Haven't appointed one yet. We're holding out until the last possible moment in the hope of forcing the Local Authority to offer the service to its maintained schools.

Some HR women in another school.. I’m being sent on a training course and in return, I’ll be that schools DPO.

Gives us both an on-site DPO knowing person and covers the law..

I’m actually pretty happy with it to be honest! Even if it is a cluster f***k of policies and paperwork..

Above my pay grade to be in the loop, but I think my heads are hoping that the LEA will provide one.

We have bought in a DPO service as a MAT, after me repeatedly saying I cannot be the DPO due to conflicts of interest. I have ended up being the liaison between the outsourced DPO and the MAT meaning I still have to do all the legwork I just have someone else marking my homework. Still not happy with this arrangement as I have a number of large IT projects on at the moment on top of carrying out all this work for GDPR. I'm hoping that when the contract fully kicks in the DPO service turns round and says no to me being the liaison. We shall see.

It's the conflict of interest bit that has driven the poll. I'm the IT Manager where I am currently, and have effectively been the DPO for several years. I can understand where the conflict of interest comes from but to just totally dismiss it seems rather "baby + bathwater". I think there are equivalent if not greater benefits in having your IT Manager as the DPO, although it depends on their current role, personality, workload etc.

We have bought in to an expensive managed service via the county outsourced provider. Not cheap but we have a named professional information manager with real world education experience and full backup. Once the dust has settled we may find a cheaper option in future.
