We hadn't had any community infections since April. We have been living life quite close to normal. A few days ago it managed to escape from the government quarantine and now we are in total lockdown for 6 days.

Hope you've got proper PPE.

Won't be needed for a while 😫

NHS track and trace app alerted me last night, so I'm self isolating for the next 11 days!

Just general moan to tell someone

looks like we have a problem about Christmas

Wife was in the shielding group - so we are a bit sensitive about exposure

but son and daughter-in-law are expecting a baby mid December - it was an "accident" - the current youngest has delayed development - physically fine ( probably nuclear powered - never stops - cute as hell but has trouble understanding what you say) - hence is a bit of a handful but very loving and cute and stuff

so they are VERY worried about coping with a new baby as well

and we are in "ockdown - the sequel"

Wife's son has been told that they qare going to her Mum's for Christmas - which makes sense - help - support - safe space - understand what she needs

but

what do we do??

normally they would have dinner at their house and we would join them and do kid things while they did dinner things

but apparently not this year - and visiting them would mean visiting (probably) their household (which is probably OK) but also her Mum's household - who we get on well with - but also mix with their other kids (except one - for $reasons) and others

so not sure how 'safe'

but Mrs mikeprice will be really upset if she can't see the kids over Christmas - all of them - including her son and DIL

and seeing DIL's Mum and Dad would be could because we get on well with them

soooo

mix with people and possibly die (based on what odds????)

or stay at home and wave over video call and not hug kids

I see trouble brewing

Not ideal, and a very poor second, I recognise, but could you do the ‘2 Christmases’ thing this year - they go to her mums on Christmas, for reasons outlined, and then have another Christmas on Boxing Day, either at yours or theirs? Probably a non-starter, but - just a thought.

Good luck!

Christmas is going to be really hard as we always have a massive family Christmas, normally with 20+ people round for Christmas dinner then more on Boxing day and New Years. This year it will just be the 5 of us and my Mum who we have been in a bubble with from the start. My Mrs is going to particularly struggle as she has never had a Christmas without her Mum there. Best thing we can do though is not put those we love at risk. Would rather miss one Christmas with the whole family then potentially miss all Christmases with one of them.

I had to go for a test Saturday. Every winter my chest always gets messed up and I develop a cough that hangs around until March/April time. It started kicking in Thursday/Friday, I knew what it was but my oldest has OCD and was freaking out. Also while I was pretty sure I was ok I'm no doctor so better safe than sorry, etc. Anyway test comes back Sunday as negative, but I learnt that I have a much stronger gag reflex then I thought I did and also managed to give myself a nose bleed.

I was scheduled to go to Denmark for Christmas, spend it with the Mrs and her family, then come back for New Year and spend that with Mum & Stepdad (and likely stepbrothers).

Doesn't look like that one's going to happen now, which sucks, as the Mrs and I haven't seen each other since August, which sucks, but that's the sacrifice I'm willing to make for the greater good. (The grea'r good! SHUT IT!)

Shame a sizable chunk of UK aren't willing to make the same sacrifices. If they open up shopping centres and mixing bubbles for Christmas, we're going to see a big jump in cases come January :(

There's supposed to be some official statement going out today.. We'll see..

@mikeprice

To be honest it is absolutely up to MrsMike what she is prepared to do.

Seeing sons MIL isnt really that important, however well she gets on with her.

Would she be prepared to have Christmas on Boxing day (other days are available) and see son and family in YOUR home? Not perfect but a reasonable compromise.

Not seeing family on Christmas day happens normally - two of my three children are going to the other parents this year so I definitely wont see them on Christmas Day (well, covid permitting of course)

We generally don’t see extended family on Christmas Day. They’re too far away so travelling to them stopped when the eldest was born.

My Mum’s birthday is just before Christmas, so we traditionally visit her then. She won’t travel so doesn’t come to us.

My outlaws do come to us sometimes, but as they won’t even let us in their garden since June I think hell will freeze over before they want to come here.

The plan, if we’re allowed by Boris, is to head to the Peak District to see my Mum (staying in a hotel) for her birthday and to call in at the outlaws on the way to drop Christmas presents. We’re not telling them and we’re not giving them a choice. If they want to shout through the window that’s fine.

As for our children...

the eldest is living with us since transferring to the London office (not that she’s been there) and will look for new accommodation when it becomes practicable ... so I think it’s unlikely she’ll have moved out.

The youngest, who lives in London, moved in with his girlfriend at the start of of Tier 2. No idea whether he will come home or not... I could do with some notice if gf is coming too as she’s vegan.

Following confirmation of a positive Covid-19 test, one of our Year 6 classes has been sent home to isolate for two-weeks...for the third time! They only returned to school last Tuesday.

Now year 8 sent home today - so currently all of Y7 to 9 at home. Y9 back Monday, but how long before they are all home again?

No no, you're totally wrong, Nick Gibb says schools are safe as houses so that cannot possibly be true.

I'd forgotten Y10 are off too! So in fact, it might be as safe as anywhere right now as hardly anyone will be present  Edited by Ditto
