OK OK OK... I've changed my mind. I'd get a pilots license, buy a small plane and fly around the world. Especially visiting places which are little islands in the middle of nowhere and maybe one day randomly landing in the middle of the sahara, just for teh lulz.

For just a million, I'd certainly keep working. I'd outright buy a house and car, put £100k in each of the kids' trust fund and buy a second house to let out. The rest would be saved/invested.

Exactly this, though without kids I'd invest in other ways.

Then I'd buy an R32 GT-R, just because.

Traveling seems a nice idea, would like to visit other parts of the world, interested in History so would probs start with Germany, Poland, Former SSR countries and then visit USA!

I’d buy a new bigger house, buy a couple of cheap houses and rent them out where I live (Burnley). Quit my job and open up a nice little computer repair shop/internet café to keep me ticking over and a little extra income. Bank the left over and see how it goes I guess…

£80k properties returning £500pm? That's some slum landlord plan! Here, £80k would get you a 1 bed bedsit worth about £350pm max.

The market pays what the market pays. My 2 bed flat was bought for 80k had a new kitchen and bathroom put in and I could get about £600pcm, the 1 beds in the same complex go for about £62k and £450pcm. It's a nice complex too and has some of the largest grounds in Cheshire.

Buy a house, nothing massive, and a new car each for me and my girlfriend, or maybe even become a one car family !! Given our ages we could probably both afford to take early retirement and enjoy life without the stresses of work.

If I take off my sensible hat for a moment, I would blow the lot on following the F1 paddock around, stay in the best hotels, spend time in the garages, that sort of thing.

Am liking your thinking @nephilim :)

I would buy something up in the highlands near the coast. Also have a smallholding and grow my own stuff. Definitely have a road trip in the US probably Nevada and the areas round there. Oh oh oh a trip to Cuba too :) Set my sons up with a few bob. Buy first class tickets every time am off to Texas to see my boys. Boring to some perhaps but not to me tis my dream after all.

1 Million not enough, but I won't be putting up with a 2 hour public transport journey each way to work that's for certain.

Buy some property, a semi decent car but not new and carry on working. A decent holidays maybe on a private jet.

It def won't be sitting in a bank.

Hmm... Just discussing housing with my colleague here. So, I've decided I'd use that money as seed money to invest and make a much larger amount so I could disrupt the housing market in this area. Muahaha!

£1M would require careful planning to maximize its benefits, Doctor Evil. It would be bigger house with "mad old fogey" attachment for parents and a few luxuries, but it wouldn't be a given that I could stop working.

£5M would comfortably set Mme LeMarchand and I up for life (house as above but without compromises + give up work) with some over for fripperies.

£10M would allow us to try to do some good. We both like the idea of renovating properties for low-cost rentals.

Buy a flat in Central London, maybe Docklands. Sell the car, commute to work for a bit of top-up. Maybe use spares to launch investments in stocks. :)

Sad reality, the flat would probably wipe most of it out!

Even sadder reality: I am now so old I post something sensible instead of "Sports car, horse, airplane, rocket ship...."

similar to others. Buy a decent house for say £250k, then a few properties at £100k-ish to rent out. Then get a few buy to let mortgages and keep working! Renegotiate holiday allowance at work and do some amazing holidays!

I'm 26 and would invest in property, what does that say!

£1m isnt much? ooook lol

I would buy 5/6 £80k properties

Down here that is just about enough for a deposit! 4 bed terrace on an OK estate cost me £250k, we fit as a family, but just. We can afford it, just.

If I won, I'd buy something a bit bigger, with a bit of space around it. Let the current house. Probably work for a while, but only long enough to set myself up with something else to do. Maybe go to Uni and read something interesting rather than useful. Maybe my own business (no clue what though). But I couldn't just stop.

Maybe I could become a full time :troll:

The housing market is just shocking! My current house is a 4 bed semi in one of the best areas around here and as a cash buyer I got in way under £200k. I might move to Scotland, I could buy a castle for 50p and a curly wurly!

I think I'd get a few things ticket off my bucket list first and foremost :-) Attending all 4 of the golfing majors for example, playing at some of the more exclusive clubs around the world. I'd buy my dream car, VW Beetle, and have my VW camper done up to show condition. I would have to do some more sensible things though, pay off the mortgage for example, sort my parents out (or at least put a dent in their debt)...would certainly keep working.

Around here it wouldn't go that far either! Not enough to quit work I think!

I'd buy a 3 bed detached house and have it all done up nicely (Best part of a 6th of that gone easily around here :( ) treat myself to a car a bit nicer than a £200 Ford Fiesta with dodgy handles, and one for the Mrs!!! A nice holiday for me and the Mrs and then probably invest in a 2 bed house / flat to rent out! Anything left over goes into the bank!

Adjusted for inflation, what's the equivalent to be the Six Million Dollar Man in modern times? And get a million quid's worth? 'Cause I'd be that.
