Collecting Students (Yr9) Preferences
Paul_Cluett replied to Paul_Cluett's topic in Educational Software
I'm interested in how you restrict it to just students - and then get the email address added to the response. -

We haven't got that option in SIMS. Is it only the online (hosted version)? Is it any good or as complicated as the rest of SIMS? What do other people use? -
I have tried that - but it only scans when it restarts. I could put a timer switch on the POE but that seems pretty harsh. I don't know if the Cloud controller can initiate timed scans though...

How do people collect students' preferences for their subjects in Yr10/11? We use Survey Monkey because it has branching capability and waterfall of subjects (1st question has a list of subjects, 2nd has the same list but the choice of question 1 is now missing etc etc). But the obstacle we come up against is students not putting in their correct name and thus checking whether everyone has completed it. We looked at Forms; we can check names against the year group but it's too basic to use. What do other people use? Thanks

About the Unifi APs: I have 2 and set the channels by scanning using an android app. But a few days later I usually find that my neighbours have also changed channels! Is there any way to get the APs to scan and change channels automatically?

Unique Number for Students Lanyards
Paul_Cluett replied to Paul_Cluett's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. To answer a few questions: Yes, the lanyard is the strap - I used it a shorthand for the student ID card that will be attached to it. It will have a photo id, name and a number. It will probably have RFID to allow students to enter the school and also pay for their meals. The reason for the number? Many of of our our students have legal names that are different for their day-to-day names. Some Yr7 students don't even know these and further shorten or choose their own. So when forms are filled in, they can mistakenly use a name that can't be found in SIMS reports. Asking them to enter a number from their card in any form will give a key that can be used as a lookup. From reading the first few pages of the https://assets.publishing.service.go..._Guide_1.2.pdf they recommend using the Admissions number for day to day usage. Some people have said they are worried about having data on a card - my son's school has all the above. -

I've looked but can't find Person_id under design reports. -
Hi all, We want to print a unique number on each on students lanyards. We are using SIMS. The options seem to be : UPN - too long for a student to read out and be entered manually without mistakes Adno - 6 digits - seems a possible Exam Number - 4 digits - possible but could repeat over years Does anyone know which would be better and could last a few student throughputs without being duplicated? Our school has 1300 students. Thanks Paul

SIMS: Admissions: Additional info data entry
Paul_Cluett replied to Paul_Cluett's topic in MIS Systems
It looks like Google Forms is the way to go to get the initial data into SIMS, followed by Parents App to let carers keep data up to date. Can I ask what GForms can do? Can it verify correctly formatted data inputs for: Birthdays Email addresses Phone numbers (correct amount of digits) Postal Codes Can it look up Postal Codes - probably not but just a hope Does it provide the ability to create drop-down lists? e.g. Mother, Father, etc or British, French, Vietnamese etc Can you attach scans to a form e.g. Passport Thanks Paul- 11 replies

We use CTF from the LA to import new Year 7's. At the moment we use paper forms to capture among other things contact details, allergy info, permissions info etc. The issue we have (and I'm sure many others) is trying to read the forms received back and then entering the data manually into SIMS. If we had an electronic copy of all of them in Excel it would be a start and we could at least use cut-and-paste into SIMS. Has anyone created an online form for their website to replace a "paper form" for admission data? If so, how did you secure that data from being hacked? Or any other suggestions to capture the above data? Thanks Paul
