Snow Spotters 2018

Been snowing since about half 12 in South East Kent.

 

Forecast says till 10pm.

We have a white out in central Birmingham. Glad we left Kent yesterday. It was only snowing when I took this

I made it home. When I normally consider 15 minutes a drive with significant delays, today it took over an hour. Not a huge problem, but I am glad I set off when I did: It looks like it's getting worse.

About 15cm here and frozen on top. The only things moving are tractors and the odd 4wd. Suspect the hill out of our village is very dodgy. We have still got some leeks in the garden so are defrosting a couple to make leek and potato soup.

Had plans to go Za Za's tonight.. Had to put it hold due to weather.....

 

Hope roads are better tomorrow. Mrs got football tomorrow (villa supporter and kickoff at 3) and i want to go to my Mums.... (20miles away)

Winter is over. 1^st of March was the first day of spring.

 

 

Not yet it isn't. the 1st of March was adopted by the Met Office as an easy division for forecasting. The official first day of spring is March 20th

Snow has completely gone, it's hard to believe we had 3 days of chaos less than a week ago - it's no wonder we struggle with the conditions in this country if we don't even get a chance to get used to them.

I think thats the thing most people forget when they rant about the chaos.

 

This was a what, 1 in 10 - 1 in 20 year event?

 

Most countries struggle with those events. Only here, because the weather is so mild, do we expect to be able to keep going no matter what happens.

Quite scary on the roads. Bowling along happily you turn the corner to half a road left by the drifts.

A week after the main event, I awoke yesterday morning to heavy snow falling and a couple of inches layering the ground. It came totally out of the blue (well, grey) and caught us completely unprepared.

 

Rather than dig my car out and attempt to drive on untreated roads, I decided that I would walk the mile and a half cross-country to school...only to find it closed when I got there. Oh, well. It was a nice walk.

 

I decided to make the most of the time and took Jess out for the day. By midday, the sun was shining and the snow was starting to clear. By 2pm, I was sat outside a pub with a pint like it was an ordinary spring day. Bizarre!

We had a visitor ay home today - Granddaughter's school was closed so her Dad decided to bring her and her brother round for free tea and drinks and entertainment

 

apparently he got an email saying the school would re-open at 12:30 but the kids had to bring their own lunch

 

so they would arrive at 12:30 - have lunch - have play time then go to classes

with teacher who thought they would have a snow day and snded up having to come in

can't see there would have been much teaching going on

 

 

so he decided to come here instead

 

which was good - lots of chasing and tickles happened

Has no one told the weather that it is meant to be spring yet?... Then again, last time we had snow, Great Northern actually ran a relatively decent train service!
