I think 99.999% of the expanded universe can be complete discounted. They've already said it's not cannon, freeing them to go in any direction they see fit. A bit of a shame because I always thought the original Thrawn trilogy would have been perfect for Episodes VII-IX

 

The original Thrawn trilogy would have been perfect, we're a little too far beyond it in the timeline, but they could rejig that easily.

 

Personally I'd just be happy if they kept the names, Jacen, Jaina & Anakin are how I know the Solo kids, I don't want to have to learn any more names

 

Would also like to see Mara Jade in there as there's plenty of story they could borrow. Plus, Imagine if the Sith in the trailer were Kyp Durron, we'd get to see him wipe Carida out, which would be a brilliant thing to see on the big screen.

 

Whatever they do will be pretty awesome though, I'm sure.

The trial seems ok the shoot of it following the millennium falcon made my head feel weird. New lightsaber looked cool (shame it was shown this soon)

If it is Luke, and I suspect it is, protecting his forearm is a good idea considering his dad did a good job on one of them in The Empire Strikes Back.

Chief problem with that saber is that you'll be able to slice those hand guard blades off if you cut close enoughg to the hilt. I'd be more impressed if there was less of a gap.

 

It does look awesome IMO however.

On the other hand, if the guard was close enough to prevent it being cut, it'd probably break the handle...

I think the point is "looks cool!"

 

I'd prefer to see someone going at it properly with dual sabers instead, Exar Kun style, though I seem to recall that Anakin may have picked another lighsaber up at some point in the prequels. My memories of those films are hazy from never rewatching after the cinema, though...

Looks original to swords. Certainly is down to own style and in all honesty you're not going to see a point in it till the film comes out. Darth Maul had the same comment thrown at his one and we all know why he had that dual sabre.

 

The new guy has a perfect quote (taken from IGN).

 

“To whom it may concern… Get used to it. :)"

 

Boyega (although his response isn't about the light sabre).
