One drive failure, one VMware server that was on a PSOD and appears to have corrupt vmware install (probably the usb pen it's on gone corrupt) luckily HA did its job though.

Only came in to setup the PCs in two offices, looks like i'll be here a little longer than expected. Anyone else having an interesting first day back?

Plugged all computers in I could get to and allowed the Sims update to propagate.. which it seems to have quite nicely.

Trying to stop eating all the left over chocs.

Famous last words

Trying to stop eating all the left over chocs.

Just as well... you'll need those for stress management when you find out what Sims really did ;)

My Darth Vader and Binary clocks didn't go off this morning - so I wake up at 8:38, launch myself into the car while getting dressed, and make the trip into Manchester for work in 25 mins instead of 40 mins - looks like Darth only works for 2 minutes before turning itself off, and the binary clock *may* have been set wrong.

Luckily my day ended up being a nice warmup to monday (off again tomorrow :p) started at 9:30, went home at just gone 2 :D

Why can't work be like that every day!?! Ideally including no students or teachers.

Two words: password resets.

Have you seen the edugeek project:

Self Service Password Reset

Our staff can reset student passwords and students / staff if they wanted could even reset their own.

Not going back in till Monday, will have to test one of our fibre links out as a tree fell on it over Xmas. Luckily there was enough excess in the loft space. Its working fine according to the switch. Fortunately as of last summer its no longer our only link to that side of the site.

Came in so early today I don't even think the site manager knows I am here. Been the one turning the lights on. :D

I came in yesterday finding out a power cut had happened over the hols, all the servers and everything were off after huge uptimes - all the raid arrays had to be repaired etc. took a while to get everything to play ball.

Monday will be fun for me, I reimaged every PC after pre warning everyone that I was going to, wiped the lot!

No surprises here! Remoted in the night before to check network monitoring, all was gooooooood :)

Time to get the new WebDAV service finished today ready for Mondays grand launch.

Came in to do a SIMs update yesterday and an INTouch update, as a result Intouch has broke.... couldn't get it fixed due to site wide power shutdown.

Today while getting all staff PCs on ready for the SIMs update I have found 3 PCs needing rebuilding, 2 no power and a water leak. And I am only 1/5 done...

I'm installing new switches and fibre modules - no teaching staff, just cleaners and site manager so very quiet. Ahh, the peace!

Teachers back on Monday, kids back on Tuesday. :(

Not back until Monday but popped in yesterday to press the on button on the web server that turned of with a power cut.

Nothing too serious that I know of at the minute.

Not in till Monday, but had a DC go pear shaped (just a restart sorted it, thank goodness for multiple DCs though!) Then it's install a brand new Smoothie, and build some profiles for it (while, you know, learning how to use it from scratch). Then it all begins...

Over these last 2 days I have done the following:

-Broken the SSO link between myschool and Fronter so users can log directly into fronter

-requested certificate to install on new moodle server

-updated the school timetable and pushed it into sims

-removed the 7 old HP MFPs ready to be collected now we have a nice KCS/Ricoh managed contract with better MFDs and newer safecom

-run SIMS update in SOLUS 2. Updated intouch and discover

-made sure the guys got all the reconditioned lenovos put in trolleys

-looked into what laptop models are doing well this year ready for the yearly 170 laptops purchase for the new year 9

-did some last minute large format printing for display boards (best investment ever we did was the £3k hp large format printer for that)

Now resting ready for Monday :-)
