mikeprice Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 also applies to cables In case the person who looks after my old school is on here Yes - you might need a parallel port printer cable at some point - which is why I left you a few in a box 2

mikeprice Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 As far as my experience goes the standard is for 'the old guy' to leave and 'the new guy' goes through the store cupboards/room/buildings and chucks loads of stuff out with lots of comments along the lines of "what in the name of $deity did they keep THIS for???" I did try to sell a bunch of old DOS manuals with attached installation floppies when I took over but the paperwork to get authorisation was too much 1

I've already been sent a picture of my "old office" where the newly-appointed IT manager is throwing stuff out...can't wait until he finds out he'll need it all someday! 1

mikeprice Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 It's not a hoard, it's essential maintenance equipment! I wonder what will happen to the double ended non-crossover USB-A cable I left behind No idea if is is useful for anything that has ever been made - bought it because it seemed to be needed but the reasons turned out to be carp I did label it 1
StevieM Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Nice dress, and it’s suitable for all kinds of functions. 3
GrumbleDook Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 It's not a hoard, it's essential maintenance equipment! It is a hoard ... Dragons don't have to have a hoard made of gold ... for some it might be screws, or cables or adaptors. For others it might be books (we all know some librarians who are dragons, don't we?), and for a rare few it might be something special ... seriously rare things that need to be protected and nurtured ... yes, some of us have (or have had) hoards made up of knowledgeable and capable users. Small hoards, usually, but with care and nourishment you can use them to create other such users. Eventually you might end up with a school full of them. Ah ... well ... I can dream! 1
HarryMonkey Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Apparently I have a hoard of unmade Airfix (and such like) kits. I prefer it to be a stash. Put aside for when I retire.

elfdaughter Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Passing any farm that has a sign outside advertising Duck Eggs. My Dad, while ducking: "Where?"
