crispybits Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Only the first coupla times - after that it can be quite amusing identifying the different species in there (the grunters, the hoarders, the show offs, etc etc) Edit - or just go in and grab the weights you need and take them to somewhere else to use them (just make sure you take them back...)
Patrick Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 I have the possibility of a fight in April. Need to decide this weekend if it's enough time to get fight ready. I'm well off weight right now
eyetea Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Going back to the possibility of having a PT for a couple of sessions to create a routine and such, I guess they'd be able to show me what weight exercises are good, and how to do them properly? Think that would give me a little more confidence!
crispybits Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Yeah definitely - get someone trained to give you a routine, just remember to have enough flexibility so it's not the same workout every time. Also, I perhaps over-did my last point about free weights. The way I was actually taught by a PT to structure my gym sessions a few years back was warm up - free weights - machine weights (to target problem areas when the muscles are getting a little tired and good form is too difficult to maintain) - cardio - warm down. But I sat down wit him and made 4 different workout plans which I alternated between so I didn't get bored or stuck in a rut with it.

Yes - he or she will get you to do the exercises so that they can see if there are any problems - such as a weak muscle somewhere, and give you strategies to combat these as well as showing you how to do the exercises properly
Joanne Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I've been drinking Huel instead of my normal not-so-healthy breakfasts. I definitely feel healthier, much more energy during the day! now I just need to start going back to the gym.. @Arreks I'm looking at getting some Huel... was it any good? Don't want to spend £50 for nothing! Planning on using it for breakfast and maybe lunch.
Arreks Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 @Arreks I'm looking at getting some Huel... was it any good? Don't want to spend £50 for nothing! Planning on using it for breakfast and maybe lunch. I'd certainly look around for a discount code or some kinda offer I still use it every other day, vanilla flavoured then I sometimes add a lil bit extra like pure cacao or cinnamon. The shaker they gave me isn't good enough and it's prone to getting lumpy anyway so I always put it through my nutribullet. You can get taster packs I believe for cheapz so maybe try that first? a lot of people don't like Huel.
kennysarmy Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 For as many years as I can care to remember my food intake during a working day consisted of a bag of crisps and a chocolate bar around 11/11.20 and then a pastie at lunchtime with a piece of fruit. I decided this year I need to change my bad habits somewhat.... I no longer bring crisps or a chocolate bar to work with me! I still have a snack at 11, but it's a cereal bar. For lunch this week I've had 3-4 pieces of fruit plus either, Monday a chicken pasta dish from Sainsburies, Tuesday - cheese roll made at home in the morning, Wednesday - left over chilli from the night before reheated in the microwave in my office and today I have some soup. On days when I don't go football training (Wednesday and Fridays) or have a Sunday (vets) match I do between 10 & 25k on a cheapo exercise bike I've purchased. I'm 46 years old, 6 feet 1 and probably not considered over-weight, I don't drink or smoke but I am hoping these few subtle changes might just make me feel more healthy....as long as I can keep it going.... I've now lost over a stone and have had to put a couple of extra holes in my belts! Weight now down to 12 st 7 (from almost 14 st)

I've read on a blog that the nutribullet came in handy to blend it.
MrMat Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Thanks I'll have a look. I can pretty much drink anything. Once drank a pint of olive oil! Hah! I've read on a blog that the nutribullet came in handy to blend it. HUEL!!! I'm having Huel with my diet, it's great. Taste is a bit off but the macronutrients are spot on so it's worth it. I got some some dirt cheap (bulkpowders.co.uk) basic chocolate Whey Protein. Three scoops Huel, one scoops Whey - tastes pretty good. Have this two times a day along with my usual diet of 3 proper meals and snacks just to add additional calories/macros etc. £50 is a lot but combine it with something else and you can stretch it out a little bit. Been using it since Christmas and my weight has gone up (yay!), weighing in at 101KG these days. Bit porky around the edges but strength has shot up too so pretty happy
Joanne Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I've also ordered a strawberry flavouring with it. I'm hoping to lose weight rather than gain. I'm eating too much sugar!! I figure Huel for Breakfast, lunch and then a healthy tea, meat and veg should suffice. Then snacks like nakd bars when I'm hungry... although that's sugar... but at least natural sugar... blah!
eyetea Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 View of Crib Y Ddysgl from the top of the Pyg Track on Snowdon and me topping out on Y Garn - Legs still aching from a brill weekend! Not pictured was the not so healthy sausage roll and can of coke at the top!

Weight now down to 12 st 7 (from almost 14 st) Now down to 12 st 5 and I'm exercising every day, either golf, football or a 15k session on the exercise bike followed by currently 30 sit-ups, which I'm hoping to build up to 50 and then start on some press up! 1
unixman_again Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 A week now at the new gym. It's OK but I do miss training with the body builders in the cramped industrial unit. Sadly, I had to change. Every so often, they decide to forgo with the cleaning. Usually a quick word and it's all good, but this time to no avail, even after a month. The change rooms smell like something had died in there, so after 10 years or so I've moved to a posh gym in a hotel. Good points - it's clean and they've got a functional rig, which is great for chinups/pullups. It's better than the bar on the squat rack at the old place in that I don't have to fit my pullups between someone doing squats. Bad points - it's full of hipsters, they could do with at least one more Smith Machine and far too much sit around playing with mobile phones. Yesterday, there was a bloke on the Smith Machine for ages, fiddling with his phone between sets. "I'll only be another 10 minutes", he said, to which I replied, "I'll be five minutes to do my four full sets" and off I went. The look on his face was priceless.
Popular Post bossman Posted April 12, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 12, 2016 Down from 17st 12lbs to 15st 6lbs from New Year, no dieting just healthy eating and cutting crap out oh! and between 6 - 10 exercise classes per week........ 3s-gtech Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Just don't burn out, and prepare some alternative ideas in case you get any isolated weaknesses or injuries. That's a lot of classes in a week!

Yeah realise this from what other people are saying, did have a shoulder injury but having rested for a week from anything which would involve shoulder strain movements it seem to be nearly there now and I can actually train with it. I can feel the energy flowing through me plus I have an eating strategy for before and after training which seems to be working very well indeed, I have been testing some of the and following his FB page for inspiration, starting slowly and will build up over the next year all being well..........watch this space..............it just shows that being of a mature age makes no difference as long as your mindset is right!! #FrankMedrano Well done everyone else and keep the faith!!
ZeroHour Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I am trying out Huel to help control the intake and I have to say I quite like it, the Mocha flavour goes well with the vanilla. 1

Patrick Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 After training hard doing my strength conditioning, lots of pad work and sparring in MMA and jujitsi and swimming most mornings, my fight has fallen through. Got one lined up for maybe summer hols so that could work out better really. May as well just keep myself fight ready but not cutting.
Joanne Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I've got my second order of Huel. I actually missed it while I was on holiday. Eating normal food made me feel like crap. Pretty sure my intolerance is lactose. In the morning I would have wholemeal bread and scrambled eggs, but almost certain they put milk and butter in with the eggs! D'oh. Anything else wouldn't have filled me up. Live and learn 1

You don't need spread on the toast either as the yolk moistens the toast
