3s-gtech Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Good old Sinclair. Never had one, as I was a C64 fanboy. 1

MrEprise Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I'd throw in a couple from the other thread - Gateway and Tandon. No logos yet but I'll try and add them later if I can work out how! Tandon actually had a couple of guys going by the names of 'Tan' and 'Don' at several computer shows I went to in the 80's. Awful computers! Will this do (for Tandon at least?) I've also got a print ad somewhere which reveals the real reason Tiny were called just that, I'll see if I still have it somewhere. 1

I think we should set a rule that if the brand name is still in use they are not allowed, even if they are a shadow of their former selves. Hey I'm just responding to the thread title *computer brands* graveyard Today's Atari has nothing to do with the Atari that made the ST other than the brand name being sold around for a couple of decades. Amstrad as a computer brand is dead. Fair point in Compaq though, I thought HP had actually dropped the name, didn't realise it was still used on their bottom end kit.
yugo Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I was going to say Packard Bell but I was surprised to see the name is still being used, a division of Acer now according to Wikipedia.
Oaktech Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I haven't seen anything by these guys in a while... I've been using this pitiful excuse for a mousemat as a coaster for the last 10 years!

Oaktech Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 How big is your cup? I can get a half litre of coffee in it, or a can of soup... 1
steveking Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 We had a 486 and P75 made by Escom... I tried a win95 preview on the 486, it couldn't cope. They did all come with OS2/Warp as well as Windows (with PC Dos to save a few quid!) 2

I remember hacking my mates Packard Bell Windows 98 Master Restore CD to upgrade my Windows 95 Packard Bell back in the day!
fathead Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 First PC was from here! Think PC World bought them out before the millenium bug.
unixman_again Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Anyone said prime yet?? Best advert ever. I used to work on Pr1me computers. The ones I used ran Information, a clone of the Pick Operating System. Other machines that I worked ion with the Pick Operating System : WICAT - World Institute for Computer Aided Training. The Wicat is one of the first computers to use a Motorola MC68000 processor. Ultimate Computer - Rebadged Honeywell Level-6s which ran Pick in two different wats, depending on the model. One used the Writable Control Store to translate Reality virtual machine instructions into Level-6 instructions. The second used a dedicated processor board to run the Pick instructions and used the Level-6 processor for I/O. Yep a VM in the 1980s and it probably wasn't the first. McDonnell Douglas Reality - The aircraft manufacturer took over Microdata Corporation, who where (AFAIK) the first company to sell Pick machines. The installation where I worked had another aircraft link - we ran Lear Siegler vdus. Our computer was supplied by AWA - Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia). Pertec Computer - these were Motorolla based machines too. Based in Irvine, CA - the spiritual home of Pick. Olivetti M24 - these were very good clones of the IBM PC. They could be supplied with MS-DOS or DR-DOS, but we bought ours without an o/s direct from Olivetti. We had to specify a particular release of the BIOS to get the three port boards we used to work. Four concurrent users on one PC back in the mid 1980s, and Microsoft still can't manage more that one concurrent user. I wish that I could remember the manufacturer of the board. When I moved into Unix, the most interesting machines were the Motorola Powerstack, which looked like a stereo. http://www.classiccmp.org/hp/PowerStack/stack.jpg They were Power PC boxes.
3s-gtech Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I remember hacking my mates Packard Bell Windows 98 Master Restore CD to upgrade my Windows 95 Packard Bell back in the day! By Hex editing? Did that with an old Windows 2000 install disc too, had the key but no disc so made one that way.
difinity Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) After I had my Vic 20, I had one of these at home. Edited April 11, 2016 by difinity
