Having read the details for this post, all the design / specification for the academy ICT has already been done. The system will be based around virtual desktops - "This will allow students more scope for innovation, creativity and curiosity in the ways ICT is used" Its a very interesting project ...

LOL, that is exactly my attitude to practically every interesting job i come across atm. But that salary almost makes me want to take leave of my senses and upsticks....even to barnet.

In any case, just because the competition is great there is no need to write off your own chances - get in there and fight! PS it's "creme de la creme" btw

The guy who was supporting the school from the LA had engineered the deal, and got the job. What takes the biscuit was that he then asked me for a how_to do his job!. Forget being good at what you do - get some ar*se sucking lessons (your SMT could probably help).
witch Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Still worth a shot though - if you think you have got the background - tailor your CV to match the job desc (always use the same words they do in the ad), write a great covering letter and go for it!! Even just an interview would be good experience. The money isn't THAT great for living in London though

Certainly compares well with corporate salaries for IT professionals. No doubt you could find even higher amounts in the finance sector but they tend to pay at the top end for most jobs anyway.

timzim Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 The fact that so many people are amazed by the salary offered for this job shows how p*ss-poor the pay is generally for school IT jobs, particularly out of London. We should all, as professionals (or at least highly-skilled workers), be able to command a far better salary than the paltry under-20k we see offered for network manager jobs by so many schools around the country. Makes my blood boil...

My job spec isn't entirely different to this and i've planned and executed the replacement of over 100 desktops and three servers in the past year, including all the infrastructure that goes along with it, as well as day-to-day support. What is interesting is the different values placed on the jobs - i'm on just over a third of the Barnet Academy salary and not in a much more economic place to live. It amazes me that state schools can have such massively differing values for what is in effect the same post, particularly after we've been through some "single status" rubbish that meant we were supposed to get fairer pay (the result of which was that i lost another £500 pa).

You certainly will, by posting here, for which I think I speak on behalf of most members if not everyone, it shows that you realise that we exist and giving us a good chance to apply and for you to get a good member of staff if your chosen one is from us So I'm saying thanks for the post
