Hi All So i am doing so R+D for Windows 10 with our standard build Windows 2012 R2 system with a few tweaks (GPO's) to accommodate Windows 10. Managed to get the new v5 Profiles and Start menu sorted, pretty easily using the same methods to 8.1. Unfortunately i have found the the initial login times are horrific (2-3 minutes). Runs through all GPO's nicely in around 10 seconds then gettings stuck "Preparing Windows" (after re-enabling the Animation i found it was still trying to install Apps). I have got 2 builds that i have tested over the weekend, One Enterprise with all non essential apps removed and an LTSB 32bit build. Both of which have the same problem. I had a similar problem with 8.1 removing all apps resolved this but hasn't had the effect here This isnt so much of a major issue for staff who us local profiles and folder redirection for all but the appdata so 2nd logins are 10-15 seconds. But Student profiles are roaming and GPO's are set to remove roaming cached profiles after log out to save disk space. Therefore everytime a student account logs in it can take 2-3 minutes. I have tested without the mandatory profile and i get the same initial login but obviously a much faster login from there on out as i would expect. I have been looking over forums for the past day with people saying 30-40 seconds seems to be the norm, just trying to work out what i am missing? Not sure if its a GPO setting or similar? Just hoping someone else has come across this and got over it. Thanks Jack

Hi First of i am complete Mac novice, i have very basic mac knowledge and just wanted to know if this is possible I have just taken over the IT Support of a primary school with has roughly 60+ iOS Devices and a Mac Server We also have around 100+ Student Machines Bascially we have some mac share done by dropbox but i would really like to use the mac server more and host them on there. We have one for iPad and one for iPods What i want to achieve (and know if possible) basically have the same setup as currently. 2 shares which i have setup on the Mac which are mapped via GPO without the need for setting a username and password eg/ they use there standard windows login, as they would on a Windows server. To access and map the share. This works okay for setting the user as macserver\administrator but it runs into issue when trying to map the drives on more than 2 machines The access to the shares on the iOS devices will be done via the File Explorer App The mac is Mavericks and server 3.0 Cheers

I applied this today but on 7 out of the 20 laptops it still just tries to do the full documents not administravtely assinged which is flaming annoying as on the other 13 it works fine I have adjusted everything and put it back again to try and see what it could be but nothing worked Any ideas

Hi i over the last few hours I have setup Hyper V replication at one of my primary's using there old server as a DR server our core VS (8-core intel Xeon, 24 GB ram) is in KS2 the backup (replica) server (2x Intel Xeon processors, 8GB RAM) is in KS1 down the other end of the school i have now got them successfully replicating via certificate I have done test failovers on a test vm and it has worked perfectly but, when I do a planned failover when it gets to reversing replication direction it just hangs....and hangs.....and hangs. In the end I have just given up on it after an hour of waiting, any idea. I have looked around and it should be pretty instant. The VM's is tiny I'm testing on just 8GB. In addition to this, I would like to here from people who are also using hyper v replication at primary and secondary level. I am planning to do replication on our DC and SIMS VM's, will there be any issues with the sims replication due to SQL?? Thanks jack

Just wanted to pop a quick question which is confusing the hell out of me when I try to attach anything on a new email it opens the default location in the explorer windows as C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 14 instead of the user H Drive (Documents) I have spent 40 minutes tralling forums and searching through the registry but cant find anything that worked Anyone got any idea or come across this issue before??

Documents were already re-directed so there is no issues there. Just the Desktop i think the max i have found in the profiles is around 2GB and our wireless is pretty beefy so should be fine. i highly doubt that favourites will take up more than 10MB if that

Sorry i was testing with Blocked Inheritence OU's after i remvoed the All user policy which has the folder redirection for Documents it worked fine. I have now set it in the same policy as the Desktop and Favourites redirection and seems to work fine Thanks for your help will be testing it with a member of staff on Wednesday

Cool I have setup the Policy and the locations but it still seems to be only syncing all the documents I cant see a GPO to turn off automatically making offline redirected folders It was working for one login then gpupdated as a test and then went again any ideas, probably me just being thick??

Also when i enable Redirection of Desktop and Favourites will it automatically copy over the local desktop and Favourties contents??

Thats brillaint thanks I will start setting up the GPO give it to our IT Co-ordinator to Test Direct access is something i have just started looking at, it is used by the staff out our local council. We do around 60 Primary Schools in our area as a company and 90% of them use TSGW currently i would like to start trialing it but not sure if it is suitable for the smaller schools and what the reliability of it is like??

Hi I just wanted to put a quick question to everyone and see if my vision is feasible I have taken of IT Support for a school We have around 20 Staff laptops which unfortunately have been setup with Profiles (not the way i like to do it) Offline Files is disabled as it is a pain and staff access there shares etc via a TSGW. Basically, when they delete things on the TSGW desktops on their profiles it doesn't reflect when they log back into their machines, i suspect because of the local profiles on the laptops. Also it take ages for staff to log on on different machines My hope was, if possible. To remove Staff profiles and instead setup folder re-direction to their H Drive for Desktop and Favorites along with there current documents etc. The question is, is there a way to enable JUST offline files on the Desktop Folder in everyone's H Drive?? I have noticed issues when we do setup re-directed desktops in another school when staff get home they only have a black desktop. I don't want anything else to be available in their H Drive just their Desktop so they can get into the TSGW Icon easily Any opinions would be much appreciated Kind Regards Jack

Hi I was wondering if there was a way to change the background when MDT is doing the Post - Install part of the task sequence?? I have a very professional one for the boot image but I feel it would look just that bit better if it could continue to the post install stage of apps and updates, is this possible?? Basically i have setup my Deployment Share with 2 seperate task sequences one for Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit and one for 64bit both also have their own driver folder x86 and x64 respectively which they point to Bascially this is the only manual process (apart from name and OU which i want to keep manual) which i want to automate What i am trying to do is basically get MDT to query the amount of RAM that the machine currently has from the BIOS etc and point it to either 32bit if 3.5GB RAM or lower / 64bit task sequence if 4GB +??
