Binge watched season 1 of Broadchurch yesterday, loving it so far.

 

You must be tougher than me! I don't think my brain could take a whole series in a day, it's brilliant, but heavy going!

 

 

I started Ash Vs Evil Dead this weekend. Brilliant! I had no idea it was a continuation of a kind and just assumed it'd be another terrible remake.

 

Love the fact that it has the feel of the originals still. I love the classic b movie zombie films :)

 

Plus the humour is cracking!

On Saturday night I started watching Black Mirror. The first episode, The National Anthem was perplexing, but ultimately felt empty. I guess it was a stab at humanities morbid curiosity, and how we can find pleasure in someone else's misery, but it felt a bit bland. I didn't really feel like it made much of an impact.

 

The second episode, 15 Million Merits on the other hand.. Ouch. That hit some something fierce. I don't think I've ever watched anything that left me feeling so nihilistic and hollow.

 

Different people seem to have wildly different "favourite" BM eps. I "loved" the 2 you've seen but hated the next one, while other people loved it. (Possibly because I don't use social media). I didn't feel S2 was as strong - I only really appreciated the middle one, though the other 2 were OK. The Xmas special was quite good and haven't watched S3 yet as it's a show I like to savour and Mme LeMarchand would hate it, so it's not easy to find the time.

 

Why oh why do American TV shows get to pick and choose when they put out a show? I've been watching Blindspot season 2 and they had a break from the middle of November until January and then they've taken another break since the 22nd of February until this coming Wednesday. It's so infuriating getting into a weekly show and then waiting over a month for the next one for no apparent reason.

 

Surly it's just encouraging people to binge watch once the season has finished meaning the network lose out on the advertising revenue when it's shown on the telly.

 

It makes no sense to me either! Surely they lose any impetus they build?

It was way worse in the past, look at the weird gaps in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (a Titles & Air Dates Guide) air dates

 

Some of it is production time, takes 8 days to make an episode in general, so if you want audience feedback you're going to have gaps. Rest is the 70 different holidays they have.

 

Next question: why are people watching (old) shows on broadcast tv? Just stream/download them, we don't have to live in olden times any more.

I've started 2 shows in the last week.

 

Killjoys. Liking it. It has a nice mix between Firefly and Bladerunner feel to it. Dystopian but with sass.

 

Iron Fist. Watched a few episodes. Hoping it gets better, as the main character appears to be an idiot so far.

As harrowing as it felt to be, it did deliver a powerful and worthwhile message (which I hear is basically the MO of Black Mirror). If I had to pick a boolean value, Like or Dislike, I'd have to say I liked 15 Million Merits.

After the bleak outlook of the future from Black Mirror, which changed tone of our TV viewing this evening. Season 4, Episode 1 of Bob's Burgers :) I'd forgotten how daft and brilliantly funny this cartoon is :)

I kinda get what you mean. Watched episode 7 last night, it gets better, but not on the scale of Daredevil and Jessica Jones (haven't given Luke Cage a chance yet).

Iron Fist - slow burner , but I liked the pace as it told a better story - the ending was a bit meh IMO... but enjoyed it enough to binge watch... Homeland - slow burner again but starting to get interesting..sticking with it as OH watches it .., Thinking of giving Luke Cage a go...

I have so much TV to catch up on. We never really seemed to watch that much TV but there are quite a few good shows around now and with a new baby we get very little time to relax and watch TV together now so the list is growing quickly.

 

Things recorded on sky plus to watch:

Humans season 2

The 100 (season 3?)

Super Girl (whatever season it is on now)

Marvel Agents of Shield (almost caught up with this again now).

The odd episode of Walking Dead and Flash but we mostly have been watching these within a day. TWD is honestly starting to annoy/bore me now though.

Sure there is something else as well, we have like 2% space left.

Pffft! Amateur! ;)

 

I keep meaning to ask for advice on which shows to dump, but people tend to want you to watch what they loved rather than give objective advice. I just bought a bigger hard disk instead. I figure that if I'm not worked until I drop I won't have any money to do anything when I retire - might as well have some shows to watch.

Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency, the newish one on NetFlix. Mad as, but the phrase "Fully Weaponized Kitten" should be enough for you to give it a go!

 

What? There's some Douglas Adams goodness?

 

Need to watch that, then.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, the only thing it has in common with the stories by Adams, is the name.

I noticed there are some vintage Sky at Night's on iPlayer yesterday and watched a few last night.

Some even date from 1960 and it's quite amazing to see just how far we have come. Even better was seeing such historical figures in astronomy being interviewed on there.

The total lack of knowlege of the solar system back then was great to see. They still talked about life on mars, how some craters on the moon could be volcanos and even referencing early rockets and other big leaps because they just happended recently.

They have episodeds from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Well worth looking at.

along the same sort of line, I've watched a couple of old episodes of Tomorrows World on YouTube that popped up in my recommended feed, it's really interesting how far we've come in such a short amount of time.

Just watched the first couple of episodes of Iron Fist. The trailers didn't do anything for me so didn't bother, but actually not bad, did have to shout "oh you prat, Danny" once or twice at the screen, so got quite involved in it, would have watched more, but only clicked on it in boredom and it was 10pm already, so 2 then bed.
