We went through our migration today - many teething issues and we still aren't quite there yet (just a few config problems left I think) but all praise for SchoolsBroadband here. I think I've spent about 4 hours on the phone with Sean today, he deserves his weekend!

Also preliminary tests make it seem like our speeds have improved a bit over Lightspeed.

You must have used up all of Sean’s time - that’s why my expected changes haven’t been made yet :(

Still no working iPads

Just lost connection. I assume its to do with the Lightspeed filtering upgrades to V3. Although I don't think its our cluster, it does mention all clusters might be at risk. Hope it's this!

Yeah the connection issues tonight seem to have been caused by the filtering maintenance. I spoke to an engineer 20 minutes ago.

We're in the process of upgrading all filters to v3. When this happens you will lose connectivity until the upgrade is complete.

Everyone should have been notified though as to when your filter is being upgraded via our standard maintenance notifications.

Hi Dave,

As a SchoolsBroadband customer I was not made aware that the filters were being upgraded to v3? Does this mean you are going to be running a Lightspeed filtering system alongside a NetSweeper filtering system? Are you phasing out Lightspeed altogether?

Thanks,

Hi Dave

I was not informed either. Only found out last night by someones else having issues.

Hi guys,

we sent the email through to all of our customers. I wonder if your spam filter false positive it or you were not on the list for some reason. I'll post the upgrade maintenance email on here shortly as the rest are getting done this week.

Thanks

I have to say we had two e-mails regarding Lightspeed upgrades - one at around 5pm on Monday 5th and an update at around 2pm on Wednesday 7th, so there was plenty of communication from our point of view.

@SchoolsBroadband is this all we're supposed to be able to see in NetSweeper? I don't seem to be able to add any allowed or blocked URLs anywhere or modify our staff/pupil/default web filter groups:

You know im fast gaining the belief that im cursed in some way/shape/form, Part of me thinks i should just get a bigger pipe that or pray more :) Anyone else having any issues with TalkTalk Business today for speed or netsweeper speeds???

I suspect you were probably hammering your connection as that's what high latency normally indicates. Time to get a bigger pipe maybe :)

No Talk Talk or Netsweeper issues on our network at all at the moment

No, it looks like the correct permission template has not been applied. Please can you PM me the account you use to login to Netsweeper and I will sort it now.

No Dave not upload we were not, i had the SB support team check the router logs for upload speed... and we could not trace any IP's using that kind of upload in addition only 7mbs were being pushed upload wise on a 100 mb connection. Either way its resolved for now... frustrating.

Sounds very odd indeed. As you can imagine the amount of data we upload on our network is tiny compared to the amount downloaded so that is strange.

It's the high latency which normally indicates the line is being maxed out. If it ever happens again try ping the next hop in a traceroute from your gateway constantly (tracert -t x.x.x.x) and if you've high latency to that then it's either your link being maxed, a carrier network issue or one of our NNI's being maxed (highly unlikely).

Feel free to get me involved if need be.

Get SNMP monitoring setup so you can be sure either way. You can use free products such as Zabbix.

The help desk fixed it very promptly after I told them it still wasn't right, thanks! :)

As far as migrations are concerned I'm pretty pleased with it. Staff came in this morning after I'd flipped them back over to SchoolsBroadband last night and no one has complained about anything breaking. Computers are all proxying correctly and it looks like filter profiles out of the box are pretty good.

I have just received the email stating that our cluster is being upgraded next week. From experience of the previous upgrades what is the probability of connectivity issues after the 22:00 - 06:00 Maintenance Window? Our school is hosting a very important meeting the following morning including members video conferencing in so our service MUST be operational.

We had an issue on Filter11 where we couldn't authenticate when using the proxy... the boxes all had to be re-flashed the following night and there haven't been any issues since. If this happens to you guys remove autodetect from IE to bypass the issue temporarily (searches won't be flagged but it's better than no internet...).

I'd guess as it happened to 11 they know what to check and it won't happen to you guys though!

Correct, the restore process caused some DB corruption, we have added another step in the process where Lightspeed will check our restore file before we apply it to the new box.

Thanks,
