Paul_L Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 As per the title! I think it is, your thoughts would be most grateful Paul
Dos_Box Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Show them a 120GB SSD and thell them that this is what goes into a lot of computers these days, for everything!
Paul_L Posted November 25, 2019 Author Posted November 25, 2019 Show them a 120GB SSD and thell them that this is what goes into a lot of computers these days, for everything! You have hit the nail on the head there, 240GB SSD and struggling to sync off-line files!!!!
smurfomatic Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Does seem excessive. We only have one staff profile of that size, and that's the Art teacher who has lots of high resolution image files for his various projects. 1
rad Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Upload it to your cloud based service, whether it is OneDrive or Google Drive and remove from the network
ITGURU Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Why so huge? Have you ran a foldersize to see what it is in the profile. Use folder redirection. I'm surprised the user doesnt complain its slow to login.
strawberry Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Yes. No profile should be that big. Redirected folders or cloud storage if the files are actually needed. Else recode the media , remove duplicates and move to the right storage media.
FishCustard Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 YES. That's insane. Several orders of magnitude too large. Redirect folders to network shares and nobody needs profiles over a few MB.
gmonks Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Yeah, that's pretty big. Personal photo and music collections being stored?
Paul_L Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Thanks everyone, sorry not replied sooner. Not wanting to go into to much detail, but a number of you have hit on all the right assumptions!!! Will be having words and sorting it out!! Many Thanks Paul
DrBeaker Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Yes Profile - Yes, definitely. User area/network drives - For one teacher, Yes I'd agree
BlueSkies Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Do you know what they are harbouring that is taking up that much room? I have used the script here to check profile folders in the past: https://community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show/1738-get-foldersizes 1
thimon Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Only guessing here, very large Downloads folder? You could have a logon / logoff script that clears the folder each time. Edit: Just had a look, I've got a 25GB Downloads folder. Whoops! 1
jthompson Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Look for: Massive video files (high resolution high bitrate recordings dumped from a video camera or phone). Photos (dumped from a digital camera or phone). Massive PowerPoint files that contain either of the above. That can all be made more sensible through transcoding/deleting.
