  1. great news! will keep a look out for the email
  2. That death star looks epic, too late to enter comp?!?
  3. C:\users\public\Documents\hyper-v\replication\ on one of my systems, the other I just manually created e:\replication and pointed it to it under 'authorization and storage'. For completion I use kerberos
  4. Hi, I managed to recreate the issue on my vms by removing the folder 'replication' on one of the servers. If you check the path for stored replication harddrives has the folder 'replication' been created already?
  5. Hi, sometimes my system gets stuck if I don't run gpupdate /force on both machines, no idea why this is the case. The other things to check is that the storage space has been configured correctly for where the replication harddrives are to be stored. this will usually be different then the usual hyper-v drives are stored.
  6. I know this will seem odd but try running gpupdate /force on both servers then try again, works for me
  7. Hi all, We use Sims FMS and as part of that the equipment register module. Our Finance guy uses this to calculate depreciation on a yearly basis however after a recent audit things have gone wrong and there must (hope) be a simple fix and the issues must have happened to others. For those who know the software there was a 'reverse last run' performed which was fine however when trying to run the depreciation again the dates are incorrect so it will not work- the 'next depreciation run from-to' fields are non editable from what I can see and as the dates are incorrect in the auto populated fields so we are stuck. Contacted our mis support and they have asked for us to upload the fms database to see whats up but im hoping someone else has had and found a fix for this issue already. Any advice is always appreciated!
  8. Its essentially just a 'tick box' task. We have some cases of students smashing monitors and their parents saying "why should we pay for the damage when did you tell my child they couldent break stupid school monitors that are c**p anyway" -well in the AUP it states... Its amazing how many times we have refered back to that one document -for staff as well! Do agree its odd other docs dont have this as well, maybe because teachers assume its obvious you shouldent punch a child but not so obvious you shouldent punch a monitor (with IT being comparativly new compared to social expected behaviour?).
  9. we find that we just turn down the mp count because they quickly fill up their private drives and the common drive with massive mb images, all they do is use the images for powerpoints and viewing on the monitors so no more then 4mp is needed. We just get cheap refurbs fom ebay as it takes about a week for them to destroy them! Long as its sd card thats fine as we buy the teachers cheap (£1-2) sd card usb readers
  10. I was under the impression you can have a difference of 15 mins tolerance before server and client get upset, so i always change it by less then this and havent had a problem so far with a windows server based domain (2003/2008)
  11. Many thanks for the ideas Ill check them all out and report back!
  12. Hi all, dont suppose anyone has come accross this issue before? SIMS allows information to be input and stored where both parents of a child are not residing at the same address but when correspondence is to be issued to both parents (therefore 2 sets of information such as reports are required to be posted out by the school - one to the mother at one address and one to the father at another address) there doesnt seem to be a way of automatically doing this. So for example if absence letters are required mail merging will ony print off to the primary parent and currently staff use a printed wall chart to highlight which parents need extra letters to parents/guardians at different addresses. It can get complex with some students living arrangements. This information is input within the section of 'Family/Home' under the contacts section but I am unable to locate a report which will identify those students which this applies to so that they can be included on the mail merge address print outs. Anyone had similar issues? Any ideas welcome, thanks!
  13. Interesting! Always good to get a feel for what's going on. Seems most people are in the same boat. I am aware of one school that pays 7k extra for esafe duties to its network manager but that sounds more like the exception rather then the rule. Thanks to everyone so far for sharing the information!
  14. Hi everyone, just wanted to get some opinions on the role of e-safety officer/co-ordinator the school i work at just created this role to have an individual improve our overall e-safety and i took on this role in addition to my Network Manager duties (attend all training, policy creation, logging of incidents and staff/parent tutorial sessions etc) Just wondering how other schools grade this role either for teachers or support staff. I know the child protection officer role carries a significant bonus on wage but i have been informed i will recieve nothing (not even extra time) to perform the role of e-safe officer as its 'network safety' and therefore my responsibility anyway? any information on this role in your workplace would be appriciated.

    Equal Pay

I have a horrible feeling then that my school has messed up because they were rushing the details through, and if what people have said on here is anything to go by the pay rise i had to fight for could be invain. If othe people at least had network manager job descriptions to work from why couldent my liverpool based school get them?! ill let you know how it goes....im dusting off my c.v just incase

    Equal Pay

We have just had the job eval, but the three options i had to choose from were tec level 1-2-3, no mention of management of even half of what i do as a network manager. This has me concerned, i did ask for more relevant job specs to be handed down but i was told they were what the LEA provided i had to match my job best i could! so even if they say closest match is tec level 3 that cant be good (currently on p01/p02). doesnt seem right and the specs looked like Science tec roles not IT tec roles, looks like someone doesnt know the difference...

  18. @dezt Im in the Liverpool area, scale 5 as i was on is stupidly low wage for a network manager, there are standard tecnicians on more then that in lots of areas, go for a review and good luck!
  19. ah i see, dident even know about that, as long as they equal the pay based on an average then i would hope it would go up again, something to keep an eye on thankyou
  20. hi cookie_monster, sorry not up with all the terms yet, what is the single status review (tried google -something to do with equal pay?), as far as i am aware all the information i presented about comparative pay in this sector was dismissed as it varies so much, as was extra resonsibility -which was already covered in job spec. I am under the impression it was for retaining my services that the regrade was awarded. Of course i may never know the full facts and reasoning behind it.
  21. Just to follow up as promiced, pay review finally completed now moved on to p01 29k
  22. Just to lean towards regional differences again, anyone in the morth west specifically liverpool area care to post their pay scale? It might help in my review if i can give more area specific pay rates :0) Oh an to pick up on doing the job as a hobby thing is one of my pet hates in work, (i totally understand this is the case for some people and thats fine) but when a staff member assumes im doing this job because its my hobby and i like 'playing with computer bits', and its said in a way that puts down the role. I think why did i spend all those years getting more qualified then the person making the assumption for them to think im doing this job for fun. (remember its said in a put down tone) Now i am making a difference between enjoying the job -which i do/being 'in to computers' and the assumption you get from some people that the only reason you are doing it is because were some how incapable of doing a real job. I dont know maybe it was just a couple of staff but i do think eitherway most peoples perception of trained I.T staff is not really of mutual respect and they dont understand the role.
  23. some very good points so far, especially about people taking jobs that pay so low in the first place. For me it was implied that there was room for some increase down the line, that now appears not to be the case-not like i can get promoted anyway, however i though it was more important to get experience in a school at management level which im sure is why most people go for these jobs in the first place. I did alot of training since working here got my bcs chartered and mcts from microsoft on top of my degree and am now in a situation where i have the quals and experiance to move but would like to stay if the school(s) had a realistic wage. I can see it being an endless cycle of people taking the role for experience getting trained up and leaving quickly and that is a shame. Anther problem rightly pointed out is the lack of knowlege people have about the jobs we do, they have no idea that if everything is working its due to hours of work and not because 'stuff' hasent broken. This is what i believe most people believe...you dont do anything until is breaks! Also they seem to forget its a highly skilled job, dont want to have a go too much at teachers because its not their fault they dont know (after all they dident choose i.t) but i have tried very hard to educate them in just what it is we do so they can apriciate just how much work goes in to things. after reading this thread it makes me realise even more just how underpaid my possition is, all those years of study and extra qualifications to get paid less then a nqt. I am applying for a pay rise- although not sure how much to ask for yet, if they say no then at least i can look for a new job safe in the knowledge i have maxed out this possition. ill post back if i get it......
