Starting to think I should take out a loan and make my own party based around election reform.

I've had several people say "ah, but PR would let UKIP in!" to me today, and it has made me think - it underlines that people don't really understand the different options.

 

If we had PR, UKIP would have, what, 12% of the seats? That would not mean they had any power. A government would still form from a coalition of the largest party and whoever it pairs up with. Not many parties would be willing to pair up with UKIP, so the situation would be unchanged there. However, those 12% of the population would actually have representation in parliament!

I cannot fathom how this has happened. Even if Labour had held all its traditional Scottish seats, they'd still have been nowhere near.

The sad truth is Labour voted in the wrong miliband. This coupled with sheeple unable to get their head around the fact their are voting for a party and its policies and not a popularity contest between the two leaders. Its depressing stuff.

 

At least Mr Balls losing his seat is a good thing, at least replacing milliband with balls in not an option as I think the sheeple would never get over such a move.

 

 

I totally agree with the above statement. I think David would have been a much much better choice. He was far more charismatic and a better speaker and had alot of flair. As it turns out Labour will need to look for another leader soon.

The SNP were only fielding candidates in 59 seats, perhaps you should normalise the data and show the ratio of the votes they got to the votes they were competing for (SNP - 50%), UKIP came nowhere close to that.

They do not ask people at 'random'. It was an amazing piece of modelling given that a small error on marginal seats would give a large error in the prediction.

Thing is - protest votes (certainly under the current status quo) don't work. It's like not being able to decide whether to have Coca Cola or Pepsi, and instead choosing to drink your own urine.

Didn't you? I realised that was going to happen a while ago. In fact, this election has gone as expected.

The Tories have won and the lies about labour collapsing the whole world economy and the stacks against miliband by the Tory faithful has paid off. Congratulation on the great deception and another 5 years of Tory misery.

 

 

I don't know a lot about David, but I suspect you may be right, Miliband just doesn't seem PM material..

Just watching him on PMQ's the last few months has shown that he isn't as strong or confident as Cameron

 

At least Ed took part in the TV debates.

 

Horrible results so far. Think I may take up alcoholism.

 

Things to look forward to:

 

1. EU referendum

2. Scotland pushing for another independence referendum

3. An attempt to get rid of the hunting ban

4. More cuts and attacks on the poor and disabled

5. More wealth going straight into the pockets of the rich

6. More privatisation of the NHS

Personally I think the SNP story is a bit of a sideshow this election - well done to them by the way. They were never a real issue for Labour. The real story of this election is the Liberal Democrats!

 

It's interesting, for 5 years they've been boo'd for getting in bed with the Tories and what happens at the election - their voters switch to Tory en mass. You would have thought they would be more ideologically aligned to Labour.

 

I can't understand that either.

 

All of this still makes me hate the FPTP system. SNP got 1.4m votes and get 54 seats. Greens get 1 million votes and get 1 seat... Or Lib Dem's get 2.1m votes and get 8 seats. Entirely undemocratic and unfair.

 

On the other hand, with PR we'd have a lot of UKIP MPs.

 

Everyone seems horrified that it looks like Conservative will get a majority. Everyone I've seen, everything I've read online. So who on earth did all that voting for them? Or perhaps it's just the company I keep only shows a particular view.

 

I don't know anyone who would admit to voting for Boris as Mayor, and yet... There's a pattern developing...

 

I know Jeez we've got TTIP to look forward to now.

I think the more important question is what does last night mean for us? I doubt (fingers double-crossed) we'll see Gove back in Education, but what can we expect. Those of us not already in MAT's might be getting a little paranoid about the future.
