Isn't the worry that the sort who haven't been vaccinated are the sort who would rather just go into work regardless and spread it around?

Djokovic story rolls on as expected. If the timing of the test and subsequent mixing is confirmed, given the Serbian requirement to isolate for 14 days, then he is irresponsible and not showing respect to others. If his travel declaration is false, regardless of who filled it in, I think he's in even hotter water.

I couldn't image a man who refuses to vaccinate despite all the evidence showing how safer it is for you than contracting Covid, a man who arranges a tennis tournament during a pandemic in response to lockdowns and infects loads of players at said event, a man who is pictured hanging out with children unmasked and close together the day after he claims to have tested positive for Covid-19, who will pose with a brand of booze named after a World War II Axis powers collaborator and war criminal which was bound to upset Bosnians and Croatians and has been pictured hanging out with Radko Miladic and Milorad Dodic... I couldn't imagine that a man like that would lie about his wereabouts on an immigration form.

 

Nah, just couldn't think he'd do such a thing.

Some stats on the radio this morning indicated that the Australian policy of requiring players to get vaccinated appears to have worked pretty well, Djokovic aside. The vaccination rates of the top 100 players have jumped up to pretty high levels in the lead-up to the tournament.

There are still loads of destinations that require vaccinations and people have the choice to get vaccinated or not go. There hasn't been much fuss about that previously. Mandatory vaccinations for residents is slightly contentious; vaccinations for travel shouldn't even warrant a discussion. And it should apply to everyone, travelling for work (professional sports people, politicians, anyone else) or leisure.

True - I honestly believe we've passed through the information age and are now in the misinformation age...

 

Previously - if you wanted to publish an expert opinion, it'd be scrutinised and reviewed by other experts in the field and if it was really good - it'd be referred to by others in the field.

 

Now, any crackpot wearing their y-fronts on their head can write anything as 'fact' - the same level of scrutiny still exists, but by that point - the falsehood has already been accepted and spread.*

I have a theory

 

Previously to get information we had to look at a newspaper written by a 'qualified' journalist - which his/her editior checked etc etc

or look in a book written by someone who had put some effort into it

 

and we hqd fairly few sources available - and all were of this quality

 

or we could ask someone like a teacher or other educated person

 

so all the information we got was mostly filtered though people who are likely to have checked it out

 

 

now we have loads of information and data available unfiltered

 

or filtered by any old moron from anywhere in the World

 

what could possibly go wrong!!!

 

 

 

Anyway - on another forum () I seem to be recently getting fed a lot of anti vax stuff - and pro trump stuff

 

anyway - one comment today was good - from someone answering an anti-vax post saying that the vaccine has caused many many many serious problems

Grandkid no 3 was in hospital at the time of a certain 'business meeting'

 

kid was in there for nearly 5 months after being born

 

no-one could visit - his sister and brother were allowed in for a few minutes as a special favour on Christmas day to meet him

 

 

It was uncertain whether he would come home from the hospital - or just go direct to his funeral - not stopping at Go and not collecting a life

 

and the funeral would have been limited - dunno if we would have been able to go

 

 

 

 

 

still - don;t want to get all amphibian

 

but rather 'upsetting'

 

 

sorry - just realised and got a bit upset - better to share on here than put it together for Mrs mikeprice when she has bad 'flu (not Covid - which is good!)

Case rates are dropping almost as rapidly as they rose. I hope the trend continues but then stays down. It's clearer than ever that the correlation between cases and hospitalisations is very different to a year ago and before.

On anti-virals, I'm looking forward to seeing the impact of those in the field and hopeful about there ability to have a significant impact. I'm wary of of being overly optimistic and troublesome new variants remain a concern, but I do see light at the end of what has been a long and dark tunnel.

Much fun has been had about the fact that Novak Djokovic's first name sounds like No-Vax, but did you know that his surname, roughly translated from Serbian, means "I don't even bother with washing my hands, mate"?

So having a conversation with someone about how quickly the case rates are dropping, they said this goes to show its all getting better. Had a quick look at number of tests done and the drop in the numbers of tests done over the last 7 days is basically 50k more than the drop in "cases".

 

Considering I would assume the majority of people going for a PCR are likely to be positive anyway is the rapid drop in "confirmed cases" not just because of the massive drop in the testing to confirm them cases in the first place?

 

Maybe I just have a friday brian on and I'm missing something important?

 

Just if there was 346,000 Less PCR tests done in the last 7 days that would, in my mind, very much account for the 304,000 less "people that tested positive"? Not so much that there isn't just as many cases, just that they are no longer being recorded?

I think you'd need to have some measure or how many of those 'missing' tests were actually instances of people wanting a test but not getting one, as opposed to people not needing a test in the first place.
