Fair enough. Yeah I'd be concerned about support for Facility too, it can't survive Progresso being around forever; at some point it's just gonna be too uneconomical to keep supporting it. I think you're right about modern systems opening your eyes too; Facility was a solid system, I liked it a lot, but there are many benefits in the newer stuff.

Yeah that's useful in the case of a single student, but not when you have an often ad-hoc batch of students to locate quickly. Is there a means of achieving that? Also, is there any intention for this to replace scheduling software, I.E. will you be able to write a timetable with this? Edit: also; have you tested this on windows? If so and it works are you planning on including Windows oriented installation documentation? I don't see from the components any reason it shouldn't work on windows as well as linux, so although my experience with this sort of thing is that everything is easier on Linux, my guess is you'll find at least some people will discount it on the grounds of unfamiliarity with that OS and an unwillingness to puzzle out the windows equivalent of the installation steps. Also also also; have you considered a bash/powershell script to run through installation?

What's wrong with Facility these days? I always quite liked it

I enjoy the levity of your code comments The documentation mentions re-location of lessons: https://xronos.uk/relocate.html. Is there any write-back functionality to inform the MIS of that relocation? One thing that springs immediately to mind is that there is usually a bunch of reporting in the MIS that isn't necessarily in a calendar format but nonetheless draws information about the timetable. For example you might have a "where is little johnny right this very moment" report, or a "where are the kids who've been assigned detention today having their lesson in the last period of the day" report so you can send some heavies to haul them to the detention room.

Yeah annoying isn't it. The paranoid in me says there's no commercial reason to do that and so it's likely to be something dodgy!!

Their app is garbage, it constantly drops those settings, but there's not really any reason to use it. They're just using OTP, so any OTP app will work just fine. Google authenticator for example, or Free OTP. I started switching people to one of those and we never had problems again. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fedorahosted.freeotp&hl=en_US

Is the implication that guest wifi allows them access to any kind of school data? -
Wiping staff file shares?!

We did something similar to this; we basically made staff copy over things they needed to a new network drive and just told them they could leave anything they didn't need behind. They were given dedicated time to do this; it wasn't expected they fit it in around their normal day. The network manager kept and eye out and called out the few who tried to just copy over everything. Once the deadline was reached, we made the original network drives unavailable but kept them around for a while. After some time, we went and fetched all the stuff that people had said they needed but forgotten. I left a few months ago so can't quite remember whether we'd for real deleted the drives, but certainly that was the plan. Memory is a shaky thing, but I certainly don't remember any major problems or complaints with this process. It's absolutely not a complete fix, but as a starting point that lets you cut down the amount of data you have to index to identify all the personal information I think it's pretty reasonable -

No, but you can combine as much information from as many different sources as you like into one report (I.E. one .pbix file) if that's what you want to do. -
Actually this is one of Progressos strengths. There's a good list of combinations of people connected to other people that you can email through it. Teachers of students, Tutors of students, contacts of students, students of teachers and so on. Doesn't help you anymore though obviously

Take them with a pinch of salt though; they were only accurate for a few suppliers when I looked at renewal quotes. -
How often do you hear - “Does Cloud really save money?”
djrscally replied to CloudGeek's topic in MIS Systems
Yeah if you have another site I'd go for that option too.
