Is the announcement about schools expected to be today?

I was told that the announcement today would inform SLT as to when the school would be expected to reopen. I think they're updating the 'R number' today and all the advice kind-of forwards from there (as long as it's still below 1 we carry on with the plans to open to some students).

We even have a staff protocol thingy that we have to sign. But as the document you are agreeing to doesnt mention me - how to contact me, how to behave around me when I come into your room to turn on the whiteboard etc - not quite sure if I should sign or not

 

I think you've got your words in the wrong order. Last sentence should read:

 

Quite sure I should not sign.

How do you tell a contact tracer from a scammer?

 

A journalist from the Sunday Express asks how will people know they are getting a genuine call from a contact tracer, not a scammer.

 

Dowden says "we've done a lot of work leading up to this".

 

Van-Tam says it has been "really carefully considered" by the test and trace system, but says he doesn't have the details.

 

He adds it would become apparent quite quickly that it was a professional contact tracer talking, saying: "I don't think people are going to fall for this."

The government has told schools to reopen for certain year groups from 1 June. But what does it mean in practical terms for schools - and how are they getting ready? We spoke to one head teacher to find out.

 

"It's like doing a jigsaw puzzle where all the pieces are green."

 

That is how Debbie Whiting, head teacher of North Denes Primary School in Norfolk, describes the task in front of her - remodelling her school during a pandemic so that three classes can return next month.

 

"The more you look at things, the more there is to think about," she says.

 

Classrooms have been stripped out, new signage put up around the school and year groups divided into small "bubbles" to keep pupils away from each other and - it is hoped - minimise the risk of coronavirus spreading.

 

The school in Great Yarmouth already knows it will not be ready to reopen for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 classes on 1 June, and is instead working to a deadline of 8 June.

 

This summer the school should have been preparing to move into its new £9m buildings, but construction delays mean all focus is now on making the existing school safe for returning pupils.

 

"The 1 June date might be convenient for being after half-term but it's not given us anything like the time we need to put things in place," says Mrs Whiting.

 

"It's really difficult. You just keep thinking, have we caught everything?"...

My wife's son went for a drive with his wife and our grandkids as he needed to check his eyesight before work in the local hospital tomorrow. As he was feeling dodgy he stopped off at our house - luckily we had loads of burgers, buns, sausages, rolls and ketchup . After a couple of hours he had recovered enoughto be back in theatres/ITU tomorrow - but to check he drove the family back home

Lucky we were just in the right place when his eyesight went wobbly - foresight from me when I bought this house 5 years ago

N.B - first time we have seen them for 2 months - wife has to shield but whatever - I'll just put 'death by grandkids' on the death certificate - or death by smiling and hugs

 

 

p.s. - especially to 'anyone who has new grandkids'

 

you need to keep in practise - they are damn exhausting if you don;t keep up to speed

 

at the worst possible time

also - you probably need to be young

 

 

note to anyone with no - or only one - kids

 

if you have several kids - the number of grand-kids tend to increase exponentially

 

plan ahead - only children are the way to go!!!

This question was asked in Sunday's briefing too, by a member of the public. "If we receive a call, how do we know it's genuine". The answer from Jenny Harries was along the lines of "our callers are very professional and it will become apparent that it's genuine". That doesn't actually address the question. If you receive a hoax call, how can you determine that it's a hoax? You'd think there could be some kind of online verification service, or a number that people can ring to confirm details of any mesures that they need to follow.

If you do receive a call - surely you can only give the names of people you KNOW you have been in contact with? And if for whatever reason you have been breaking the rules - even a little bit - maybe meeting one more person than you should, are you going to admit it?

As for "people will self-isolate if asked"

Some people who cannot afford to have even a week on sick pay only may well not do so. There won't be enough police to go around knocking on doors to check

It was a really poo answer - government or their representatives need a better answer.

 

I'm going to need something like a case reference number and then a phone number that's published on government ads, posters and websites that I can call back. Although I won't need one because I'm not going closer than 2m to anyone outside my household at all, never mind for more than 15 minutes.

 

Unless they're trying to close down workplaces that aren't adhering to the social distancing rules (cough - schools - cough)

Surely to be safe under GDPR I should call the people I've been in contact with to get permission to pass their contact information to the contact trace team (so the the CT team can call them and warn them I might be infected)?

I think this especially true if they aren't themselves feeling unwell. For lots of people, the peril has evaporated.

That sound like a good idea, have you considered a career in government maybe working for dominic ? :)

I think it's possible to spoof phone numbers so hang up and call back on a different phone to official number with case ref would work but maybe

too complicated for some ?

Am I right in thinking that 119 is a coronavirus-specific number to ring? Maybe some kind of verification via that would make sense, perhaps ring up at any point to review the details of your particular case (if any).

Housemate's in a call centre, CAPITA have given them PC's + peripherals to work from. That's fair, monitor that all you like (no idea if they are, though. I'm pretty sure the PC just runs Citrix and VPN's in).

If they wanted him to install monitoring software and use his own personal PC he'd be kicking up a stink.

There'd be no way I'd install any monitoring software on a personal PC I' potentially use for banking etc. And the idea of a company using key logging software is out of the question.

 

We got asked to monitor Securus reports in my first IT support role but my IT manager refused and rightly so, that should not be a job for IT support INMO.
