Both good. Both very good. The reveal in Oldboy is just horrific. Don't bother with Lady Vengeance, though; it's not a patch on Mr Vengeance. Good to see some World Cinema offerings on this thread. I might start posting more of my own recent watches.

fiza Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Watched Big Trouble In Little China at the weekend. I probably don't need to explain the film to anyone. I'd never seen it before, although, obviously I had heard of it. It might beat Mannequin as the most 80s film I've ever watched. Unfortunately nowhere near as good as mannequin. I couldn't take those guys wearing baskets on their head seriously (even in the context of the general ridiculousness of the film) - that said it is still better than quite a lot of the more recent stuff I've watched over the last few years. You should watch Golden Child if you haven't seen it. Similar vain to BTILC.
phreak Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) I watched iBoy and I have to say while I did watch the whole thing it was a bit silly. Someone who has a computer part in their brain which allows them to control technology would not get a "Hacking %" bar come up while they are trying to hack into a phone. Plus, it looked as though he was using an android phone. So would that make him vulnerable to attack too? Apart from the last movie I watched was Dr Strange. Not bad. Could have done better though in places. As a lover of the comic books I am looking forward to the whole Infinity Gem saga. Edited February 3, 2017 by phreak

Plot holes you can drive a bus through, of course, but reasonably entertaining. Not a patch on the first two though 1
dry Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 T2 trainspotting Fantastic. Highly recommended. Hadn't watched the first film (I know, I know!) but didn't feel alienated at all as the sequel was easy to follow and I could fill the gaps in. Watched the original at home today and I can see why it is loved so much. Both the original and the sequel are in my top 10 favourite films now! Our local cinema is a Showcase Cinema De Lux so has reclining leather seats, air con, bar etc 'as standard'. Definitely makes a difference!

DalekSec Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 T2: Trainspotting FINALLY got around to watching it when all my mates were free, Trainspotting (1) is one of my favorite films and i was not disappointed by the sequel. Not as dark as the first one (Which is probably a good thing) and Begbie is still a maniac! If anyone has seen Trainspotting then watching T2 is a must!

It felt like the protagonist spent a couple of weeks in training/the stockade and then got shipped out to the eponymous ridge, performing the acts of heroism for which is is justifiably lauded the first day with victory being achieved the next. Apart from the high levels of blood and guts and otherwise traditional film, but well worth a look.

Not sure it's worth quite as many Oscars as it's been nominated for, but Ryan Gosling's piano playing is amazing considering he learned for the role. Saw a trailer for Hidden Figures and that looks like it might be worth seeing "The incredible untold story of Katherine G. She would be very grumpy with you Bowie as Jareth was her very first love, way back when she was four! Even now I'm having to organise a labyrinth-style ball for her 30th!

I know you're supposed to suspend disbelief but do filmmakers really think hundreds of terrorists would be able to congregate in London, with heavy weapons? Do they really think the French President would sit alone on a small speed boat? Bleh.

I also felt that targetting the wedding to the degree it was at the beginning was overkill and gave a smidgen of justification to later actions by the bad guys.
