Davit2005 Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Went down ASDA lunchtime, normally in there at 7am but because of work commitments had to go later. It's amazing the amount of people not wearing masks (about 35% of shoppers) and walking the wrong way down Isles (about 20%) there have been isle markings since beginning of lockdown in that store. Saw one family with a youngster probably around 7/8 looking down at the arrow with a puzzled look obviously wanting to say something. And another youngster with a parent not wearing a mask look at me as if to say why?

And another youngster with a parent not wearing a mask look at me as if to say why? To be fair, face coverings aren't a legal requirement until the 24th, and not many Primary Schools will be using masks. I'm surprised that 65% have masks! Last time I went shopping (Friday) I'd say only about 5% had masks. As for the aisles; that's never worked in our Tesco. I believe they've given up as a chain. It doesn't help that our one has very poor aisle design anyway. 1
jthompson Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 It was much higher than 35% here when I went to a couple of supermarkets earlier this week. I'd have said about 80% weren't wearing any face covering. Social distancing etiquette had noticably fallen off a cliff, too. That sense of peril has gone and I wonder whether it will even return if cases tick upwards again later in the year. 1
mikeprice Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 I went to Tesco today and there were only a few people with a mask (probably 20%) but the time before at least half of the people had a mask - and the age range was different - more older people however, I do tend to find that it is normally non-old people who are most likely to be wearing a mask - lots of clearly old people wander around with no mask and taking up a whole aisle by walking side by side with the trolley at an angle They tend to leave a small gap and look confused when I just stand there and wait for them to move on as I won;t go within 2m of them The people with masks tend to be younger and more aware of what they are supposed to be doing people are weird Oh - and yes - Tesco have given up on the arrows thing - although it generally did work in my local store - I believe that other stores had more of a problem - niece (who is 17 - it's her first job) had the job of trying to make people follow the arrows for a while (along with other staff) - she ended up in tears one day due to the abuse she got from some people in her local store Fortunately the manager took her off to the rest area and got her a drink and made sure she was OK before she went onto the shop floor again in a different area Apparently old staff members, especially men, had less of a problem but older people were not prepared to be advised by a 17 year old female with red hair Personally they are damn lucky she had matured a lot over the last year or so - she would he thumped them a while ago (annoying red haired women can be a brave thing to do - as we know!!) They have also abandoned queues to get in as far as I can see - although they still have cleaning facilities near the door - and hand sanitiser
sigma Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 I went to Tesco - smallish branch on Tuesday evening. Not that many in masks but not busy either. Generally good etiquette as we stepped aside from each other and stood back to let others pass. Waitrose still has announcements to remind about social distancing. I’m braving a hair cut next week but confess to abject fear if I think about it.
Norphy Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 I’ve not had to queue to get into my usual branch of Sainsbury’s for at least six weeks. There’s usually someone at the door counting the people going in and out so there must still be a limit on the amount of people they’re letting in. Whether that means that limit has increased or that fewer people are going shopping at a particular point, I don’t know. Could well be either, I think a large part of people queuing was because of the panic buying and scarcity of stuff. They never had a one way system or anything like that so that doesn’t apply. I got my hair cut last week, on the Monday after the restriction was lifted. I booked my appointment at barber, sat down in my PPE and got my hair cut. Oh, the relief. I no longer look like Neil the Hippy, more like Mike the Cool Person. Off topic, all through this pandemic, I’ve been hearing about PPE and I still associate the term with building sites. The thought of doctors and nurses going into work in a high vis jacket, a hard hat and steel toe capped boots still makes me laugh a bit. 1

True, I've always used PPE for dusting out computers Gloves - Face Mask - Earplugs - Eye protection - Clothes protector - This is other people's skin amongst other things, I don't want to breathe that crap in. The mains air duster makes a racket when using it. The rest is for skin protection etc.

I know I shouldn't, but I can't help but smile at the idea of a feisty red-head thumping non-compliant people in to place - sort of feels perfectly acceptable, if to quote a long term friend of mine, "we put the thin veneer of civilisation to one side".

Cool person in The Young Ones, they are all cool :-) . Got in the habit of cutting my own hair now and may never go back to barbers just too much hassle taking day off work etc. Getting older so not too bothered now anyway, won't mind when it all goes :-).
stevejp Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Getting older so not too bothered now anyway, won't mind when it all goes :-). The trouble is, at least if my experience is anything to go by, it doesn’t just ‘all go’ - which leaves the bits that are left looking even more ridiculous if they are left to get long! Was so glad to get mine cut - much longer and I’ve have had to have bought a surfboard!
6Foot2 Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Me at Tesco today. I have to say there weren't many other masks in use. I know it's not mandatory yet but what's the problem with complying early (AND, BTW, NOT WALKING IN FRONT OF ME FAR TOO CLOSE!) (AGAIN!) 1
Ditto Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 If you are wondering where your glasses are, let me know, I've tracked them down 1
6Foot2 Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 If you are wondering where your glasses are, let me know, I've tracked them down Nah, that's OK. That's their regular 'perch' However they do look a bit lost in the beard!
Ditto Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Anyone else following the .GOV data? It's too early to judge, but I just wonder if we are at the low point in terms of numbers, but are there just a couple of hints of a possible upturn or is it just statistical variation? I guess we'll know in another week or two. On the new Gov site, the hospital admissions data seems not to be have been updated since 9th July, so that's a key piece missing from the picture.
6Foot2 Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 NOTE: Not a political post: No political replies are expected, nor are they invited. The second, slower, 'post-mission' obstacle roll. 1

I've not been following the gov data, but I occasionally check https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html, which also looks like we could be at the start of an up-tick in daily cases. Hopefully it's a blip and wont come to anything.
Steve21 Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 On the new Gov site, the hospital admissions data seems not to be have been updated since 9th July, so that's a key piece missing from the picture. That's because Scotland report it on a weekly basis, so it's always a week behind if you have whole UK showing Change it to England (or W/I, but assuming England is the point you wanted) and it'll show the updated figures Steve

mikeprice Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Me at Tesco today. I have to say there weren't many other masks in use. I know it's not mandatory yet but what's the problem with complying early (AND, BTW, NOT WALKING IN FRONT OF ME FAR TOO CLOSE!) (AGAIN!) I find it is VERY variable - sometime there will be 50% of people with masks - sometimes more like 10% did nip into a local co-op yesterday and I think I was the only person with a mask - OK there were only about 6-7 other people but anyway Having said whih - when I started wearing a mask some people seem to give me more room with is another advantage of wearing one naturally 'some other people' still act like everything is normal 0 and if I am stopped waiting for an aisle to clear they just almost push past!!!
LeMarchand Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 On my weekly shop on Friday there were fewer people than normal wearing masks.
Arthur Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Coronavirus: England's test and trace programme 'breaks GDPR data law' Privacy campaigners say England's test and trace programme has broken a key data protection law. The Department of Health has conceded that the initiative to trace contacts of people infected with Covid-19 was launched without carrying out an assessment of its impact on privacy. The Open Rights Group (ORG) says the admission means the initiative has been unlawful since it began on 28 May. It involves people being asked to share sensitive personal information. This can include: their name, date of birth and postcode who they live with places they recently visited names and contact details of people they have recently been in close contact with, including sexual partners. The Department of Health and Social Care says there was no evidence of data being used in an unlawful way.
Garacesh Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Coronavirus: England's test and trace programme 'breaks GDPR data law' For once, I'm actually inclined to say "For the greater good", but I know that's not a good precedent to set..

Ditto Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 ICO site under legitimate benefits it says - "The legitimate interests can be your own interests or the interests of third parties. They can include commercial interests, individual interests or broader societal benefits." In the current circumstances, I think societal benefits, however, I don't think this should mean the general exemption from good data management practices and stories of the data being mis-used should be challenged.
