Network Manager Pay

£35k here. I work in a school in London, 700 pupils, around 400 clients. Mixed windows/mac environment. Bear in mind however I was the only IT person in the whole school when I was appointed and that remained the case for 2 years until recently when I have managed to get one other technician in. I am heavily involved in project management and consultation on new buildings etc as well as in charge of the IT budgets and all IT procurement etc. Even having said that it would appear to be rather a lot compared to what I have read on here

Does that include London weighting? ie. an extra few grand coz it's in London?

im ok just over 18K in a secondary school, team of 3 (im not a nm) 1400 kids look after iwb, projectors, printers ,etc RESTTING PASSWORDS and everything else for the work we do i dont feel i get paid enough would i be wrong in this

None of us feel we get paid enough, however, if you're not a NM, then I guess you are just an IT Technician and as such £18k is probably about average. I would expect more in London, but in the Midlands, I think this is not far off average, for a senior tech, I think you would expect to be looking at around £20k ish.

In hampshire the network managers are on about 25k as a starting salary some negotiated more but the simple answer is IT pay in education is lower than industry.

I'm in Sefton (Liverpool area) and on £12.5k for term time plus 10 days. My job title is ICT Technician but I'm the only full-time IT person in the school (excluding teaching staff) and I have full control over admin and curriculum networks (200+ workstations, 6 servers) but pretty much zero control over any of the IT budgets... does that make me a network manager? I have to look after the projectors too and I'm also supposed to be going on a PAT testing course later this month, which, as someone who isn't at all scientifically minded and doesn't have a clue with electrical stuff, I'm dreading

Did an internal course years ago at a college, three or four of us are getting trained again at my current place.

Yes, but I think london weighting is around £2-3,000 something like that...

Not bad. Pretty much the same I imagine as most grad job starting wages I have seen about. Better than an NQT wage or similar at least. Probably stuffed tho at the top of ur pay scale though.

actually not at the top, can go up to 25K which i think for ICT Technician is pretty good, the NM at my school is on 27,5K at the moment and can go up to 29K.

Network Manager pay should be £28K+, you can look on any IT job board and most positions mostly around London are earning this type of money, but the same job working commercially and not in a school environment should be £35K+ Schools pay very poorly ! Sickening !

On 18.5k here, same as my colleague. We are both senior network technicians that have a responsibility to manage and maintain the entire school network of 11 servers, 350 desktops, 300 laptops. The school claims that they have never had a "network manager" as such but yet we are expected to do a network managers job.

I agree with you about the NM pay, I feel that should be £30K+, 23K for Technician is not to bad considering the extras we have with the job: 6 weeks holiday + bank holidays + Christmas Holiday, free lunches, late start and early finishing over half terms (9-3:30).

On 16k in cumbria, as a technician. Have been for 2 years. Gets on my nerves seeing other people gettin wage increases for "saftey inspector" when they actually do jack all!

There is a job opening at a secondary in Derbyshire for a network manager position in a Maths / Computing specialist school and I'm curious what people think it should pay. Facility wise:

 

Just over 800 computers (~ 550 laptops, 250 base units). All staff have their own laptop

15 servers

Promethean activboards in 95% of teaching classrooms (~50-55)

Wireless access points in 95% of teaching classrooms

The usual with regard to switches / printers.

Responsible for 3 technicians (2 general technicians, 1 audio/video technician)

 

... and all the other stuff that goes with it (staff training, managing SIMS etc)

 

Any advice would be useful.

Typically in derbyshire that post would be in the Scale 6/SO1-SO2 region. I would expect SO1/SO2 but some might try to start it on Scale 6.

I love point 26 on Scale 6 - £22,001, yes £1! WOW! That £1 will pay for soooo much in this day and age won't it!

I'm about to start the last week of my current job as the only IT tech at my school (working term time plus 10 days) on £13k. For my replacement, they've advertised for a Network Manager working full time for £22k-£26k. Even taking into account the loss of school holidays, I'm pretty sure the new person will still be earning more than I was on, despite what my manager and the head tried to tell me - I worked it out to be at least £4k more, although my maths may be off!

 

I don't really want to kick up a fuss about the situation, but I'm not at all happy about it either... particularly when we were PAT trained and expected to test all the appliances in the school, and my replacement probably won't have that expectation placed on them.

help with bsf documentation, train some staff, propose strategies to more the school forward

manage all instalations

brought in new backup systems replaced every server in the place and really trying to modernise it.

from what i have been reading im guessing im on the lower scale for my job role>?
