60 million positive cases now, 17 million current, deaths per day rising rapidly, doubled in about 6 weeks. Every day since the 4th of Nov has been the highest number of dead per day ever (based on 7 day moving average)

 

UK 5th highest in deaths per capita (excluding micronations), and total deaths.

 

Anyone want to start taking this seriously yet?

Difficult to believe but I know people that still think this doesnt exist....

All of London is T2 but Kent is T3. I find that somewhat surprising.

 

We in Kent are not surprised. While most of us are OK in a T2 way, north Kent isn’t, particularly Thanet and Sheppey/Swale. Boris made it clear the whole county would be counted as one area.

Not that that's stopped the Daily Mail having a whinge this morning on the basis of one small village in Kent not having any deaths yet! Presumably they want the tiering to apply to regions on the hamlet level until they're so small they're meaningless

Somebody I know quoted covid stats for a part of Kent near us as being extremely high. The population of said area is circa 4000. It doesn’t take many people to get sick to put the covid rate through the roof when you look at such a small geographical area [emoji849]

I think that was the point the generic politician guy was trying to make on the BBC this morning, that breaking the country into even smaller areas both creates additional work and makes the statistics pretty meaningless. That and "you've got to draw the line somewhere" and the LG level makes a lot of sense logistically.

One if the interviews I heard this morning answering questions from listeners seemed to have it about right.

 

Question: I would like to do $thing_that_stretches_the_letter_of_the_law. Will I get in trouble?

 

Answer: I think you'd probably get away with it, but you should ask yourself

1) If you were stopped by the police and asked to justify yourself, would it make you feel uncomfortable?*

 

2) If the person you visited catches Covid and is unwell or passes it on to their granny, how would you feel?

 

If there was still no light at the end of the tunnel, I might come to a different conclusion. My parents phoned me today to say they've decided they will spend Christmas by themselves. They should both be vaccinated by February and then I can see them whenever I want, whatever the law might say.

 

My partner's mother is by herself; she is already "bubbled" with us, but if she wasn't I might well make a different decision compared to my parents who are happy with each others company for Christmas Day.

 

The law isn't really the important thing here. People just need to really think. And think about whether they can wait a few weeks.

I agree with what @jmak says

 

BUT few of us will be without regrets at not seeing family at Christmas. Some will be depressed, some angry and some overjoyed If it helps to unload in this thread then go ahead... that’s what we’re here for. I’m not judging anyone finding the current restrictions hard to cope with especially when it comes to family

I think that is the point

 

rather than just thinking I WANT you need to think about what is right - what impact it COULD have on other people

 

and remember that this is just for this year

 

maybe celebrate something else with the whole family later in the year when everyone has had a chance to have a vaccine

 

too many people are either doing things because they want to and can get away with it

or doing whatever they want because they don't think they will get anything and not caring about anyone else

 

 

However, even though the comments in the Liverpool Echo are horrendously bad - the fact that the rates are coming down suggests that the majority of people are actually taking notice and behaving reasonably responsibly

Drinkers in tier two areas of England could order a Scotch egg with their pint to keep in line with post-lockdown rules, a cabinet minister has said.

 

Under new restrictions from Wednesday, pubs in those high risk areas can only open if they function as a restaurant.

 

And alcohol can only be served as part of a "substantial meal".

 

Environment Secretary George Eustice told LBC Radio that Scotch eggs would constitute such a meal "if there were table service".

 

Pubs and restaurants are currently closed across England, apart from for takeaways...

OK, heard from my Dad's carer last night and he recently had a visit from the doctor who has started to make noises about thinking about residential and completing a TEP Form on his behalf (basically a "let him go if it's going to involve the sort of treatments that are likely to cause pain/distress and not necessarily extend life in case of something like a heart attack"). We're all pretty sure that he will not do well if forced into residential and so Xmas may be the last chance to see him before he goes too far - though of course it might not be!

 

So, for those that have made sense of the guidelines, AFAICT I should be OK to do this as it's basically just him at his house. However, I think this would mean that Bonus Daughter #1, fiancé + The Holy Grandchild would then have to choose between her mum or her fiancé's family at Christmas as my household + Dad + BD1 household makes the max of 3.

 

Thoughts/advice?

I don't know if this is a definite but doesn't it work that 1 person living alone can create a support bubble with you to create 1 household - so in this case do you count that as one household when working out the Christmas numbers (ie 3 households)?
