Has it? Looks like its put the tories back in for another 5 years in which time the UKIP bubble may well burst as times get better (cross fingers and all that). Meanwhile Labour have to find a new leader and the LD who have been down before have to re build from the grassroots up. Then there's the question of a backlash in scotland if the SNP appear toothless due to a tory majority.

New labour was an election winning formulae, I don't understand why Ed went to the Left and threw it all away...

 

I'd love to say the reason was values - but if it were then this manifesto wouldn't've been so poor. He almost fence-sat through the entire election. Popular policies such as re-nationalising the railways and rolling back NHS privatisation were fudged around with very soft answers. So, I don't know either.

I'm 40 and I didn't vote. Labor got in here with 52.9% of the vote (area lamppost could get voted labor around here) I would of voted for someone else but what's the point, my vote would of counted for nothing.

I consider myself to be British and European. This result leaves the Union at risk with SNP taking over Scotland and Europe at risk with such a sharp rise in popularity for anti-EU parties.

Interesting question: What kind of position does this leave Cameron in? Is he actually weaker than before, more open to blackmail and arm twisting and blackmail from his backbenchers, the Eurosceptics and 1922 Committee? At least in coalition he had the Lib Dems to rely on for European matters.

Like @localzuk , I'd like to hope that it was supposed to be a return to what the party originally stood for.

 

I don't get it.. You get a shot at PM and if you don't get it, you're out? That doesn't really strike me as a party behind their leader? Strikes me more as a "We'll throw everyone at the wall one-by-one and see who sticks."

I've voted labour 2 out of the 4 elections I've been eligible for voting in. When ever i saw Ed in PMQT i thought no way can i vote labour with him leading, he is so weak.

That second graph looks a tonne fairer to me.. I also reckon that the (almost) two-party system we have would break down significantly if people could see their votes actually leading to parliamentary seats.

It is broken for sure, but there is NO way the nasty party will change it; and I doubt Labour would either if they were on a winning streak.

Some may argue, given the results, she's been given a fresh mandate by the people of Scotland. Anyway, pundits on the Beeb have suggested she doesn't want a re-run in the next 5 years anyway. Devo-Max is the thing now. There's some talk about turning the UK into a Federated state (good idea in my books), but reports suggest that's a step too far for Cameron.

 

Now, with the clear rise in UKIP (they got 2nd in a lot of places), anyone want to place bets on the 2017 EU referendum?

Well Tories will now complete boundary changes from 650 MPs to 600, you can bet it is changed to their advantage!
