyes: )

Nuh-uh. Out with you, good $title! We don't tolerate that kind of sensible thinking here!

 

(If anything, I'd hope this pandemic would make employers a little more forgiving about "ok, sure, it's 'only' a cold, but everything hurts, so I'm staying home"-type illnesses. But I shan't hold my breath. Or maybe I shall, what with all the COVID in the air...)

It doesn't matter what happens with teachers, they're going to back fill with support staff, because they're the same thing as far as Mr Zahawi is concerned.

Dinner ladies taking physics, IT staff taking PE, receptionists doing PSHE.

 

Gonna be a laugh innit.

Both! I washed up a dozen or so teaspoons first thing this morning, went back a couple of hours later and they'd all been used and left in the sink...

Non coronavirus reply: We had a toaster, microwave, fridge, and kettle in the Network Support Office. The first task of the day (we got in early) was to wash the cups and spoons and collect water (enough to cover brews for the day)

What you need to do is put them all into the bin and then pour your heart into producing the most blood-boilingly passive agressive note possible to leave in place. :)

 

Back on topic, I was going to ask whether others had seen the Christmas Lectures this year? All about viruses and the pandemic, hosted by JVT (we like JVT in our household). Some pretty cool demonstrations, with my particular favourite being the WiFi thing showing how things propogate according to different spatial distributions of R. I haven't seen the 3rd lecture yet. They'll be on iPlayer.

I think it is coronavirus is related. Basic good hygiene will provide some (maybe not a lot), protection against transmission. It will protect against other nasties too so that's a good thing. When I visited the lead school with the CEO of the trust I am a governor for, the CEO had a rota kitchen cleaning/tidy up by staff. I suspect this changed post covid, but I can guarantee the kitchen would be spotless and there were no cups or spoons lying around. He had a passion for this and would not tolerate a messy environment. He regarded it a necessary part of being professional and beside could have visitors at anytime. Anyone not following the lead would find life very uncomfortable. Ultimately, my point is that this is about leadership and management. No school needs to be left in a mess.
