Yep, Learnpads here as well. The ability to manage them from a webpage is fantastic. I also love being able to configure them using QR codes. The latest models with wireless charging are proving much more successful than our first batch. We only have about half of those working due to ham fisted eejits breaking the USB sockets by forcing the cable in upside down!

Well we are a primary with 366 pupils and 8Mb internet grrrr. If we had an extra 34 pupils we would qualify for 20 though...anybody got any pupils we can have? On second thoughts forget that request as I know what sort of pupils we will end up with 😀

Hi All, I am attempting to install Stykx on all the computers here at an infants school and it is proving to be a right bar steward... I found this thread which has a link to an MSI but the link seems to have expired. Does anybody here have a copy of a working Stykx MSI? Ta muchly

Ok so after seeing the preview I am relieved to see that they are using stop motion and I think they have made a good job of it. I am having the same issue here. We have i5s with windows 8.1 64bit and I was considering downgrading to windows 7 so now I don't think I will bother 😀 After the holidays I am going to dig a bit further to look for a fix.

Can you explain what you mean by "doesn't work"? What goes wrong?

I have some new laptops here running Windows 8.1 and rather that wipe them and install Windows 7 I thought I would try running with the existing OS. But...although I seem to have got everything working reasonably well, there is still an issue with the screen saver or something else that keeps blanking the screen after about 5 minutes! I have changed all the settings I can find and still the display times out...has anybody here had or solved this problem? I have run out of places to look for the mystery 5 minute setting so any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated

I work in a junior school in Hampshire and most of us have been using SIMS.net hosted by our LEA using a citrix client. We have probably been running like this for about 5 year maybe more. Since the switch I haven't had to worry about backups or applying updates at all...bliss! 😁 Like a lot of primary schools we only have a few users and the teachers never touch it.

After a meal as I pick up the plates my wife often says "the dishwasher is filling up" and I just have to reply "I didn't know it is so emotional" And at school if a pupil asks if they can go to the toilet I reply "yes but not here!" And when my kids were small and they asked to get down from the table I would ask why they were on it in the first place. In my defence I must say I got most of my Dad jokes from my Dad and growing up in the 70s watching the likes of Tommy Cooper.

You don't know you're born you lot...an office pah! I get a bench in the corner of the library...and I am grateful for it... Mind you at the last place there were fourteen of us all huddled together...etc etc 😊

I have been a Chrome users for some time now and it is still my favourite browser. I have just discovered a feature by accident which I think is pretty neat. While looking at a page I accidentally clicked the mouse wheel button on a link and the link opened in a new tab! I realise I am now going to be deluged with "have you only just found that!" replies but I don't care, I am just glad I found it

Try isEmpty or isBlank on the date field instead of isNull

I have been putting in UniFi APs for the last few months. So far they are a great success. The main things to consider IMHO are: 1. Do you have spare sockets to power the APs? 2. Do you have spare network sockets to connect them? 3. How are you going to use the WiFi? Point 1 can be solved with more sockets or better with an upgrade of your network switches to POE. Point 2 will need more sockets installed if you do not have spares however you power them. As to point 3 you need to consider what devices will be used on the wifi. I am only connecting 30 to 40 Learnpad tablets plus a few laptops. The tablets are moved around in the trolley and the APs I have installed are supplemented by taking one more with the trolley to be plugged into a socket in the classroom. As our school is a 50s build and my budget is also tight I have faced the same dilemma as you ☺ I also had to explain to various people who were pushing for WiFi that you need wires to install wireless! Hope my ramblings help.

Working with teachers younger than my sons makes me feel old every day! Seriously though, I would have reacted the same if I was shown a wax cylinder at their age ☺

And this warning come from Microsoft who really want people to buy their latest OS to which end a scare story will help... Hmmm I notice MS don't point out that users can avoid the problem by not using IE, an application that nobody I know has used for years. Oh and before anybody says it, I am not suggesting users shouldn't upgrade, just that they shouldn't be frightened into doing it. To paraphrase Michael Moore, "Welcome to the world of....BOOOO!"

The only advice I have had was to avoid handling them as contact with human skin is not good for them. I have also read that they can carry salmonella so if I am showing them to kids at school I wear gloves and handle them as little as possible. Is there a pond or stream nearby as there will probably be more of them in there and they are very relaxing to watch.

Anything like these? These are from our pond last year.

The smooth newts in our school pond have very bright yellow/orange bellies with black spots. They are particularly brightly coloured around now as they are attracting mates.

Only the Great Crested Newt is fully protected in the UK. The Smooth and Palmate are only protected with regard to trading in them.

We have these and the management side is fantastic...yesterday I deployed a new web shortcut to all 34 of our tablets in a matter of minutes straight from their website.

Well at least it is solid state! No moving parts to bash together...

My wife ordered some Xmas presents and they were delivered by Yodel...when I say delivered I actually mean thrown over our side gate to lie there in the rain until she got home! One book had minor water damage and a CD case was cracked but as that was for me she wasn't bothered...

Thanks for the info folks. Looks like they may be a bit over the top for our junior school. Especially if noise is an issue! We are also a bit short on power and network points as this is predominantly an old building so 5 sockets would be a PITA. At present it looks like we will be going with either Sharp or Ricoh.
