Their requirements are: Portable, good battery life, fast, good quality, preferably metal body, clicky chiclet keys. Budget £750? What would you recommend? How much do you spend on teacher/head laptops?

Our head is running a sub £300 Fujistu just like the rest of the staff (only difference is the Fujitsu's are now only 3.5 years old compared to some staff who's HP's are 8 years old) but yes they want a Mac Air
pantscat Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Get them whatever they want! I'd recommend either a Macbook (the Air does fall nicely into budget) or perhaps something like a Lenovo X1 Carbon.

gsk Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Thanks All, I've been offered an open-box Dell XPS13 with 4k display, 16gb RAM and 256SSD for £650. 2 things are holding me back from going for it: 1)a 4k display on a 13" screen sounds pretty insane 2)it doesn't have a fingerprint reader, which I would ideally like. Do the very pc thinbooks have fp readers?

Save yourself the headache and just get them a macbook air.Surfaces, Dells and flashy convertables look cool but the head will leave you along for a macbook.

This is an incredible disparity in attitude. Must say I lean more towards @HarryMonkey 's thinking. That £1k difference should be spent on something more important than making the head look flash. 1

How a head can justify spending school funds on an uber device when other staff cant is beyond me. However, The head's pay dictates that they should be very good at their job and they need tools to do that so I think dipping into your pocket when you are paid that much and need tools is justified.
