Daughter’s flat mate tested positive (LFT) on Friday. Both are double vaccinated and flat mate feels well, but has been isolating in her bedroom.

Today they have had confirmation that it’s Omicron and daughter is required to quarantine as well even though the rules change next week… not that she has been anywhere since the flat mate tested positive anyway.

Some friends were off to get their booster jabs, so I got a lift with them to get my second... Denied! Boosters are different apparently.

How odd! When we got our boosters, there were second vaccinations mixed in with us in the queue.

NHS has had an isolation policy slightly different to general public: if someone in your household tests positive, staff are not allowed to go to work (compared to general where you have to take daily tests and can then go to work).

Seems like a sensible policy, but it's collapsed due to staff shortage...

I'm not sure it matters much and most importantly I hope everyone recovers quickly, but when I got notification to isolate 4 days ago, the following link already had this advice on Omicron - i.e. where suspected, all contacts need to isolate regardless of vaccination status. It must be quite challenging to keep all the gov pages up to date, but I have come across inconsistencies. The biggest issue I see is the end date of isolation. Track and Trace says one thing based on first symptoms, but the the original NHS Covid -19 app works off the test result date, which they ask you to log.

One small positive - booster jab numbers are showing a small upward trend with yesterday reporting the second highest numbers since roll-out.

Link: NHS website hit by technical problems amid rush to book booster jabs | The Independent

The NHS website has been hit by technical problems amid a rush to book booster jabs as the rollout expands to all over-18s.

People struggled to book their third vaccine dose on Sunday night just as Boris Johnson repeatedly urged the nation to “get boosted now” during a televised address.

In a pre-recorded video message, the prime minister announced all adults in the UK would offered a booster before the end of the month in a bid to fend of a “tidal wave” of the omicron variant. Over-18s in England will be able to book their booster online from Wednesday through the NHS website as the government accelerates the rollout.

The PM’s message appeared to trigger a rush to book jabs on Sunday night, with more than 17,000 people in the online queue to secure a slot shortly after his message was broadcast.

But some people trying to book a slot to receive their third jab were met with an error message, while others were unable to get past entering their details on the NHS website. The problems began earlier in the day before Mr Johnson’s speech...

A friend of mine works in a factory and if Corona is in his house then he's not allowed to go to work. He gets paid in full providing he shows proof of the positive PCR.

Managed to get a spot on Saturday when my sister noticed that they'd opened the booster shots up early for 30-39 year olds, so I managed to sneak in for mine yesterday.

I feel very headachy and almost hungover, which considering I haven't had a drink in six months is quite the effort.

Will be crawling back to bed once I've got the weekend rush of jobs finished.

UK has the 4th highest total cases in the world, behind USA, Brazil and India

And second highest active cases in the world, behind USA

Highest new cases in the world yesterday

Is that overall, per-capita, per-test?

Booked my booster as soon as I was able, and the earliest I could get it done was NYE (6 months after 2nd dose, or whatever it was). Hours after, eligibility rules were changed to allow for earlier boosters. Am going to see if I can amend my booking to bring it forward at all.

Aaand I'm done. Happy to see a big queue outside. The poor staff were apologising for the wait but everyone was easy-going and quite happy to see so many others getting a boost.

Moderna this time. Time to wait and see what I pull in the side-effect lottery...
