Hi When transferring the timetable from Nova I'm getting this error that I've never seen before. Anyone have any ideas and/or solutions? Many thanks

I'm hoping someone can help me to help our Learning Support people. I've been asked to find a time table creation program for them to replace an old Access database that someone from the Jurassic period created. It doesn't have to be free, but free would be nice, it does have to be "easy" to use. What their definition of easy is I didn't dare ask. I asked them to try this program called FET but I'm told it is too complicated. Suggestions please? (Avoiding if possible the obvious one of RTFM for FET)

Is there a way to set a two day rule for one class in Nova-T6? Am I correct in thinking it could be done via Period Type? That seems over complicated but I can't think of another way. If it's not easily possible it's maybe something that should be possible in the next version

I'm getting increasingly lazy and could do with a report that outputs some timetable data from SIMS so that my MediaCats can parse it and disply some info. My idea is either to have a report shdeuled to run each morning that outputs the name of the day (e.g. 1Mon or 2Mon, etc.) or to have a file containing dates and how they match up to the timetable cycle. Any ideas on how this could be achieved?

We run a two week timetable. Last year, the days appeared as Mon1, Tue1..... Mon2, Tue2, etc. The problem we have this year is that in SIMS.net the Days just appear as Mon, Tue, etc. In Nova-T they are as they were last year! I believe that this had led to the BIG problem where by the timetable will not apply correctly in SIMS.net. Every week is week one at the moment This is a big problem because the student timetables in SIMS.net appear incorrectly and the timetable export to our registration system has exported week 1 to every week. Does anyone have a clue where to change the names of the days?

Hello We have a 7 form entry in the to be year 7. One Band has 4 class the other 3. I have set it up as X having 3 and Y 4. Would it be a simple case of changing x to y on the Model process or do I have to do something more drastic ?

Hi all... Looking to see if anyone on the forum is aware of a School timetabling solution that will generate the master timetable based on a set of restrictions, and then provide for a portal to allow the student to login and build their own timetable from the master... This is a second level school dealing mainly with years 10/11/12 Regards, Brian

Hi, We are starting the process of deciding what is on our wish list for the next academic year in terms of school structure etc. and it would seem we have several questions. Background of school. School structure is we essentially run as 3 separate schools with a common sixth form. Main school (MS), super religious boys (B), and super religious girls (G). Lower school MS runs on an 8 period day (4 double slots, most lessons are doubles), with breaks every 2 periods. Lunch (between 4 and 5) is also split into first and second half of lunch. Sixth form MS runs on an up to 12 period day (8 normal + 2 lunch + 2 afterschool periods) they, however, have free periods. Lower school B runs on a 10 period day (8 normal + 2 afterschool) still in a 2/2/2/2/2 arrangement. Lower school G runs on a 10 period day (8 normal + 2 afterschool) but in a 2/3/1/2/2 arrangement with the first half of lunch defaulting to a teaching period (there are exceptions). On a Monday all hell breaks loose with the lunch period/s swapping positions and period 5 becoming like a citizenship period, shorter than the other days' P5. On a Wednesday there is an additional period between AM Reg and P1 we teach PSHE in (This time is normally assembly). SiMs in the past has just been used as a system to store the bare minimum - ideally I want to move to using it to handle everything... Timetable stuff. Does your school have a timetabled period for registration? (which lesson monitor then copies into the AM Reg?) Do you instead use lesson monitor to delegate when registration will take place (with no official period designated through Nova-T) and instead use the lesson monitor ability to override absence as late for Reg? How many lessons do you have in a day? of what length? How is your school organised, if you have a sixth form do they have different periods to others? Why? Are they just set up as a different Year or as a whole different school section on Nova-T? Do you timetable assemblies in Nova-T? Do you run a carousel of subjects? Do you have a multiple week timetable? Why? If you have extra curricula activities, such as music lessons or sporting events are they also timetabled as alternative provision lessons? Do you use automated timetabling through Nova-T?? Why? Pastoral Stuff Do you have a house based pastoral system or a head of years' system? or hybrid? why? If you run a house system, do you run your reward/sanction behaviour system tied to the houses? e.g. best house gets a reward. Any pastoral responsibilities that occur regularly (e.g. uniform duty, or patrol) are they timetabled? Misc Does your school use cover? How are teachers then notified of the cover? Does your school use exams organiser for internal exams that are not Mocks (e.g. Year 7 end of year tests) even though they are in several rooms at once? How would you organise teacher invigilation for that? How would you mark students on study leave? Is this handled somehow in Nova-T when the timetable is created? Is it done at the start of the year (or when the date of study leave is known)? Or is it left to form tutors to do it after the students are on study leave? Do you have a system whereby lessons might finish "early" but students are encouraged to do "afterschool" activities or enrichment to take you up to a normal finish time? Wow...sorry for the length, any comments are greatly appreciated!

(Not sure this is quite the right sub-forum, but it seems the best match.) For the last few years, I've been developing an Open Source (GPL) software package for schools called Scheduler. Its purpose is to provide a unified store recording all the multitudinous things happening from day to day in a given school. At first sight it looks a bit like Google Calendar, but with one major difference - it stores its event information in a structured fashion. Rather than having dozens or hundreds of different calendars as you would with Google Calendar, with Scheduler you have just the one store and then you choose what you want to see from it. It can thus store your entire academic timetable, your extra-curricular activities, homework timetable, invigilation, cover, public calendars (General, Sport, Music, Drama etc.) in one place, making it quick and easy to extract the exact information which you want, and automatically identifying clashes. It can feed personalised schedules to hand-held devices (phones etc.) for both staff and pupils. It can identify exactly who will be missing from your lessons because of a trip. It can facilitate re-location of lessons - either individually or in bulk. Scheduler doesn't aim to replace your MIS. It's solely concerned with schedule information - what is happening, where, when and with whom. It doesn't require double-entry of information - anything relevant which is already in your MIS it can extract automatically and import. It can handle data exported from SchoolBase, WCBS/Pass and iSAMS. It takes all that data and unifies it - making it far easier for staff and pupils to get just the information which they need. It tells them not what would be happening if this were a normal week, but what is actually happening this week - there's often a big difference. It is in use in a number of schools and has been very well received by the staff. "Why didn't this package exist years ago?" is a not uncommon reaction. Anyway - to the point of this post. Development is still ongoing and I'm looking for new ideas. If you can spare the time to take a look at the documentation and/or demo and come up with comments along the line of, "Yes, but why doesn't it do ...?", or "Well, it would be useful if only ..." then I would be most appreciative. Documentation is at https://xronos.uk/ Demonstration system at https://schedulerdemo.xronos.uk/ Entire source is at https://github.com/XronosSchedulingLtd/scheduler The software is free - as in both beer and speech. Thanks in advance for any feedback. John Winters (Incidentally, that initial X in Xronos should be seen as a Greek Chi character - it's pronounced Chronos.)

Hi We have recently moved over to MTT and I have created a report to show both timetables, on the one timetable for those that teach over multiple tiers. I could not create this automatically in timetables, this would only show a two different timetables. I have managed, in design report, to pull all the subjects across from both tiers and managed to generate the timetable. The only thing I can not find is how I can put NCC's onto the report. Not sure this is possible as I seemed to have pulled every possible field across to check. Does anybody have any guidance they could offer in this case. We only want one timetable showing all lessons, not several timetables... it is very frustrating. Hopeful in a response

Our curriculum year changes at the end of May, so the new timetable is currently being built. How can I restrict access to the new timetable? Staff are looking ahead to find out what their classes are, but the head wants it locked down until finalised. Our school portal is also picking up the info as it has a heartbeat with SIMS and so parents can browse ahead too... Is there any way of locking down access to the new timetable whilst maintaining access to the current one?

Hi. Having a few problems today. I worked my way through scheduling all of the bands (see pictures). I have added new members of staff. When I print off the overall timetable, the new staff have blank timetables and a lot of the KS3 lessons are missing. When I hover over the bands - I have a 'block not built' message. Have I missed a step somewhere?

An annoying problem - hoping someone has found a solution. Our exam's officer needs to close rooms - and because she knows about the exams a fair bit in advance - she will often sort out the re-rooming a few weeks in advance. But - me coping with timetable changes - often makes changes that makes her re-rooming fail. SIMS seems aware this can happen - and just suggests I tell her about every change I make, and then she double-checks her re-rooming. Are there any better solutions?

Hi All I am new to timetabling this year, first time through (and my first post on here). I am in the middle of scheduling a normal timetable (secondary with 6th form) on Nova for September. It is likely that it will be difficult to have all students on site at the same time so normal timetable is unlikely to apply in the new academic year! I would be really interested to hear what others are doing to create what some are referring to as a Covid timetable for September. I have seen some some suggestions about splitting the population from 2 into 4 to reduce numbers on site but have not seen much more than that. Be great to hear your thoughts.

Hi, Does anyone now a way of adding staff duty (break, lunch etc.) so that it displays on their timeline in SIMS .net?

Hi I'm aware there are other threads on here from a few years ago but wondered if there was any up to date opinions of timetabling software. I'm just about to take over timetabling in my school and have been dipping my hand in since next years timetable has proven to be very complicated and Nova T6 has really struggled to meet the needs of our curriculum plan. I understand it might be coming to the end of its life, but who knows when. Does anyone use other software - I've seen mention of timetabler - but previous posts mention issues with importing into Sims and manually having to do this - unless in the past few years they've improved this. Any advice greatly received in preparation for next year! Thanks

Dear all, help please before I start smoking again! I've just 'inherited' the TT job (if you know what I mean). One department has asked for a 'lesson' to be created allowing for a small minority of Y7 and 8 students to study one extra humanities lesson a week per term (1 term of history then change to extra geography then RE term 3). I've set this up as an alternative curriculum and called it Hu. This is for our Y7 and Y8 who are both split into 2, 7x/7y/8x. The new lessons are to be called 7p/7q/8p retrospectively. I've managed to create these new classes using the alternative curriculum, assigning teachers and rooms. However, when I come to transfer to SQL, I get a message stating that these lessons are 'not linked' and I have scary orange exclamation marks next to each of the classes I've allocated (such as 7p Mon period 2, 8p Tues period 3). There are 18 lessons in all, all with this 'not linked' warning. Can anyone please shed some light on this? 1. Does the alt curric need to be linked, or should I just export it into into SIMS and then allocate students to the class? 2. If it does need to be linked, how would one go about doing this? Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for your time Best wishes Damien

Hi, Is anyone able to help or point me in the right direction. I am looking at the possibility of running a single timetable across two school campuses. Has anyone got experience in setting up and running this scenario? Do they both need to have the same DFES number?
-
This might be ridiculously simple but I'm not the most competent SIMS user... We have a '2-week timetable' and what I'd like is a little message on my SIMS homepage that says something along the lines of 'This week it is Week 1'. Is this easy to do?

Hi A member of staff is experimenting with using the calendaring features of Exchange/Outlook 2003. He's put his entire two-week timetable in, and set each entry/lesson to repeat every two weeks. Unfortunately, half term happened... and now this week shows next week's lessons, and this week's lessons are showing as happening over half term (last week). Is there any way of doing a "bulk shift" or something like that to move everything along one week? Or can we modify the recurrance to take account of half terms and holidays? Thanks! Stephen

Hi, I'm currently working on next year's timetable. This is now the second timetable I have produced and the first time I've done it on my own. I've been thinking a lot about how the auto-scheduler works and how to optimise for it and I cant find any info to answer some of my ponderings. For example, obviously, a computer with a faster processor will be able to try more solutions in less time but what about multi core processors? Is Nova T programmed to take advantage of multiple cores? Does it work particularly better with any other hardware configurations than others that people are aware of? Thanks...

Sims advocate two possible methods for setting up registration periods. Either using the Sims pastoral structure (often in conjunction with a Non class code for cover purposes) or by setting up timetabled essons for registration. Interested to hear pros and cons for both methods. Also if a school sets up timetabled lessons for registration, does this mean that Lesson Monitor Setup still needs to be done or is it redundant? Thanks

Hi, I am new to Edugeek and to timetabling. I have successfully written and rolled out my first timetable. However, we have a few triple and double periods which I am struggling to assign. Errors that a frustrating me are Break "Overrun", and Clash Type: Period Mismatch I have unbuilt, unstaffed and unscheduled the block Changed the block structure from S4 to DSS in the session screen and clicked on Block, Update and Verify I have changed the breaks to soft and suspend 1pd rule I have tried to set different breaks on the cycle screen. I have played around with soft and hard, etc. I have tried to fathom previous implementations from my predecessors but am even more confused. I have tried all the help functions in SIMS and google searches but can't quite nail what I need. Double periods, which are not inturrupted by break or lunch are not a problem. So it must be the break type? Below is an example:
