Rob_D Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Watched the first episode of Interview with a Vampire on BBC2/iPlayer. It's very stylish and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. Also (sticking with the spooky) Uncanny. As a fan of the original podcasts, I'm enjoying the TV adaptation.
mikeprice Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Currently watching Wheel of Time series 2 because we seem to have accidentally ended up with Prime somehow not even sure which one of us did it but the Family link means we both have it I was actually in the middle of binge watching "Spooks" on iplayer which was a bit weird as I had previously binge watched Hustle - and my head did keep wondering why MI5 didn't just ask Ash to fix it. (same actor for those that are unfamiliar with the series - Robert Glenister)

We re-watched the first series before watching the second (as Mrs can never remember plot lines with this much gap between seasons!) and having watched them so closely the second season felt a lot less imaginative in terms of plot. Everything seemed so blindingly obvious as to how it was going to unfold within a very short space of time, whereas with the first I remember (and re-remembered!) wondering what was going to happen in almost every episode. Sure the acting and the production value overall was better, but the whole plot just seemed so ... obvious. Although I'd be interested to know whether this season was more or less like the books, as I'm aware there were some 'fans' who bemoaned the first season for its departure from the original storyline in the books. 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Whilst the series departs from a lot of specific plot points (all three boys are hunting the horn with ingtar and the shienarans, moiraine and lan are hardly in the book at all, Rand meets the Anyrilin in Fal Dara before setting out for the Horn etc) the general theme is the same. All roads lead to Falme. New things. In the books, Lanfear as Selene was a travelling companion for Rand and they got into some multiversal shenanigans. So the whole relationship was new. As is her invulnerability. Rand, Logain and the Asylum never happened either. It's a tricky one as Jordan is still finding his feet in the first two books. A lot of nuance was lost by having the boys in different places, but they were hamstrung by barney harris leaving the show in that respect. A number of what I considered key moments were left on the cutting room floor too. Again in large part becuase the three boys didn't travel together so they had to make room for their individual journeys. But that said, I thoroughly enjoyed the slower pace of this series. Slightly longer episodes gave them almost an extra episode worth of minutes to play with. Something series one sorely needed. 1
LeMarchand Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Finished ONE PIECE on Netflix, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not entirely sure why as I'm fairly sure that I'd find Monkey D. Luffy pretty annoying IRL and the world was a weird 18th century but with neon lights mix. Lots of fun - bring on Season 2!

The ending managed to be both heart-warming and heartbreaking, though it was spoiled by a HUGE exposition dump in the form of a flashback that might have worked had clues to it all been better spread through the season so that it was less "Huh? I didn't see that coming!" and more "Ah! I should have guessed that!". Also, no Adria Arjona.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Our Flag Means Death season 2 - An excellent second season, hampered only by the episode count being reduced to eight from ten. The pirate rom com led by Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi has been on our "eagerly awaiting" list since the first series and it did not disappoint. With a planned 3-season arc, we just need HBO to confirm the final season and I'll be happy The Fall of the House of Usher - Netflix limited horror series from the Haunting of Hill House team. Imaginitive use of Poe's works to create a series which draws inspiration from many fine poems, short stories and his only full novel. A great cast underpin the series which has some truly magnificent moments of television. With an episode and a half to go I'm confident in saying this is a corker of a show and definitely worth a watch. 1

Not as good as the first seasons, but plenty of plots and happenings on dry as well under the sea. Spoiler alert, the Allies won! I actually prefer the subtitles, it seems a bit more real compared to badly dubbed speech.

BKGarry Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 So this weekend I finished off watching "Tales from the TARDIS" and forgot how much I loved Sylvester McCoy's Doctor with Ace as the companion, was really good that one. I also discovered that on iPlayer is a series version of Interview with a Vampire, and while set in the 1900s rather than 1700s, it felt really good to watch and I had to check to see if there was a second season, and there is one being produced, which I am thankful for.

Maybe it was down to it being a "Friday night" show, but struggled to stay awake, which left me wondering what was going on in the fairly decent finale! Also finished Lockwood & Co on Netflix. OK, but skewed a bit young for me and Lockwood was a bit of an insufferable prat. Might have improved had it not been cancelled.

Just finishing apple tv and not currys are giving it away, don't know how they make money. Only keeping it for wild horse season 3

The story follows the lives of the eponymous dog Wilfred, his owner Sarah, and her boyfriend Adam, who sees Wilfred as a man in a dog suit.
