SchoolsBroadband Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 everyone affected should now be back up and working. The faulty hardware has been swopped out and we'll conduct an investigation as to what has happened to it. Sorry for the inconvenience for those who were impacted. Dave

synaesthesia Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Back up here. Been a wonderfully quiet afternoon - every cloud
Edu-IT Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Do those who aren't back need to reboot their equipment?
SchoolsBroadband Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 please reboot your router. If you still have an issue then call the helpdesk or send me a PM. Thanks Dave

Dave Now, unless Dave spilt his coffee on the piece of hardware then there's not much you can do about a failed piece of hardware except swap it out and that's what has happened - in just a few hours! We're not having to wait until tomorrow for a replacement to be couriered out so on this occasion I'd say good going! 1
synaesthesia Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 More than likely a single malt! Think our SLT haven't particularly enjoyed this downtime as it comes after 2 concurrent days of one of our main servers spitting out it's dummy
FN-GM Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 there's not much you can do about a failed piece of hardware I disagree. They should have redundant routers. If one fails the other would pickup the traffic within seconds. 2
synaesthesia Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Well it's safer internet day. Can't do dangerous things on the internet if there isn't internet...
Wubbalubbadub Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 I disagree. They should have redundant routers. If one fails the other would pickup the traffic within seconds. I second this..I’m sorry, but I feel we are now at s point where we just compare the outages against each other! “Well it isn’t as bad as the one last month” The website states 99% uptime does it not? I think the 12 seconds per term is mentioned somewhere! I struggle to believe that a “major ISP” would have a outage like this.. with one hardware failure! 1
synaesthesia Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Well it's a 3 day credit refund for all affected so make sure you get your claims in.
Wubbalubbadub Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Well it's a 3 day credit refund for all affected so make sure you get your claims in. Exciting times!
IrritableTech Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 I disagree. They should have redundant routers. If one fails the other would pickup the traffic within seconds. And there could be - I for one have been in a situation where failover didn’t work when it should have done. You can argue for all the additional kit you like with the benefit of hindsight, but are we all willing to pay for it up front just-in-case? Those who are happy to pay more money do so with other providers who provide less services. The reason for outage will be interesting - and generally I find them honest and willing to learn and improve from previous experience. 1
Edu-IT Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 (edited) Well it's a 3 day credit refund for all affected so make sure you get your claims in. How do we claim? There are people waiting on EduGeek to jump on the back of companies when things go wrong. This is just another opportunity for them to make assumptions about lack of investment/redundancy etc without knowing the true facts. Lets see what the RFO says before slamming the company again without justification? Edited February 6, 2018 by Edu-IT
synaesthesia Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Email [email protected] detailing what you wish to claim for, from memory it's 1 day per hour, making sure you specify the date & time of outage. 1
ChrisC Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 From memory don't the credits come into affect after outages over 5 hours for leased lines?

Not even a fair comparison.. my school budget doesn’t come close to what schools broadband are making.. If you are charging for a service.. then you provide sed service.. Or at least don’t make claims that are just not true! If I had the income they had.. I’m sure I would have failover switches and more nodes for my hyper v environment.. I’ll give it to them , they were hit at notifying people! But the track record speaks for itself.. I have requested an true % of uptime from support so that I can compare this to what we signed up for! 1
