I think a lot of schools jumped on 10 purely because they skipped 8 and 8.1, so were pretty keen to move on. Personally I'm keen to move to 11 to maintain parity with home use but it'll be next year at the earliest, and even then it'll be challenging due to hardware compatibility.

To be clear, Windows 11 ADMX files are backwards compatible with Windows 10/8.1/8/7 etc. There's only 9 policies which are specific to Windows 10 which aren't in the Windows 11 ADMX, so I suspect most people can upgrade without any issues. Obviously not ideal and a terrible decision, but to me it seems pretty unlikely that we'll actually need to do this during a transition period.

Now it's official and coming out this year(!) I think we could do with a forum being set up so we can share resources as we did for Windows 10.

ServiceNow are their new helpdesk provider, they've been merging all of their separate ones (26 in all I believe) into one mega helpdesk.

You can do this with a Query, they're quite easy to build and you can copy/paste the data out in to excel if you need to. Yes sorry, it is best to use the switch. Though you can still use both DesktopApplicationID and DesktopApplicationLinkPath it is best to use DesktopApplicationID going forward.

Have you tried layout the start menu how you want it and then extracting it with powershell? Export-StartLayout –path .xml -UseDesktopApplicationID If nothing else you can check things like Column/Row settings and should be able to get the correct width.

What can I say, I've never had an issue with the Start Menu, the powershell script is a run once task and is no inconvenience at all, apart from that minor thing Windows 10 Education "just works" for me too. To each their own obviously.

This has never happened to me and we've been using Windows 10 Education since release, it's literally not a thing that happens. To suggest that you have to use LTSB to get a trouble free environment is nonsense, our Windows installation is the last thing I have to worry about - it's completely stable.

Education here, removing the junk is as simple as running a powershell script against the wim before setting it up for deployment, takes no effort whatsoever.

Personally we run Education and Office 365 ProPlus so this isn't an issue. For those of you running LTSB/LTSC could you not just run Office 2019 instead?

A lot of people already know this one I'm sure. WinKey+Shift+S opens the snipping overlay with rectangle select, when you make your selection it disappears and you have your snip on the clipboard. It can save a great deal of time and is a good one to pass on to teaching staff. Oh sorry just to add this works from W10 1703 onwards I believe.

All in house, as above budget is a key factor.

The type of line has nothing to do with it, I use TV at work to remote to my home PC without issue. The only time TV has ever complained is when I've used it on a server os.

I removed the deferral settings we had in place by mistake and that solved the problem for us within an hour, I would block the domains in the mean time if I were you.

We've not had much luck to be honest, Microsoft bounced it back to our supplied and initially said they couldn't help at all with the license, after a long period of back and forth it's now back with Microsoft, but not made a lot of progress.

The key to Twitter initially is not what you post, but how often you post. Consistency is the key, trying to get people to understand this is a pain. Aim for a minimum of 1 post per day which sounds easy but when you're just moving into social media, trying to get leadership to find things to tweet about can be hard. Also don't worry about engagement until you've got a reasonable number of followers, gaining followers should be your main focus.

Some that I've configured by default: Mainly these are aimed at speeding up the login process and tidying up the login experience.

Have you considered setting up a separate user account for each year group and have that be the print release for the student accounts? You could return the staff accounts to being standard ones. That way they only login to print student work when they actually want to print something specific, so should encourage them away from print all.

In our case the Print All button is there, but only prints what the logged on user has queued, not everything. I guess it depends on how you have the rest of papercut configured.
